(Is 35:5) Psalm: Praise the Lord, my soul! (Ps 146) Second Reading: Did not God choose those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that he promised to those who love him? (Jas 2:5) Gospel: Then he looked up to heaven and groaned, and said to him, "Ephphatha!"-that is, "Be opened!" And immediately the man's ears were opened. (Mk 7:34-35a) Inspiration of the Week We often associate the word "healing" with something that produces dramatic, physical results: the blind see, the crippled walk, and the deaf hear. Witnessing such miraculous events is few and far between for most. Healing happens more frequently in very ordinary ways using very ordinary means. And we can all be God's instruments for bringing it about. Kindness, love, mercy, and compassion can go a very long way. Treating people with kindness? being inclusive and welcoming of the poor, the weak, and the powerless? listening to another's story and pain? offering compassion and love to those who have wronged us? avoiding hurtful criticisms and watching our tongues. All can go a long way to changing and healing human hearts. There is power in love and kindness. Does this power not speak of someone greater than ourselves working in and through us? WORDS TO INSPIRE THE FAITHFUL Heaven knows we need never be ashamed of our tears. --Charles Dickens

Wednesday: 1 Cor 7:25-31/Ps 45:11-12, 14-15, [11]/ Lk 6:20-26 Above all, be ready for Christ s coming, for he is the Lord. Blest are those who will inherit the kingdom. Grandparents Day is celebrated by many Americans in September. Promoted by Marian McQuade of West Virginia in the 1970s, a bill was finally signed into law by President Jimmy Carter in 1979 designating the Sunday after Labor Day as National Grandparents Day. Mrs. McQuade's work with seniors made her particularly attentive to shut-ins and other elderly not fortunate enough to have family members close by. She viewed National Grandparents Day as an opportunity for children to adopt a grandparent and so provide some friendship to those who might now be alone in their later years. 3

4 Apostleship of Prayer-Intentions of Pope Francis Universal: Young People in Africa-That young people in Africa may have access to education and work in their own countries. O my God, I offer you all my prayers, works, and sufferings of this day, in union with the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, for the following intentions: Sunday: For Francis, our Pope, Michael, our Bishop, Vincent, our Pastor, Alec, our Associate Pastor, and all ministers of Christ s Church, that they may be strengthened by the Holy Spirit. Monday: For the young adults in our community who are searching for direction and purpose, may they find the spiritual core for which their heart yearns. Tuesday: For our deceased, all the sick and suffering, the home-bound, the homeless, the unemployed, those suffering from addictions, cancer, and anyone in any kind Sanctuary Lights; Popes Intentions; Parish & Mass Intentions; Prayers For The Sick Sanctuary Light September 9th-15th in memory of: Clayton Deslatte (SM) George & Ricky BoBoy Leblanc & fly. The power of God protects us. The presence of God watches over us. Wherever we are, God is, and where God is, all is well. Amen. of distress. Wednesday: For brothers and sisters who fight with each other whether they be children or adults, that they may learn the skills of peacemaking. Thursday: That men and women will joyfully answer the call of the Lord to proclaim His life, death and resurrection as priests, deacons and consecrated religious. Friday: For parents trying to balance work, family and personal needs. Saturday: For families facing unemployment or financial stress and for children who work under abusive labor condition in our country and aboard. The cross was once the most horrible way to die, fit only for the lowest of criminals whose crimes were nailed above their heads as examples to those who would see them. Christ humbled himself, by being born in a barn, by living as a man, and by dying on a cross with the words "King of the Jews" written above his head for all to see. As Christ transformed himself through his death and resurrection, and changed death from something to be feared to the beginning of new life, he transformed the cross from an object of fear to a symbol of hope, and from a sign of death to the greatest symbol of love, and everlasting life. 4 Sunday, September 9, 2018: 8:30 a.m. (C) Intentions of the Parishioners of St. Michael Parish 9:00 a.m. (P) Intentions of the Parishioners of St. Joseph Parish 11:00 a.m. (P) Pat, Michel, Florence Accardo, Larry Gaudin, Roger Louque Sr., Olga F. 5 Children s Space Share the Gospel ~ A Message from Fr. Andrew Merrick ~ ~ Cluster Personnel Sharing the Gospel Imagine what it would be like to be deaf-unable to hear music, voices or anything. In today's Gospel reading, Jesus did something amazing. Jesus healed a deaf man, so that for the first time he could hear and talk clearly. What would you listen to? What would you say? Prayer: Dear God, you are so amazing. Thank you for healing the deaf man. Help me to use my ears and my voice to praise you. Something to Draw: Draw a picture of all the things you like to listen to. The word "catechesis" means "to echo." Literally, we are to echo the good news of Jesus Christ. This is not a suggestion; it is a command. Some people are called and set apart in our communities as catechists, charged with passing on the Gospel to children and adults, inside and outside of our communities. On Catechetical Sunday, we acknowledge them and remind ourselves of the need for formation and growth in all of us. To be a catechist is a privileged calling, and today be sure to say "thank you" to one in your community. However, it would be wrong on this day to only look to those bearing the NAME of catechist for an echoing of good news. ALL of us are called to echo the Gospel message. Parents are the first and primary catechists in a child's life. But we also are important catechists in the lives of our coworkers, spouses, relatives, and friends. Some say catechesis begins in the home, while that is true, it carries with it a parent/child connotation. But where does catechesis really begin? It begins in the HEART. May your heart be moved to motivate you to share with others the good news of Jesus Christ. A Prayer for Catechists O God, our Heavenly Father, you have given us the gift of these catechists to be heralds of the Gospel to our parish family. We lift them up to you in thanksgiving and intercede for them concerning their hopes and needs. May we be attentive to the presence of your Word in them, a Word that lifts up and affirms, calls forth and challenges, is compassionate and consoles. We pray that our parish family will always be blessed with those who have responded to the call to share in Christ s prophetic mission as catechists. May we too be open to the universal call to service that Christ addresses to all of his disciples, contributing our gifts to the communion of faith, the Church. We ask this in Jesus name. Amen. A Message From Fr. Andrew Merrick Did not God choose those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the Kingdom? Count your blessings, then come and help others count theirs too, as a priest or religious.
