About 30 people attended, including 8 newcomers to the parish, continuing our tradition of sharing a meal with newcomers periodically through the year. GROW IN KNOWLEDGE by providing stimulating Christian education for all ages, and by encouraging personal growth as well as an awareness of the world around us; GIVE OF OURSELVES with all of our resources in faithful stewardship of God s creation and His many gifts to us; LOVE ONE ANOTHER with sensitivity and compassion in our supportive Christian community; SERVE THE WORLD with an active commitment to reach out to those in need both near and far, and to provide leadership in service to others; PROCLAIM THE GOOD NEWS OF GOD IN CHRIST by word and deed in our daily lives. FIRST HOLY COMMUNION Sunday, May 2nd some young girls and boys received First Holy Communion during the 9:30 Service. TYG Car Wash Washed While you Worship TYG raises money for Mission Philly while washing cars during Sunday Service!!!

2 Page 2 Tidings Interim s Rector s Reflections Beginning my second year at Trinity I have kept my Father s commandments and abide in his love. John 15:1-11 I have begun my second year serving as the Interim Rector of Trinity Church, and this first year has been filled with exciting ministry opportunities. In addition to interaction with the members of the Church I have been pleased to attend to many administrative matters with the assistance of the Staff, and members who serve as Wardens, Vestry, and as ministry leaders on the active committees of this congregation. We are blessed with dedicated and talented people who thrive on challenges as Christians on mission. When people visit in our worship services they often express interest in becoming members in this warm and welcoming church. When they ask, how do I become a member of this vital church, the answer to that question is pertinent particularly at this time as we prepare to begin a class of preparation for membership. All membership in Episcopal churches rests upon a public affirmation of faith and in the case of infants and young children, by parents and godparents serving as sponsors, and incorporation into the church through the sacrament of baptism. The Episcopal Church accepts as Christians all who have been baptized with water in the name of the Holy Trinity whose baptism has been recorded in the church where administered. In a conversation with the Rector one begins the process of membership by arranging baptism if not already baptized, or by transfer from another Episcopal Church. Our office will write for the transfer to the Episcopal Church from which the applicant comes. Confirmation is required for membership, and is one s public affirmation of faith in Christ after instructions have been completed. Those having been baptized and confirmed are received by the Bishop in a service of confirmation and reception. We accept the confirmation coming from The Roman Catholic, The Evangelical Lutheran Church, The Orthodox Churches (Greek, Russian, etc.). All others are confirmed after we conduct classes of preparation, which begin on May 16, continuing for four Sundays at 11 a.m. following the 9:30 a.m. service. All those who wish to complete the process of membership are invited to those four sessions lasting one hour each and meeting in the chapel. The Bishop s visit will be on June 13 th at the 9:30 a.m. service. IT IS CUSTOMARY TO HOLD ONLY ONE SERVICE WHEN THE BISHOP VISITS IN ORDER TO HAVE ALL MEMBERS WHO ARE ABLE TO ATTEND TO BE THERE THAT SUNDAY. SO THERE WILL BE NO 8 A.M. SERVICE ON JUNE 13. In summary, one becomes a member of the Episcopal Church by becoming a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in one of these ways: by baptism, by transfer from another Episcopal Church, by reception (from RC, Orthodox, Lutheran Churches), and by confirmation. In addition to these the Bishop is pleased to acknowledge anyone wishing to reaffirm baptismal vows. I would be glad to deal with any question anyone has about membership. We are eager to help settle the matter of church membership, and to receive new members into Christ s church.

3 Page 3 Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania UTO Event To the faithful of the Diocese of Pennsylvania, I am writing to remind you of the Spring United Thank Offering Ingathering to be held on May 15th, 11:00am at the Seaman s Church Institute, 475 N. 5th Street, Philadelphia, Pa The United Thank Offering has benefited people all over the world for many years and a number of grants have been given for the work of the Church in the Diocese of Pennsylvania. The faithful are encouraged to express their thanksgivings to God by using the Blue Box and sharing some of the bounty with the Lord for outreach work around the world. When we think of the gifts of health and well being, our families, a beautiful day, our parish churches we place some coins or bills in the blue Box to express our grateful thanks and all those offerings are gathered up at the Ingathering, held twice a year. 4 Page 4 Tidings Friends of Music Organ Performance So he brought his people out with joy, his chosen ones with singing. Presents organist Timothy Harrell in concert Sunday, June 6 th at 4:00 p.m. He will perform two works by Buxtehude; Toccata in D minor and the choral variations on Wie schon leuchtet (How brightly shines the morning star.) Offertoire from the Parish Mass by François Couperin, Variations sur un thème de Clément Janequin by Jehan Alain, a setting of the Pentecost Chorale Come, Holy Ghost by J. S. Bach, and Charles Marie Widor s Symphony No. 2 in D. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 age 18 and under. There will be a reception following in McArthur Hall. 5 Page 5 TYG Prepares for Mission Philadelphia On Thursday March 25 th the Trinity Youth Group headed on down to Temples Ambler campus to do some preparation for Mission Philadelphia (which is upcoming and is happening from June 19 th to the 26 th ). While down in Ambler TYG learned from college professors how to plant the seeds that will be used to grow food correctly so that they will be as healthy as possible. Seeds of many different types of plants were planted, including broccoli and cauliflower, and after that TYG was shown a Venus fly trap, and observed a bee keeper at work. The fun day was then capped off with some pizza and everyone returned to their homes happy and full. As a deer longs for the waterbrooks, so longs my soul for MURDER AT THE ABBEY MANOR ANNUAL MASQUERADE BALL September 25th you, O God. Psalm 42 ATTENTION ALL TEENS - You are invited to come and bring a friend to MURDER AT THE ABBY MANOR ANNUAL MASQUERADE BALL. This is a great way to start the new school year. We are so excited we want you to put it on your calendars now! Trinity Youth Group is having a Murder Mystery/ lock-in on Saturday, September 25 th. Linda Kenyon has graciously opened her house to us for the Masquerade Ball, where someone will be murdered.. once we solve the murder we will return to Trinity and be sleeping over until Youth Eucharist on Sunday the 26 th.
