2 (last updated Mar, 209) While we are actively involved in ministry to our community, as you can see below, worship is the heart of St. Michael's. Therefore, our most recent Children's Christmas pageant which came together very well as well as our well attended Pentecost Sunday and Easter Services have been particularly fulfilling. How are your preparing yourselves for the Church of the future? St. Michael's is already working to grow the next generation of our church through encouraging and teaching our children and youth and incorporating them in worship. We hope for a future-minded priest, that will give focus to the efforts already in place with lay persons. community oriented, self motivated, Financially stable

3 (last updated Mar, 209) Our weekly Sunday worship is a very traditional Episcopal liturgy of the Holy Eucharist faithful to the richness of the Book of Common Prayer and the Hymnal 982. We also offer Noon Prayer on Wednesdays and Morning Prayer each Saturday morning before parishioners serve the Heaping Hands breakfast in our parish hall. How do you practice incorporating others in ministry? Children and youth are not just the future of our church, but are actively part of our congregation now as we not only involve youth as acolytes, but also as lectors in rotation with parish adults. Incorporating special music in some services allows parishioners to offer their gifts in our worship. We are starting a choir and have a new choir director. Beyond this, we find that in inviting members and guests to coffee hour we can better get to know those God sends our way. Our fifth Sunday lunch provides an even better opportunity to connect with newcomers.. As a worshipping community, how do you care for your spiritual, emotional and physical well-being? We realize that this is an area of opportunity for growth for us. St. Michael's does a lot for the community, but offers little beyond worship and pastoral care in times of need for its parishioners. We look forward to doing more for both the spiritual and physical well being of our parishioners.

4 (last updated Mar, 209) How do you engage in pastoral care for those beyond your worshipping community? St. Michael's serves Waynesboro and Burke County through the Ministerial Association, Wimberly House Ministries (see below), our Heaping Hands Saturday morning breakfast, and through activities at local nursing home. St. Michael's is closely connected to Wimberly House Ministries, non-profit, non-denominational ecumenical outreach that has served Burke County s 22,000 residents for more than 20 years as an ecumenical outreach ministry. Wimberly House is next to St. Michael's and parishioners are active in the ministry. There are many programs and services available such as after school program for latchkey children, Two-week summer camp for youth, Family Counseling, Education for Divorced Parents, Alcholics Anonymous, 24-Hour Rape Crisis and Sexual Assault Service Victim Advocacy, Citizen s Judicial Panel for Children in Foster Care, and a Respite Care Program. St. Michael's has a long tradition of having members serve the Diocese through its committees and that remains true. Beyond this, we support the Diocese of Georgia's Camp and Conference Center, Honey Creek, financially and through using the camp. Our delegates to the Diocesan Convention keep us informed of the wider church and we are firm supporters of the United Thank Offering. While we have not started any new programs in the last five years, we continue to be active in support of both Wimberly House Ministries and our Heaping Hands breakfast, which make a huge impact on our community.

5 (last updated Mar, 209) What is your practice of stewardship and how does it shape the life of your worshipping community? In recent years, we have been served by priests who lived in Savannah and Augusta commuting to Waynesboro to serve, while living outside of our community. While these priests sought to be faithful to their call, they and we have seen how difficult it is for a priest to connect while living one to three hours away. Our recent conflicts seem to always to center around this absence from the community. We addressed this as well as we could, supporting our priests while they served. But based on this experience, we are seeking a priest that will live in and become a part of our community. What is your experience leading/addressing change in the church? When has it gone well? When has it gone poorly? And what did you learn? Change is difficult, possibly due to our graying parish members. But we have experienced that change has gone best under good compassionate leadership from our priests and vestry, with listening and broad discussion within the parish prior to and during changes. Getting most everyone on board with why changes are taking place before any occur is most helpful. We are looking for a priest with skill at working with the vestry on just this type of change management.
