3 FROM FR. JAY A couple of people have asked me when I am going to start -up my Bible Study again and what I intend to explore. There really has not been many indications of what people would like to learn more about so I am afraid I decided for myself. I picked two topics to look into. The first is A Biblical Walk through the Mass and the second is Ephesians. Because it is the shorter of the two I plan to start with A Biblical walk through the Mass. I hope to begin this study on Tuesday, September 25 at 6:30 PM and Wednesday, September 26 after the 9 AM Mass. This study is based on the revised translation of the Mass that we use every day. It is a 5-part program that takes participants on a tour of the liturgy that explores the Biblical roots of the words and gestures we experience at Mass and explains their profound significance. Find out why we say what we say and do what we do every time we celebrate Mass. When we conclude this study, we will move on to the 8-part Ephesians program. ST. PIUS KOC SOCCER CHALLENGE SUNDAY, 9/23/ :00am - 1:00pm Last Clinic at 12:30pm NO EQUIPMENT REQUIRED FREE TO ENTER Ages 9 11 (Boy & Girl Competitions) Use a regulation-size soccer ball #4 and shoot from the goal Ages (Boy & Girl Competitions) Use a regulation soccer ball #5 and shoot 12 yards from the goal WEEKLY OFFERING ENVELOPES Weekly offering envelopes for have arrived! OCTOBER 1st BOOK CLUB Our October book, A Painted House by John Grisham, is a story told through the eyes of a seven year old boy who sees and hears things than no seven year old could be prepared to handle. He finds himself keeping secrets which would threaten his family s cotton farm in Arkansas and change their lives forever. Please join us on Monday, October 1st at 1:00pm in the Father Weber Center as we delve into a book that will touch your heart. FROM DEACON VENATIUS We all make mistakes in life. No one is perfect; we are all imperfect human beings. We all are frail and weak and always inclined towards evil because of the effects of original sin. We all have a shameful past, a past that we are not so proud of. Sometimes we look back and wish we had not done some things. God understands that we are ordinary flesh and blood. God knows we are a work in progress. God understands our mistakes. As much as God hates sin, he loves the sinner. Remember one thing, every saint has a past, every sinner has a future. God is a God full of mercy, a God who forgives and a God that pardons our guilt and offenses. He is rich in mercy and full of graciousness. As parents, Your children sometimes err or derail. You get mad at them; you rebuke them; you reprimand them; you correct them because you love them and we want them to be better. They still remain your children. You still love them, they still have and enjoy a special place in your heart, Therefore, stop beating yourself up. Stop living in guilt; stop living in the past. What has happened has happened. Yes, you have fallen. It is time to get up, dust yourself off and move on. Forgive yourself, God has forgiven you already. Avail yourself of the sacrament of reconciliation and ask God to forgive you. Make amendment; resolve to be better and to do better. Christian conversion/repentance is an ongoing process. Let the past be the past. We cannot undo the past or turn back the hands of time. Live your best life in the present and entrust the future to the hands of God. Let our daily prayer be: Lord Deliver me from sin, evil, bad habits and all wrong doing, give me the grace to live a holy and righteous life. Let your Holy Spirit come upon me to guide me, direct me and lead me in the right path of life. Amen. PANCAKE BREAKFAST OCTOBER 28th WIDOWERS GROUP Men, while you may want to be on your own in the early stages of grief, connecting with others going through the same kind of experiences can be a powerful healer. Please call Michael Longo at for more information. EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS Eucharistic Ministers are desperately needed for the 10:00am and Noon Masses. If you are interested, please contact the rectory at If we show enough interest, the Diocese will hold the training right here at St. Pius! THANK YOU FOR WORSHIPPING AT ST. PIUS X

4 FAITH MOMENT REFLECTION Christians are called to be disciples of Jesus, faithfully living His Word in their daily lives. The readings today remind us that discipleship is not always easy. Isaiah describes being beaten, insulted and spit upon because of his devotion to God. But rather than compromise his faith, Isaiah "set his face like flint" against those who opposed him and remained firmly committed to God's Word. Hopefully, our faith today will not draw such severe hostility and abuse. But when we do face hardships or challenges, God is always near to help us stand strong. Our commitment to discipleship may require us to "set our face like flint" from time to time. However, the reward for doing so is the ultimate triumph of God's love. Remember what Isaiah tells us: "The Lord God is my help; who will prove me wrong?" Today's Faith Moment was provided by Christ the King Seminary. You can listen to Faith Moments on WBEN radio 930 AM, WLOF FM, or atwww.faithmomentsonline.org. Susan B. Lankes Director of Ins tu onal Advancement Christ the King Seminary SERVICE FAIR St. Francis of Assisi Parish is hosting a Service Fair on September 27th from 4:00pm - 7:00pm at 144 Broad Street, Tonawanda, NY Over 40 agencies will be on site to give information about services including health, housing, and jobs. Bless those who share the story of our faith. May their teaching be filled with the power of your Spirit. May their lives be an example of love poured out in service to our brothers and sisters. May the students they teach be receptive to the knowledge they impart and the faith that is a gift from you. Make us be all witnesses to the command of your Son to teach all nations until He comes again. Getzville, NY SCREENAGERS! GROWING UP IN THE DIGITAL AGE Are you watching kids scroll through life? With their rapid fire thumbs and a six second attention span? Join us for a special showing of the highly acclaimed documentary SCREENagers on Sunday, September 30th at 7:00pm at Christ the King (in the lower church) 30 Lamarck Dr. Snyder. This film reveals how tech time impacts kids development and probes into the vulnerable corners of family life to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics, and internet addiction and offers solutions on how adults can empower kids to best navigate the digital world and find balance. Tickets are available at the rectory or by going to this link: event/presented-by-church-of-christ-the-king For more information, contact Rebecca Cambria at MARRIAGE MOMENT Research studies show that men who kiss their wives before leaving in the morning live five years longer than those who don t. Don t want to be a widower? Remember this. Although I haven t done the research, I suppose this works in reverse too (wives kissing their husbands before leaving) EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP I must confess. I have not always prayed for someone if I told him or her I would. I have fallen victim to making the phrase, "You are in my prayers," a sentence void of real emotion or intent. It is like asking the question, "How are you?" Do I always want to know how you are at the time? Then follows the most common responses of "fine" or "good." I could have had the worst day, but I still utter a response that does not reflect my true state. Many of us say things to be nice without really thinking about it. At least, I hope I am not the only one. The truth is that words are meaningless without action. We sometimes make ourselves and others feel better by saying we will do things only to provide no action at all. Offering best wishes to those in real need without any action is worth little. Even if we think we are sincere, true faith without works is dead. Good stewardship requires us to say what we mean and mean what we say. Stewardship is a way of living. It does ask for sentiments of love. It asks for profound actions of love. We need to offer our gifts, talents, time, and prayers to one another and then follow through. This means we need to be more mindful of what we are saying, more committed to following through, and more accountable for our actions if we fail. If we practice this way of living, not only will we be able to say we are doing the right thing, but our integrity will be intact and we will bear witness to the transforming power of Jesus Christ. --Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS
