2 from our pastor PAGE 2 Dear Friends, Summer time is upon us once again! I can t wait to see what God has in store for our church over the next couple of months. As our kids celebrate their freedom, and we look forward to that summer vacation, would you join me in praying that God would visit us at UBC in a special way this summer as we Worship Together: In the midst of a busy summer of fun, please don t take the summer off from worshipping God here at UBC. We know that where just 2 or three are gathered, Jesus is in the midst (Matthew 18:20). When Jesus passes by, you never know how lives will be changed. Go on Mission: I m so thankful for a church that takes seriously the call of Christ to reach the world for Him (Acts 1:8). Let s pray that God s Holy Spirit would richly bless our mission efforts to Haiti, as well as Ed Brzeznski s mission trip to Malawi. If God leads, consider designating a special financial gift to help one of our team members go on this trip. We all appreciate your daily prayers as we prepare to spread the love of Christ to the people there who desperately wait for hope. Trust God to Grow our Children and Youth in Christ: With Vacation Bible School, children s camp and youth camp just around the corner, it s certain that the lives of our young people will be impacted by Christ in a dramatic way this summer. Please join me in praying that our children and youth who participate in these activities, as well as the weekly opportunities in worship and Sunday School, will make greater commitments in making Christ #1 in their lives. Let s get ready to see God bless UBC in a mighty way this summer. I hope you ll be faithful to worship with us each and every time possible as Jesus passes by and touches the lives and hearts of those who gather to see Him. Thanks be to God that He doesn t take the summer off! See You Sunday, Pastor Kevin VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL Wow! Can you believe VBS is only 34 days away as of this writing! It will be here before we know it and I am SOOOOOO EXCITED!!! Colossal Coaster World will be rolling into UBC bringing great excitement! Together we will learn to face our fears and trust God for all things! The week has been set for June 17 June 21st from 9:00 am until Noon for those 4 years old through 5th grade. SOOOOO, in order for this to be a huge success, we need you! As your Park Operator, I ll need Asst. Conductors (guides) to take the Park Guests (kids) from site to site. Here are my immediate needs: I need two adults to help in the nursery, a couple more kitchen helpers, and several adult guides. I could also use two to four volunteers to help out in the mornings with registration and paperwork. Remember the sooner you commit, the more you are assured the group you would like to work with. Youth, this means you too! You won t want to miss a single day! If you are working in VBS, leader t-shirts are available for $8.00 each. See Miss Pat to purchase one. CD s are available at the cost of $3.50 each. There are two available this year, one for the preschool children and one for the older children. As always, if you are unable to physically help with VBS but want to help in some way, monetary donations are always appreciated to help offset some of the expenses. If you wish to make a donation, please give it directly to Miss Pat or to Bobbie. Thank you in advance for any gift you are able to give. Please join me in praying now for the children who will come through our doors for VBS. Pray, that as leaders, our hearts will be ready to share the good news of Jesus with them and that HIS light will shine through us. Pray that the kids will be able to put the distractions aside and focus on the Bible truths each day. Pray for those who don t have a relationship with Jesus, that this may be the week they accept him as their Savior. Key, kids, start saving that change, especially pennies! We ll have our annual penny war and all funds will go to purchase toys for our Appalachian Toy Drive. Will it be the boys or the girls with the highest offering to claim the prize this year? On JUNE 9th, in place of the evening service, we will Prayerwalk the church for VBS. We have a guide for you to follow that will let you know who is meeting where. Won t you please plan to attend and help us bathe our church in prayer for this very important week. We will also have a Prayer Room set up during the week of VBS. It will be in the purple room on the third floor of the education building. If you feel led at any time during the week to stop in and pray for our workers, kids or any of the prayer requests posted, please feel free to do so! A BIG AWANA THANKS I just wanted to say one last THANK YOU to all the Awana Directors, Secretaries, Leaders, Listeners, and Parents for making our 14th year another GREAT one! Without each of you working so hard and being so faithful to this ministry, it certainly wouldn t be what it is today! Thanks again for all your time and for all you ve done! See you in August! CENTRI-KID 2013 Camp is just around the corner and I can hardly wait! We will be going to Campbellsville University again this year. We will leave Sunday, June 9th, and return Thursday, June 13th. Chaperones for this trip are Brian Clary, Melanie Pikar, and myself. Please join me in praying for those attending; that their hearts will be open and receptive to what God has to say. You can certainly pray for the chaperones too!!! We would appreciate it as well!

Each new year runs May 1 st April 3 UBC VIPs Meet the Hughes family! One of our awesome families at UBC is the Hughes family. Joey, Karen, Alex and Hunter are actively involved in our ministries here and have been for thirteen years now. Joey has served as a deacon, on the human resources team, and in various capacities with the children s ministry. Karen has been an Awana leader, stick-team leader, and has worked in the nursery. Alex, a senior at the University of Kentucky is currently leading the Bible Study for her UK dance team. Hunter is currently active in our youth group, and will be attending camp this summer. The Hughes are the kind of family that are the backbone of our church. Karen and Joey credit being led to join UBC to Pat Durham, our children s minister and her wonderful ministry. Their first year living in Union was the year that our church held Vacation Bible School at Gray Middle School. Since the Hughes had just moved into the subdivision across the road, it seemed natural to take their children there. Pat s kindness, in addition to the wonderful experience that the children had at VBS, led them to eventually join our church. Joey has recently been transferred to a division of the Nestle company that is in Charlotte, North Carolina. Although we will miss them terribly, we know that God will use them wherever they are; they are that kind of servants. Fortunately, we ll get to spend some more time with them as they make the transition south. We wish them all the best, and want them to know that they will always have a home with us.
