2 UPCOMING EVENTS November Fall Youth Encounter at Camp Nazareth November 15 - Orthodoxy on Tap; Meadville, PA December 14 - Visit of the Miraculous Myrrh-Streaming Icon of the Kardiotissa December 16 - St. Nicholas Brunch and 80th Anniversary Celebration Church School has started! Children ages 3-6 will be taught by Pam Vasil; Ages 7-12 will be taught by Lynne Hulse; and our teenagers will be taught by Rich Koerner. Students and teachers are asked to stay until the final blessing of Liturgy. They will be the first ones to kiss the cross so that they can begin class as soon as possible. There are free books and icons in the Church Hall that are available. Please come down and take a look! The Junior ACRY invites youth aged 8-18 to attend Encounter 2018 at Camp Nazareth! Join us November 9-11 for a weekend of prayer, fun and fellowship. Activities will include Divine Liturgy, a religious talk with clergy, sports and a special event. His Grace, Bishop Gregory will be with us as well! This is the second announcement of marriage bans for Aydin Zill & Marissa Thornton. If anyone knows why these two should not be wed, please speak with Fr. Nick as soon as possible. This Sunday has been designated by the Assembly of Bishops as College Student Sunday. We will have a special collection for OCF (Orthodox Christian Fellowship), the Orthodox Campus Ministry sanctioned by the Assembly of Bishops On October 27, our Diocese will be hosting a parenting workshop entitled Raising Believing Children. Lunch & Snacks will be provided, as well as childcare. A freewill offering is being asked for those attending. Please register at our Diocesan website:

3 On Friday, December 14, Fr. Mark Leasure from our Diocesan Parish of St. George in Taylor, PA will be bringing the Miraculous Myrrh-Streaming icon of the Kardiotissa to our parish. 6 To Ponder Every Christian should find for himself the imperative and incentive to become holy. If you live without struggle and without hope of becoming holy, then you are Christians only in name and not in essence. But without holiness, no one shall see the Lord, that is to say they will not attain eternal blessedness. It is a trustworthy saying that Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners (I Tim. 1:15). But we deceive ourselves if we think that we are saved while remaining sinners. Christ saves those sinners by giving them the means to become saints. St. Philaret of Moscow The acquisition of of holiness is not the exclusive business of monks, as certain people think. People with families are also called to holiness, as are those in all kinds of professions, who live in the world, since the commandment about perfection and holiness is given not only to monks, but to all people. To this end the Son of God became incarnate, in order to return us to this divine communion, which was lost by the fall into sin. Through Jesus Christ, the Son of God, we enter into communion with the Father and thus attain our purpose. St. Theophan the Recluse Just as people do not enter a war in order to enjoy war, but in order to be saved from war, so we do not enter this world in order to enjoy this world, but in order to be saved from it. People go to war for the sake of something greater than war. So we also enter this temporal life for the sake of something greater: for eternal life.
