3 Happy Mother s Day May 14th, 2017 On Sunday, May 14th, we pause to show our gratitude to our mothers, both those living and those who have departed from us. May the Risen Lord, through the prayers of His most-pure Mother, bless all mothers with many, blessed years. May the example of the Holy Mother of God Mary, inspire them in their maternal ministries. God grant them many years Christ is risen! May the Risen Lord grant blessed repose and eternal rest to all of our departed mothers. Eternal Memory Christ is risen! Memorial Day May 29th, 2017 On Monday, May 29th, our nation remembers its departed veterans who served in the armed forces of our country. May God grant rest to all departed veterans Eternal Memory! Our deepest sympathies are extended to Pani Eleanor and Fr. Michael Polanichka and to all family members at the repose of Pani s brother, Protopresbyter Ronald Hazuda, on May 5, May God grant eternal rest to Fr. Ronald, and His peace to all those who sorrow. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. (Matthew 5:4)

4 Announcements This is a three-week bulletin. The next bulletin will be on June 4th. There are many upcoming Diocesan events for families and/or youth. Here s a quick recap: Camp Alumni Day: May 20 (DEADLINE TO REGISTER: MAY 14) Family Camp/ Family Day: June 11 Altar Boy Retreat: June Young Women s Retreat: June Summer Camping Sessions If you re reading this and you fit the categories involved, you are invited and wholeheartedly encouraged to participate! Parents, encourage your kids to go! Full information is available with Fr. David and on the diocesan website, acrod.org. It has been a few months since we held a service with special prayers for the living, especially those who are sick. We will have an Akathist Service to the Resurrection on Wednesday, May 17th at 6:00 PM and include your prayer intentions. Fr. David still has the lists from the last time we held this service. If you have changes, additions, or a new list, see Fr. David. May Board Meeting will be moved to Monday, May 22 at 6:00 PM. Our annual Memorial Day Observance will take place on Sunday, May 28th, immediately following Divine Liturgy. We will form a procession from the church to the cemetery cross for a Panachida for our departed priests, panis, veterans, parishioners, and all those in our cemetery. Because of this No Coffee Hour on Sunday, May 28th due to our Memorial Day observance. The final Soul Saturday of the year will be on Saturday, June 3rd. Divine Liturgy and Panachida with the reading of the hramoty (lists of names of our departed) will be at 9:00 AM. Historically, this Soul Saturday before Pentecost is the earliest one celebrated in the Eastern Orthodox tradition, coming at the end of the great 50-day period from the Feast of the Resurrection to the Descent of the Holy Spirit. It is very meaningful that we celebrate this near the site where many of our loved ones are laid to rest. Don t neglect this prayer for the blessed repose of our family, friends and all the departed through the ages! Pentecost is Sunday, June 4th. We commemorate the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles, which enabled them to go out into the world and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all nations. Remember: Pentecost is the Green Holyday (Zelena Svjata), since we decorate the church with greenery to remember that the Holy Spirit is called the Giver of Life. No, St. Patrick s Day isn t the only day to have a green wardrobe. Consider wearing something green to church on June 4th!

Documents: It is very important that you keep all your military records, especially any discharge (DD214, or Reserve/National Guard Retired Status letter) records and or VA medical records in the same location as your personal and important documents. As a military Veteran, you are entitled to a variety of services, to include a cemetery marker or headstone. Your county Veteran s Affairs office can best help you acquire flags, services, and specific information. NOTE: If you need assistance acquiring your DD214, military medical records, or other documents, please contact Gary Yonchak of our church, or any of the Veteran s Affairs offices listed above. He is a volunteer in the Retiree Activities Office at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station in Vienna OH and may be able to help you as needed. Veteran s Medical Facilities: Each Veterans medical facility is self-standing site that provides many necessary services. As each is independent but connected to the overall Veterans Administration, it is important that if you use these facilities, that you become familiar with their input, documentation, and referral services. 6 Local Cultural Events SLAVIC FEST: St. Michael s Byzantine Catholic Church, 2230 Highland Road, Hermitage, is having a Slavic Fest on Sunday, May 21 from 11 AM to 7 PM at the Social Center. Ethnic Slavic Foods and Desserts will be available to eat in or take out. Live bands include the Zaps and the Chardon Polka Band. Vendors, ethnic and religious items, Chinese Auction, and 50/50 Raffle. Free Admission! TASTE OF SERBIA FOOD FAIR: St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, 65 South Keel Ridge, Hermitage is hosting this festival on Sunday, May 28 from 11 AM to 8 PM. Serbian food and sweets including lamb, cevaps, stuffed cabbage, burek, strudel, palachinka, and more. Chinese Auction. Serbian Dance Group Morava from Cleveland will perform at 4:00 PM.

7 Mark Your Calendar: Camp Nazareth Family Day is Sunday, June 11th Join with others from our Diocese and beyond for a day of fellowship & fun. There will be musical entertainment, swimming, craft activities, games and the Raffle Drawing. DIVINE LITURGY is at 10:00 AM. Lunch/Picnic following Liturgy. MENU: Barbeque Beef Sandwich, Barbeque Chicken, Roasted Potatoes, Pasta Salad, Tossed Salad, Chips/ Dip, Homemade Desserts, Drinks, Vegetarian Option: Grilled Vegetable Wrap. Many people are able to recognize their talents and abilities, but there are many people who are unsure of their gifts. They may make them feel worthless. If you know someone who is struggling for a direction in life, give them a little encouragement. Help them discern how they might use their gifts. No gift is too small or insignificant. "For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that be God's will, than for doing evil." - 1 Peter 3:17 The old line says "if you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans." Many of us are diligent in our planning, making sure tings are progressing smoothly, then disaster strikes, we don't get the result that was intended. An unforeseen problem arises.
