4 House Blessings 2019 House Blessing season has begun and lasts until the beginning of Great Lent, March 11. Please schedule an appointment with Fr. Nick so that he can come and bless your house with the newly blessed Theophany water. This is also a great time to get to know your priest better and for him to know you better, so keep your calendars open! Preparing Your Home for Blessing Your home does NOT have to be spotless, but should be free of clutter on the floor, like toys, which may cause Father to trip. A table should be prepared with a white tablecloth, an icon or cross, a candle and an empty bowl (Father will bring the holy water). A list of names of those you want Father to pray for during the service If you have any items (icons, crosses, etc) that you would like blessed, place them on the table also and let Father know and he will bless them for you. Turn off all radios and TVs. Take the phone off the hook during the short blessing service. Cell phones should be turned to silent. Just remember to place your phone back on the hook at the end! Close all doors to rooms you do NOT want Father to enter open the doors to the rooms you do want Father to enter. A family member should lead Father through the house. This can be done by your children, if you have any, girls or boys. If you have a pet, they may also receive a blessing. 5 To Ponder Brothers and Sisters! The all-merciful God desires happiness for us both in this life and in the life to come. To this end He established His Holy Church, so that she might cleanse us from sin, sanctify us, reconcile us with Him and give us a heavenly blessing. The embrace of the Church is always open to us. Let us all hasten there more quickly, we whose consciences are burdened. Let us hasten, and the Church will lift the weight of our burdens, give us boldness before God, and fill our hearts with happiness and blessedness. St. Nectarios of Aegina The Church of Christ is One, Holy, Universal and Apostolic. She is herself a single spiritual body, whose head is Christ, and who has the one Holy Spirit abiding in her. The local parts of the Church are members of a single body of the Universal Church, and they, like branches of a single tree, are nourished by one and same sap from a single root. She is called holy because she is sanctified by the holy word, deeds, sacrifice and suffering of her founder, Jesus Christ, to which end He came in order to save human beings and lead them to holiness. The Church is called universal because she is not confined by place, not by time, nor by nation nor language. The communicates with all humanity. The Orthodox Church is called apostolic because the spirit, teaching and labors of the Apostles of Christ are entirely preserved in her. St. Nicholas of Serbia clearly, our faith in the Lordship and in the Person, in the historicity and in the divinity of Christ, we put ourselves face to face with Him, in the right state of mind: 'Have mercy on me, a sinner. If we turn back to the words of the Jesus Prayer, 'Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner', we see that the first words express with exactness and integrity the gospel faith in Christ, the historical incarnation of the Word of God; and the end of the prayer expresses all the complex rich relationships of love that exist between God and his creatures.
