1 Our Lady of Fatima Parish And Immaculate Conception Church October 14, 2018 PARISH MISSION: Our Lady of Fatima and Immaculate Conception Parish is a Catholic faith community called by God to holiness. Our calling is realized in a spirit of love, unity and hospitality. As a faith community we will deepen our knowledge and love of God in Christ. We will seek to contribute our time, talent and other resources in a spirit of service, based on our Baptismal commitment, founded on the Word of God and celebrated in sacramental life, especially Eucharist.

2 Our Lady of Fatima ANOINTING OF THE SICK The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick will be celebrated within Mass on Sunday, October 21, at 8:30am at Immaculate Conception and at 10:30am at Our Lady of Fatima. The anointing is meant for those who have received a serious diagnosis, those who are in active treatment for a life-threatening illness, and those about to undergo surgery. This will be a special opportunity to remember in prayer all the sick of our parish, not only those present, who will be anointed, but also for those who cannot be there. We join in prayer, asking for healing and comfort, for the people who have asked for our prayers, those listed in our bulletin, and ailing family members and friends no matter where they live. As we pray, we pray together, for the names on your own list and for what is likely a very different list for the person standing next to you. If you cannot be present, you can still join your prayers with those who are at Mass. We would like to invite men in our diocese who are considering a vocation to the priesthood or would simply like some help hearing the Lord s call for their life, to an evening of prayer, conversation with the Vocations Team, and dinner. White Elephant Table needs nice, unique and interesting items, including Christmas decorations in good condition Good books are in high demand and go fast but not the Reader s Digest versions, or schoolbooks. Country Pantry hopes you consider donating a jar or two of those yummy pickles and jams. Baked goods are needed for this table as well, especially pies which are great sellers.. Cookie Table Since this is a big hit, we need lots of homemade cookies. Jewelry, evening bags, gloves and scarves can be placed in the basket at OLF church. RCIA Need hope? Looking for peace? French Jesuits were the first missionaries to go to Canada and North America after J. Cartier discovered Canada in Their mission region extended from Nova Scotia to Maryland. Isaac Jogues, John de Brebeuf, Gabriel Lalemant, Noel Chabanel, Charles Garnier, Anthony Daniel, Rene Goupil and John de Lalande (the first six Jesuits, the last two laymen) preached the gospel to the Iroquois and Huron Indians, and after being tortured, they were martyred in the area of what is now Auriesville, New York. The martyrdoms took place between 1642 and Ten years after the martyrdom of St. Isaac Jogues, Kateri Tekakwitha was born in the same village in which he died. YOUR PARISH NEEDS YOU! 5 OCTOBER 14, 2018 MERCY PROJECT Welcome the Stranger When Pope Francis declared 2016 as the Year of Mercy, our Pastoral Council looked for a way that our parish could participate beyond a single year. The Council chose a project that would support the needs of newly arrived legal immigrants. Parishioners have donated kitchen supplies, linens, seasonal clothing and toiletries through Ascentria, the resettlement agency in Concord. Over 80 families in the parish chose to join in this effort. The number of legal immigrants (mostly from central Africa) has decreased, however, their need for these items continues, as well as the need for additional donors. Donor families receive an about three times a year with a short list of prescribed items to purchase, then deliver these items to church by the designated date. This grotesque recommendation was neither serious nor a joke, but something else; a wake up call to the plight of the desperate. When Jesus offers his modest proposal of total renunciation of our property, we re left in the same boat as Swift s audience. Is Jesus serious or kidding? What is he saying about what s most vital for life? Can t we follow him-and drag all our cool stuff along?
