3 Reverend s Corner I am writing you this note from my luxury accommodations in an Albergue in Astoria to a cool temp of 30 deg plus at 8:30pm We started the pilgrimage at León on Monday walking the alternate rural route which is slightly longer but away from the highway. They say one might be open to voices if one is silent enough however all I heard was Coo-Coo Well it may be true, however I am starting to settle in to the life of a pilgrim - walking, chatting, lots of silence and bunking up like we did at scout camp. First night was Villar de Mazarige and spent much time at the Church - The Journey of Apostle James which is a 16th Century building. The church honours San Isidro Labrador the patron Saint of the farmers And devoted to Pilgrim St James The history is that Apostle James body was brought back to Spain from Jerusalem in a rock boat to be buried. There were some challenges however the Disciples were successful. The paintings and the stain glass tell the wonderful story through the artist hand which coupled with the architecture is breath taking. Each town seems to have at its' centre an impressive church and for the most part are open for us pilgrims to visit. I will close for this week as we prepare for a 25km trek up grade and temps in excess of 30 daily.
