5 Prayer of the Day Let us pray. Almighty Creator and ever-living God: we worship your glory, eternal Three-in-One, and we praise your power, majestic Onein-Three. Keep us steadfast in this faith, defend us in all adversity, and bring us at last into your presence, where you live in endless joy and love, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. Children s Sermon First Reading Isaiah 6:1-8 This reading narrates Isaiah s vision of the Lord surrounded by angels. They sing Holy, holy, holy, a song the church sings at the beginning of the great thanksgiving. This liturgical text invites the church and all creation to sing in praise of God s glory. That glory is God s mercy toward sinners. 1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lofty; and the hem of his robe filled the temple. 2 Seraphs were in attendance above him; each had six wings: with two they covered their faces, and with two they covered their feet, and with two they flew. 3 And one called to another and said: Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory. 4 The pivots on the thresholds shook at the voices of those who called, and the house filled with smoke. 5 And I said: Woe is me! I am lost, for I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips; yet my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts! 6 Then one of the seraphs flew to me, holding a live coal that had been taken from the altar with a pair of tongs. 7 The seraph touched my mouth with it and said: Now that this has touched your lips, your guilt has departed and your sin is blotted out. 8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? And I said, Here am I; send me! The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Responsive Reading Psalm 29 1 Ascribe to the LORD, you gods, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.

Second Reading Romans 8:12-17 In describing the new life of faith, Paul refers to all three persons of the Trinity: the Spirit leads us to recognize that we are children of God the Father and sisters and brothers with Christ the Son. 12 Brothers and sisters, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh 13 for if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. 15 For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption. When we cry, Abba! Father! 16 it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ if, in fact, we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him. 7 Gospel Acclamation Announcement of the Gospel The Gospel according to John the third chapter. Glory to you, O Lord Gospel Lesson John 3:1-17 Jesus miracles prompt Nicodemus to visit him in secrecy. Jesus tells him about being born of the Spirit and about the Son who has been sent by God to save. 1 Now there was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews. 2 He came to Jesus by night and said to him, Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God; for no one can do these signs that you do apart from the presence of God. 3 Jesus answered him, Very truly, I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God without being born from above. 4 Nicodemus said to him, How can anyone be born after having grown old? Can one enter a second time into the mother s womb and be born? 5 Jesus answered, Very truly, I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit. 6 What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not be astonished that I said to you, You must be born from above. 8 The wind blows where it chooses, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit. 9 Nicodemus said to him, How can these things be? 10 Jesus answered him, Are you a teacher of Israel, and yet you do not understand these things? 11 Very truly, I tell you, we speak of what we know and testify to what we have seen; yet you do not receive our testimony. 12 If I have told you about earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you about heavenly things? 13 No one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven, the

8 Son of Man. 14 And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. 17 Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. This is the good news for you today. Praise to you, O Christ. Sermon Song Come Join the Dance of Trinity # 412 Nicene Creed We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the virgin Mary and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. 12 Youth Activity Bags are located in the cry room. These bags include activities for the youth to be used during worship and a snack. Please return the bags at the end of the service. Directories available: There are member directories available in the Narthex. Please feel free to take one for yourself as well as for your family members. We have various collection boxes under the coat rack at the main entrance. It you have items for Redeemer, the Crisis Center, Agape, and other special collections you will find the appropriate box in our collection corner. Hands in Mission donations requested: Fabrics, sewing thread, monetary donations to purchase these items for the World Relief Quilt Project. Fabrics must not have any religious symbols, holiday references or military related prints/patterns. May Prayer Practice: The Labyrinth or Walking Prayer Anyone is welcome to walk and pray with us at Trinity every week on Wednesdays at noon. If you can t join us face to face, we still encourage you to practice prayer where you are at noon on Wednesdays. You are also welcome to text Pastor Melodi at by noon Wednesday and we will lift up your prayer concerns with you. The Auglaize County Historical Society will host a Gravestone Restoration workshop on Saturday, June 16, at St. John s Lutheran Church, Pusheta Road. The cost is $28 for historical society members, and $36 for non-members, which includes breakfast, lunch, and all workshop supplies. Contact the historical society, auglaizecountyhistory@bright.net, for more information or a registration form. On Friday evening (June 15) at 7 pm at the church noted genealogist Karen Bennett will provide a powerpoint presentation about Gravestone Symbolism; the Friday program is free and open to the public. Repairing tombstones is a great way to understand and honor our family, church, and community history! The office will be closed tomorrow in observance of Memorial Day. We are creating an informal pictorial directory of members in conjunction with the 150th Anniversary celebration. It can be any kind of picture: studio pictures, Christmas together, or a fun one off Facebook- just tell us which one! This will also help our new members put names to smiling faces! 13 Adult Affirmation of Baptism Classes offered in June on Sundays at 9am. Did you just take confirmation because your parents made you? As an adult, what questions do you wish you could ask the Pastor now? Please join our discussion group this month and bring your bibles and your questions! June 3 rd : What do Christians believe? June 10 th : What do Lutherans believe? June 17 th : What do other religions believe? June 24 th : Stump the Pastors: What questions have you wanted to ask but afraid to ask? *Sunday, June 24 th members of the class will be invited to publicly affirm their faith during worship if they choose. Thank you for your generous support of our youth offering this year. Since January 2018 we have received over $1,600 to support our youth partners at Redeemer Lutheran. From June-August our youth offering will support our local kids to go to VBS here at Trinity.

14 Agape will be offering their Summer Feeding Program bags again this year. Hard to believe that this will be our twelfth year. Since we provide these bags to all the students who were enrolled in their respective schools free and reduced breakfast and/or lunch feeding programs, we potentially could offer these bags to 1057 students each month. While this is a staggering number of students who are enrolled, we provide for an average of 910 to 965 bags each month. Each student will receive a total of 41 shelf stable items, 6 cold and frozen items and 5 soft and squishy items. These are packed into a total of 3 bags. The shelf stable items can be pre-packed but the cold and frozen and the soft and squishy must to be packed as needed. This requires a substantial amount of work. This is why we require volunteer groups to assist in these packing parties. If you have adults and children that have time during the day, evenings or Saturdays, please let us know so we can make arrangements to have them pack bags for us. Only an hour or so is needed and we can accommodate anywhere from 5 to 35 or so at a time. Give us a call at (419) or send an at agape@bright.net. We can certainly use the help and it really is a great time for everyone. Children can decorate the small snack bags and pack with goodies and the adults can pack the bags. Please help us help our communities.
