This is incorrect. In Greek, the inscription reads, The Touching of Thomas. The Slavonic inscription is, The Belief of Thomas. When Saint Thomas touched the Lifegiving side of the Lord, he no longer had any doubts. This day is also known as Antipascha. This does not mean opposed to Pascha, but in place of Pascha. Beginning with this first Sunday after Pascha, the Church dedicates every Sunday of the year to the Lord s Resurrection. 1

We, as a rule, look for singular signs, special books, or unusual people. More than once we search for something extraordinary, instead of seeing God in ordinary circumstances of our life. It is exactly then, when this ordinariness ceases to flow through regular channels, when illness strikes, perhaps the death of someone closely related that the sign comes and we look at life differently. In our ordinariness, in the humdrum of our life, let s try to notice the many signs which the Lord gives us; the numerous exemplars, through which He speaks to us. 6 May I receive Communion? If you are a practicing and communing Catholic in good standing with the church (confessed recently and as needed, kept the appropriate Communion fast, married in the church if applicable, all the usual stuff) then you are welcome and encouraged to receive the Eucharist. Those who belong to the Eastern and Oriental Orthodox Churches and the Assyrian Church of the East are urged to follow their own church s guidelines; our church does not object to them receiving if they present themselves. If you are not Catholic or you are Catholic but are not properly prepared to receive, please remain in the pew during communion, stepping into the aisle if necessary to let others by. We encourage you to join us in prayer at that time for Christian unity. If you would like to learn more about Catholicism and how you can join us, please speak with Father after church or at your convenience. I heard you have different practices for fasting and about communing children. How does that affect me as a Roman Catholic visitor? You continue to be under the jurisdiction of the Roman canons and the Roman bishop wherever you go, so the same rules apply to you whether you re in a Roman Catholic parish or an Eastern Catholic one. If you or your children may commune in your home parish, you may commune at our church too. You don t need a reason or special permission to attend our church and doing so fulfills your Sunday/feast day obligation. The church doesn t make things hard on you! How do we receive Communion? Assuming you may receive Communion, the next concern many people have is how to receive. All you have to do is watch a few others and you ll be fine. 6

7 Here are some highlights: *We don t bow or make the sign of the cross as we approach the chalice, but cross our arms over our chest in an X to keep them out of the way. We don t want to accidentally send the chalice flying. *If you want to, you may tell Father your Christian/Baptismal name as you approach. *Look up toward the ceiling and open your mouth like a baby bird. That s all there is to it. *Don t stick your tongue out. This is the most important one to remember. *We don t say anything after we ve received. We re really serious about that whole being careful with the Eucharist bit, so we try not to create opportunities for accidents to occur. Next Parish Council meeting is Monday April 16 th, commencing with liturgy at 6:30, as this is the first meeting of the newly elected council, we take this opportunity of welcoming all our returning, council and committee members, plus two new members, 1 st Vice President Andy Labay, and Parish Council Secretary John Bazarkewich. At this time, we also thank parish council members, Maryanne Siwicki (parish council secretary, and Robert Hotel 1stVice President) for their hard work and dedication to our parish during their tenure, may God s Blessings be your reward. SECURITY: It may be a sign of he times, however security is becoming a concern not only around but also inside of our church, the problem was explained by Ron Trakalo, recently after Liturgy and was brought forward at the annual meeting, with a motion being passed that the parish install a security system, not only for the protection of the premises but also as security for our parishioners who work alone in the office or downstairs, as the installation is costly it was further determined that we should start a tax deductible fund raiser, ( similar to what we had for the stained glass windows or elevator), we thank the Robin s family for starting the fund raiser with a $ donation, donations of!00.00 or more will be printed in the bulletin. 8 Excerpt from the Homily on St. Thomas Sunday by St. John Chrysostom This was therefore a work of divine providence, that the separation of the disciple would become a harbinger of increasing safety and surety. For if Thomas had not been absent, he would not have doubted; and if he would not have doubted, he would not have sought strangely; and if he would not have sought, he would not have felt; and if he would not have felt, he would not have been convinced of the Lord and God; and if he did not call Him Lord and God, then neither would we have been taught to hymn Him thus. For Thomas by not being present, has led us towards the truth, and later became more confirmed regarding the faith. Therefore the disciples told Thomas who came last of all: We have seen the Lord, we have seen He Who said: 'I am the light of the word'; we have seen Him Who said: 'I am the resurrection and the life and the truth', and the words of truth we found truly shining in Him. We have seen Him Who said: 'After three days I will arise, and you will behold the resurrection', and we worshiped Him Who was resurrected. We heard Him tell us: 'Peace be unto you', and our confusion of sadness was transformed into peace and joy. We beheld His hands showing the signs of the nails, we beheld the hands that were railed against by the God-hating dogs in rage; we beheld the hands that brought about our incorruption; we also beheld the side that cried out most radiantly of all with the compassion of He Who was wounded. For by your doubting, I am taught to believe; by your forked-tongue that revealed the wound on the divine body that was pierced, I harvest the fruit for myself without pain. [For you said] unless I see with my eyes the wounds in His holy hands, then the impious would question, without accepting our words. Unless I place this my finger into the marks of the nails, then they will not receive our Gospel. Unless I place this my hand into that side, the untrampling witness of the resurrection, they will not believe my words...from now on, people will be preached of the wonders of the teacher: how will they accept these without seeing with their eyes? How will the faithless come to believe, and ultimately follow Him Whom I did? Will I say to the Judeans and Greeks that the Crucified One and my Master is risen, but I did not see Him, but simply heard of Him? And who will not laugh at my voice? Who will not ignore my preaching? It is one thing to hear, and another to see. It is one thing to receive words, and another to see and touch something. Therefore doubt conquered the mind of Thomas, and after eight days again the Master appeared to His disciples who were gathered together. He left Thomas during these days to be preached to by the others, and to fill him with the thirst for the vision of Him, and his soul was greatly inflamed with the desire to see. Therefore, at the proper time, the one who was desiring perceived the One Who is desired. 8
