1 Glenelg Catholic Parish 15th April 2018 THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER Experiencing the Risen Christ Deacon Pat Edwards If you had been standing outside the tomb of Jesus on Easter Sunday morning, what do you think you would have seen? I m sure there would be a myriad of responses to that question. Perhaps it is one you could field together as a family or group. But raised, as many of us were, surrounded by Christian art, perhaps some of us would see the massive stone rolled away and Jesus would step out possibly holding a non-descript flag and with an expression suggesting he was pleased with the turn of events. And he is there in his old body. But that last image misses the whole point. Jesus takes on a new body which is the universal body. Jesus universal body moves from one moment of space and time to everywhere. The Gospel resurrection stories highlight this. Jesus appears in rooms where the doors are locked; although bodily present, he is not immediately recognised by his followers (e.g the disciples on the road to Emmaus, Mary Magdalen in the garden outside the tomb, the disciples on the beach) You can use your imagination as to how Jesus and his universal body would have appeared outside the tomb on Easter Sunday morning. The important fact is that the Risen Christ can no longer be localised in one place because he is every place. That means if we dare to believe it, he is present right here in this room as you are reading this article. Shortly, we will commence the Liturgy of the Eucharist, but we don t have to wait for the Eucharist to experience the Risen Christ because he is already here. And his primary presence is not only in the consecrated host and wine of the Eucharist, he is present also in the bread of our bodies. We are fed the bread of the Eucharist to remind us that we are the Body of Christ. It s not just the transforming of bread into the Body of Christ; Christianity is also concerned with the transformation of people. Until that purpose is realised, the Risen Christ has not risen!

Oz Rosary #53 The Glenelg Parish will be participating in a virtual rosary around Australia on Sunday 13th May after the 10.30am Mass in Our Lady of Victories Church. St Dominic s Centre News Due to Sr. Pats illness, St. Dominic s is being run by a few faithful volunteers but they need more help. St Dominic s aged care centre offers the following: Monday Men s Billiards Tuesday - Cards Wednesday Exercise Classes for Seniors Thursday Bingo They also have a large Library that parishioners can access during any of the above session times. If you are able to volunteer a few hours once a week to help with any of these services or to provide a listening ear, please contact Orla as soon as possible in the parish office. Thank you. EVENTS Youth Cross Design Contest Design your own cross that you think represents young people and submit your design by 1st June. Winning designs will get a chance to work with the artist to create the Diocesan Youth Cross. 7 Our Parish Stewardship Renewal Every three years we begin a new Parish Stewardship or Thanksgiving Renewal. This is the time when we reflect more consciously on the contribution we make to our parish family, by giving of our time, our talents, and our finances. Our Thanksgiving Renewal begins in three weeks. All sections of the Parish can help in some way: - Young, Old, Regular and New Parishioners. What will your contribution be? Serve in some way, contribute financially, and participate in gratitude. All parishioners are invited to assist during this time. STEWARDSHIP WORKING BEE CAN YOU HELP? On Tuesday 1 st May, at 10.00am in the St. Mary s Hall, we are holding a Working Bee to assemble letters and Information for all our Parish Families. If you can help us, please come along and lend a hand. This will entail folding and placing material into envelopes. Approximately 15 Helpers are required to assist (approx. 2 hours). If you are able and willing to assist, please telephone the Parish Office this week and leave your name. 8 LITURGY YEAR B 3RD SUNDAY OF EASTER We are called with the apostles to witness that the Christ has suffered and on the third day risen from the dead, and in his name to preach repentance for the forgiveness of sins to all the nations. 1st Reading: Acts 3:13-15, You killed the prince of life; God, however, raised him from the dead. Psalm: 4:2, 4, 7, 9 Lord, let your face shine on us. 2nd Reading: 1 John 2:1-5 Jesus Christ is the sacrifice that takes away our sins and those of the whole world. Gospel Acclamation: Alleluia, alleluia! Lord Jesus, make your word plain to us: make our hearts burn with love when you speak. Alleluia! Gospel: Luke 24:35-48 It is written that the Christ would suffer and on the third day rise from the dead.
