Parents and godparents must attend a baptismal preparation class before the baptism. Other requirements will be discussed at the initial interview. Matrimony-Weddings are celebrated throughout the year. In accord with Church Law, at least one of the parties to be married must be a member of St. Joseph, otherwise special permissions are needed. Marriage preparation is to begin at least 6 months prior to the wedding. It is strongly recommended that a couple planning to be married at St. Joseph contact the Parish before making any contractual arrangements with a facility for their reception. During the initial interview with the priest of the Parish, the couple will be provided with all the necessary information needed for their preparation expenence. 3 TIMES OF REFRESHING Fr. Ricky V. Ordonez Healy Hall's Red Doors! People have asked me why I painted Healy Hall's doors red. I had my personal reasons, but now, I find out that my choice has been backed by history and tradition. Consider the following: Scriptural - In Exodus 12, the Lord gives specific instructions to protect His people from the dreaded "Angel of Death". They were to smear the blood of a year old male animal as a sacrifice (v.5). Later on, it signified the sinless blood of Jesus Christ that was shed for us on the cross. Thus, His purity signifies him to be the "Lamb of God". In verse 13, the blood is the "distinguishing mark" or an external symbol whereby God passed over those homes without destroying the firstborn within. The act was a sign of obedience and confidence that the people showed to an all-knowing God. American - An early American tradition of a red door signifies that the home is a safe place to rest and stay. During the civil war, homes that were sanctuaries to escaped slaves had red doors. Scottish - Scottish tradition had owners paint their doors red to signify that their mortgage had been paid off. (Hmm! St. Joseph has been debt free since 2015.) Chinese - Red has always been a lucky color for the Chinese. They wear it during the lunar new year, birthdays and other auspicious events. In fact, they give their doors a new coat of red paint every new year. It is also an accepted element of Feng Shui where bold colors like red invite opportunities and abundance. vvwvvw All Saints Day and All Souls Day Masses: November 1, All Saints Day - It is a Holy Day of Obligation. There will be a mass at 7 AM and 9AM. November 2, All Souls Day - It is NOT a Holy Day of Obligation. We will have the regular mass at 7 AM. Tenfa mis razones personales, pero ahora descubro que mi elecci6n ha estado respaldada por la historia y la tradici6n. En Estados Unidos: una tradici6n estadounidense temprana de una puerta roja significa que el hogar es un lugar seguro para descansar y permanecer. 5 Last weekend the Arizona Rosary Celebration was very well attended. The Arizona Rosary Celebration is the longest continuous annual Rosary event held in a public venue in the United States. It is the largest annual gathering of Catholics in Arizona. The Knights of Columbus is the main sponsor. Bishops, priests and religious have played a vital role in the yearly October Rosary event. The Rosary Celebration started in Phoenix, and in 2011, spread to Tucson. This was the first year it was also held in Yuma. Hundreds of altar servers and thousands of participants from organizations, families and ethnic groups from around the two diocese formed the blessing processions. Our last Scripture Rosary of October will be this Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in the parish chapel. All are invited. Sunday Eucharist is a celebration. At Mass, Jesus teaches us to love through the readings and the prayers. Jesus' great commandment is love. The people of God love with whole selves. The KEY CONCEPTS are: The prophet Isaiah listed seven gifts that would belong to Jesus, which are now shared with Jesus' people; wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and the fear of the Lord. Those that live by the Spirit produce the fruits of the Spirit. The tradition of the Church and St. Paul in Galatians lists twelve: charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control, and chastity. The more we renounce ourselves and abide in Christ, the more we live by the Spirit and bear fruit. The KEY TERMS: Gifts of the Holy Spirit: Permanent dispositions that make us docile to follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit. Fruits of the Holy Spirit: The perfections that the Holy Spirit forms in us. They are a result of living in the Holy Spirit.
