3 October 8, 2017 Page 3 Dear Good People of Our Lady of the Cross, Deanery Mission: It is Tuesday morning as I type this column and last night we began our Mission. We had MANY people in church, which was very good to see! Fr. Sullivan kept us captivated with his stories, his humor and his booming voice. I pray that the remainder of the Mission will go just as well. I would like to express my thanks to Joe Dimarino and our choir for performing hymns before the Mission began and during the service. They did a great job! I am also grateful to our parishioners who acted as greeters. Lawn Signs: Last Sunday afternoon I received a call from Holyoke Medical Center asking me to come to the hospital to anoint a patient. As I drove to and from the hospital I spotted 5 of our Fall Festival Lawn Signs. I am grateful to those of you who took lawn signs and posters to display. The more publicity we have, the more successful our Festival will be! Speaking of the Festival: The parish office is filling up with some really great prizes, wine, gift cards and lottery scratch tickets. I am grateful for all of your donations and hope that they continue to be brought in. Generous Response: After Hurricane Harvey struck, our parishioners donated $2,800. towards hurricane relief efforts (this does not include donations made directly to Catholic Charities). I would like to thank you for your generosity. As I announced last week, we are now asking for donations to aid the people of Puerto Rico. If you would like to help, use one of the orange/white envelopes available at the doors of the church. And please continue to pray for all those suffering so terribly because of recent natural disasters. Happy Retirement: Some of you may have heard the news that our parishioner, Ed Cote, retired July 15. Ed owned the Acres Company for over 37 years. During that time Ed and his sons, Jeff and Mike, serviced Mater Dolorosa Church & School and Our Lady of the Cross. Ed was always readily available when I had electrical questions or questions about one of the heating systems. Believe me, I had many questions, especially when I first became pastor. Ed is a treasure of information, especially in regards to our school and social center. I would like to thank Ed for all the assistance he has provided to us over the years. Thank you Ed and please enjoy your retirement! Thank You: Because of the generosity of the Mater Dolorosa School CYO, an AED (external automatic defibrillator) was recently installed in our school gym. An AED is the only effective treatment for restoring a regular heart rhythm during sudden cardiac arrest and is an easy to operate tool for someone with no medical background. I express my sincerest thanks to Ed Godek, our CYO Director and his Advisory Council for donating the AED to our school/parish. Update: I met with the Church Enhancement Committee last week and would like to share this update with you. Very soon the statues of St. Francis and St. Anthony will be placed in the vestibule of the church. As soon as the base is made, the Pieta will be placed in the church where the tabernacle is located. In the near future we will begin work on remodeling one of the original confessionals. We also plan on shortening the altar in the former MD church and using it in Mater Dolorosa School for school Masses. Here are the costs of the individual projects: Restoration of the 3 statues: $2,000. Fabrication of a stained oak base for the Pieta statue: $2,800. Remodel confessional (including electrical): $5,000. Restoration of Mater Dolorosa altar: $1,900. At this time we are seeking contributions to cover the cost of these projects. Donations may be made in memory of a loved one or in honor of someone. Once these projects are completed, some type of plaque will be created and placed in the church. If you have any questions, please let me know. Peace, FR. ALBERT Announcing Our Fall Festival Entertainment Saturday, October 21: Daigle s Beer Hall Boys (3:30 7:30 pm) Sunday, October 22: Sarah the Fiddler (1 2 pm)

Public Square Rosary Crusade Our Lady of the Cross Hall Lawn October 14 at noon For more information, call In the historic year of the Fatima Centennial, the world is at an historic crossroad. God will hear us if we pray through the intercession of His Blessed Mother. That s why we are having the 2017 Public Square Rosary Crusade. In the Secret of the Rosary, St. Louis de Montfort said: Public prayer is far more powerful than private prayer to appease the anger of God and call down His mercy, and Holy Mother Church, guided by the Holy Spirit, has always advocated public prayer in times of public tragedy and suffering.
