WE GATHER AS GOD S PEOPLE Please listen meditatively to the prelude to prepare yourself for worship. PRELUDE 8 a.m. Dee Dee Uhle, piano 11 a.m. Liturgical Improvisa on G. Oldroyd / William Jenne, organ CHIMES WELCOME and ANNOUNCEMENTS INTROIT I Heard the Voice of Jesus WE WORSHIP OUR GREAT GOD Thomas Tallis *CALL TO WORSHIP (responsive) Luke 19:1-10 One: Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through it. Now a man named Zacchaeus was there; he was a chief tax collector and was rich. He was trying to get a look at Jesus, but being a short man he could not see over the crowd. So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, because Jesus was going to pass that way. And when Jesus came to that place, He looked up and said to him, Many: Zacchaeus, come down quickly, because I must stay at your house today.
2 One: So he came down quickly and welcomed Jesus joyfully. And when the people saw it, they all complained, Many: He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner. One: But Zacchaeus stopped and said to the Lord, Many: Look, Lord, half of my possessions I now give to the poor, and if I have cheated anyone of anything, I am paying back four mes as much! One: Then Jesus said to him, Many: Today salva on has come to this household, because he too is a son of Abraham! For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost. All: Let us worship God! *HYMN 306 Fairest Lord Jesus *PRAYER of CONFESSION (responsive) Luke 18:35-43 (8 a.m., first/last vs.; 11 a.m., all) One: As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was si ng by the road begging. When he heard a crowd going by, he asked what was going on. They told him, One: Jesus the Nazarene is passing by. One: So he called out, Many: Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me! One: And those who were in front scolded him to get him to be quiet, but he shouted even more, Many: Son of David, have mercy on me! One: So Jesus stopped and ordered the beggar to be brought to Him. When the man came near, Jesus asked him, What do you want me to do for you? He replied, Many: Lord, let me see again. One: Jesus said to him, Receive your sight; your faith has healed you. And immediately he regained his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they too gave praise to God. *ASSURANCE of FORGIVENESS *GLORIA PATRI 579 *PASSING of the PEACE CHILDREN S SERMON ANTHEM Lenten Litany Mar n How

4 Luke 22:28-48 Savoring the Word April 2-April 8, 2017 There are three stories knit together here that seem very different from one another the leading to Jerusalem, the weeping over the city by Jesus, and Jesus cleansing of the temple. As you begin your readings this week, pray about how these stories will all knit together in your life. Monday Tuesday Read 22:28-48 and ask yourself how these stories fit together in your life. Read 22:28-40 what part of your life do you want to welcome Jesus into? Wednesday Read 22:41-44 What do you think Jesus weeps over for our city today, whether that s where you immediately live, or our country or world beyond just here. Thursday Friday Saturday Read 22:45-48 As you read this story, what do you think Jesus wants to cleanse in you? In the church (whether that s PCW or the church as a whole)? Read 22:28-48 with someone else ask what they hear through the passages. Read 22:28-48 in another transla on what speaks differently to you as we close the week? As you prepare for worship on Palm Sunday, pray about coming with an expectant heart for what God IS going to speak into your life and be ready to welcome God into your life.
