1 THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH of WYOMING. CONNECTING with GOD, EACH OTHER & the WORLD January 22, 2017 Welcome, Visitors! We are so glad that you have joined us for worship today. Please take a moment to let us know who you are by writing your name and info in the Friendship Pad. If you need a hearing-enhancement device, a large-print hymnal, or a Children s Worship Kit, please see an usher. GATHERING MUSIC WELCOME & OPENING SONG Our God CALL to WORSHIP SONGS Open the Eyes of My Heart Revela on Song PRAYER of CONFESSION (responsive) One: Many: One: Many: One: WE GATHER AS GOD S PEOPLE Please listen meditatively to the music to prepare yourself for worship Visions Band Instrumental O Lord, forgive us when we fail to respond to Your call with faith. Through Your Spirit we stand in the assurance of Your acceptance. Forgive us when we are shackled by our narrow understandings0 of discipleship and our clouded sense of purpose. Through Your Spirit we are drawn into the illumina on of Your empowering love. Forgive us when we are frightened of the future or pull back from the demand of Your calling. Forgive us when we fail to sense Your presence in our past, to acknowledge Your grace in the present moment, and to trust You for our future.
2 Many: WE PASS the PEACE CHILDREN S SERMON Through Your Spirit we offer ourselves in discipleship. We stand together as Your disciples. We seek renewed and renewing faith. Touch us now with Your Spirit, Lord. Touch us now with Your Spirit. We stand together as your disciples. We seek renewed and renewing faith. Touch us now with your Spirit, Lord. Touch us now with your Spirit. 3 Savoring the Word for Sunday, January 29, 2017 Luke 6:1-16 Ques ons and Ac ons on the Sabbath Memory Verse Luke 6:9 I ask you, is it lawful to do good or to do harm on the Sabbath, to save life or to destroy it? Reflec on Ques ons What does the word Sabbath mean to you? Have you ever tried to prac ce a Sabbath me? How did it go? What rules do you hold to that might not be what God desires for people? Prayer Lord, challenge me to prac ce Sabbath. Help me to prac ce it in my own life and to offer Sabbath spaces for others. Amen. How to read it this week Choose which days the following will work for you. Read the passage in the morning, over lunch, and in the evening. Read the passage to someone else and ask what they hear in the passage. Read the passage in another transla on from what you normally use. What is different? Take an hour and go for a walk without a phone on, without anything that will draw you away. Just walk silently for an hour. If you are not able to get out and walk yourself, could you sit silently for an hour? What represents Sabbath to you in the world? Is there a song that brings you rest and renewal? Is there a pain ng? A story? Take me to take that in. On Saturday read the passage again and take note what you hear differently come Saturday.

Thank you! 2017 Budget update - The Session has been reviewing the results of the Stewardship campaign, and we want to thank you for your generosity. Session has been carefully working with Stewardship, Finance and all of the ministries within PCW to ensure we properly account for the financial needs of our church and spiritual growth of our members. As of January 9th we have received $554,543 in pledge commitments for 2017, which is a blessing. These commitments are the cornerstone of our annual financial planning for the upcoming year, and we are finalizing the 2017 opera ng budget. Currently, when we combine all of our expected receipts for 2017 and make assump ons for our expenses, we are looking at a projected opera ng deficit of about 5% (apx $35,000) in the coming year. Session is reviewing op ons on how to address the deficit, including poten al revenue areas as well as reducing opera ng costs and other avenues to either balance the budget or plan for a way to eliminate as much of it as possible. There are many variables in our planning forecast, and we want you to be informed. If you have not made your commitment for 2017, please do so before January 31. As well, if you wanted to give a one- me gi to help close the gap or would be interested in Increasing your pledge, please contact Ron Stoerker at rstoerker@pcwyoming.org or x103. Mark Your Calendar for Your Fight with Goliath! This year s Men s Retreat will be looking at the themes in Facing Goliath, a book by J.P. Jones. Mark your calendars now for February 24th-26 th.
