The Parish Office currently carries Shop Rite gift cards ($25 & $100 denominations). Scrip cards can be purchased any time during office hours, Mon.-Fri. Craft Ministry Rosary Makers meet Tuesday mornings (during the school year) following 9 am Mass in the Religious Ed Annex (directly upstairs from the Parish Office). Eucharistic Adoration is held at Holy Innocents every Thursday (except holidays and holy days) 9:30 am-9 pm AND on First Fridays from 9:30 am-2 pm. Special thanks to all who make regular Adoration possible here at Holy Innocents! Please invite your friends and family members to participate. 3 Page 2 December 24, 2017 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Dear Parishioners, Christmas is a time of great celebration in which families come together. It is a time to pray and a time to party. As Catholics, we know that those two things often go together, because as our Lord says, "Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them?" (Matthew 9:15) When we are with Christ, it is always a time to rejoice. I just have three quick notes before we enter into this great feast. First, please be mindful of the norms to receive Holy Communion. Receiving Eucharist is not eating common food for our bodily nourishment but the King of Kings who comes down to us under the appearance of bread and wine. Therefore we need to make a place for Him in our hearts and lives. If we find ourselves living a life contrary to His teachings, then we are rejecting His grace. As Catholics, we need to live a fully integrated life, not one in contradiction with itself. A Catholic may receive communion if they are in good standing, united to the Church and not aware of committing any mortal sin. (Can 915, 916; CCC 1415) If you judge yourself to not being in good standing or being in a state of mortal sin, then please refrain from receiving communion. A good confession is all it takes for someone to enter into a state of grace and I invite anyone to contact me if they would like to go to confession. Second, on December 28th at 5:30 pm, we will be celebrating the Feast of the Holy Innocents with a Latin High Mass. As you may be able to tell from my previous letters, I have a special love for the Latin Mass. I find them incredibly peaceful and focused on the presence of God. A High Mass is a Latin Mass in which all the various parts are sung. I think this really brings out the beauty of the Mass. As I was celebrating low Masses on the Fridays of Advent, certain elements fell into place perfectly. So, I'm taking this as a sign from the Holy Spirit that now is the right time to celebrate a High Mass in our parish. So many people try to relegate the Latin Mass to something in the past that should be forgotten. But, I find that the Latin Mass emphasizes everything we should hold dear in our Catholic faith. The Latin Mass has deepened my own faith and priesthood in many ways. So, whether or not you come to it to remember the patron saints of our parish or out of love for the Mass, I hope that you give this form of the Mass of try. It will be beautiful. Third, I would like to thank our St. Vincent de Paul Society for the work they did this season. Through their efforts, our parish has given presents to over fifty families in need. Deliver food to Mother Teresa s soup kitchens and to the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal s shelters, and also to other local charities in Monmouth County. Next Family Game Night Join us Friday, January 12th at 5 pm in the cafeteria. All ages are welcome, but children must be accompanied by an adult. You may bring your own game to play. Enjoy old favorites or learn new games. Pizza & drinks are provided, and a free-will offering taken. Gamers are encouraged to bring snacks or dessert for the sharing table. Holy Innocents Music Ministry The Adult Choir sings at the 10 am Mass, the Folk Group at the 12 Noon Mass, and The Teen Praise Group the first Sunday of the month at 5:30 pm Mass. The Choir practices in church every Tues., 7 pm. If you are interested in being a part of our parish music ministry, speak with the Music Director.

If you are registering a child for Kindergarten or Gr. 1, please bring your child s Baptismal Certificate. Families currently enrolled receive re-registration forms and information through the mail. St. Vincent depaul Society Holy Innocents SVDPS provides financial assistance and also maintains a small (non -perishables only) food pantry to assist residents of Neptune and a limited surrounding area. Please call x24 for information or assistance. Someone is available at the pantry on Sundays following the 10 am & 12 Noon Masses. SVDPS gratefully accepts local grocery store gift cards, as well as monetary donations through the poor boxes in church and the green Social Concerns envelopes. There s always a need for helping hands. Anyone interested in volunteering with this ministry, please call for more information. Sacraments Preparation for First Eucharist takes place normally in Gr. 2. We do have a class for older students who have not received their sacraments. In order to enter the First Eucharist Class, the Gr. 1 curriculum, must be completed. Confirmation preparation takes place in Gr. 7 & 8. Religious Ed class for Gr. 7 must be completed before entering the Gr. 8 program. VIRTUS for adults training is presented throughout the year at different locations. ANY adult volunteer or staff member working with children is REQUIRED to attend this one-time training session and also submit to fingerprinting & criminal background check. Schedule for the Coming Week Philadelphia Boys Choir St. Rose Church, Belmar hosts a Christmas Season Concert on January 7, 2018 at 3 pm.
