3 Church of the Divine Child, Dearborn, Michigan Page 3 Things Above from Fr. Bilot Here we are embarking on the month of June. Divine Child Schools are finished on Friday, and other schools in the area will be out shortly. Every year, I take this opportunity to mention that summer is a window, hopefully, to cut back on activities, enjoy the outdoors, and waste time with the Lord, Jesus. By wasting time, I mean taking some of our extra time to pray and connect deeper with the Lord by pondering on the mystery of the life of Christ and his great love for all of us. Sitting on the porch, opening our Bible, starting with the Gospel of Matthew, and seeing how Jesus related to the people he ministered to during his sojourn on earth. Then, we look at our own life situation and allow the Lord to be with us and open our hearts to hear and see what he desires for us. (Fr. John wrote about Lectio Divina in his column, and you can also go online to our Catholic websites to get the outline or call the rectory and we will give you a copy.) A simple encounter -- sitting on the porch, by a lake, or by one of the shrines here at the parish -- is an excellent opportunity to be with the Lord. You will be amazed at how lavishly the Lord desires to pour his love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit. Tuesdays are still a wonderful grace-filled time to come to the air-conditioned church and just sit with the Lord during Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. In pouring out our hearts: our hopes, fears, dreams, expectations and struggles, we can entrust all this to the Lord, and he will help us sort it out. Praying in front of the Blessed Sacrament purifies our intentions and allows us to make good and holy decisions. Sometimes what we have to do makes us uneasy or unsettled; however, if we move under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, all will be well. We just need to trust. Trust that God is bigger than us and has the whole picture. Trust that if we walk in his ways, our souls will be purified and emboldened to show the world how much we love God. We don t have to stand on a street corner with a sign saying how much we love the Lord. We are better witnesses when we allow the love poured into our hearts to flow out generously. Finally, how about picking up a Catholic spiritual book? Or, join the DC Book Club. They are always reading good Catholic reads! And don t forget, the Adoration Chapel is open 24 hours. If you can t sleep or need quiet and the presence of the Lord, come to the Chapel (driveway side before the fish pond). The chapel is beautiful, inviting and peaceful. Start summer off correctly. We were told there is no vacation from a vocation. So, there is no vacation from a prayer life with the Lord and that includes our Sunday worship to praise God and receive Holy Communion. A friendly reminder of the changes in the Mass schedule, which goes into effect the first weekend of July: 4:30 on Saturday. 8 a.m.; 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. STARTING JULY 1, 2016 NEW SUNDAY MASS SCHEDULE 8:00am 10:00am 12:30pm Always in gratitude, Fr. Jim Bilot He said, Young man, I tell you, arise! The dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother. - Lk 7:14c-15

4 Page 4 Church of the Divine Child, Dearborn, Michigan Fr. John Kopson s Commentary The Eucharistic Miracle of Lanciano Jesus clearly taught about the reality of His True Presence in the Eucharist. St. Paul, in the New Testament, also taught about Jesus True Presence in the Eucharist. In addition to this Scriptural proof, God has allowed us to experience Eucharistic Miracles throughout history. Here is one such miracle: This wondrous Event took place in the 8th century A.D. in the little Church of St. Legontian, as a divine response to a Basilian monk's doubt about Jesus' Real Presence in the Eucharist. During Holy Mass, after the two-fold consecration, the host was changed into live Flesh and the wine was changed into live Blood, which coagulated into five globules, irregular and differing in shape and size. The Host-Flesh, as can be very distinctly observed today, has the same dimensions as the large host used today in the Latin church; it is light brown and appears rose-colored when lighted from the back. The Blood is coagulated and has an earthy color resembling the yellow of ochre. Various ecclesiastical investigation ("Recognitions") were conducted since In 1970-'71 and taken up again partly in 1981 there took place a scientific investigation by the most illustrious scientist Prof. Odoardo Linoli, eminent Professor in Anatomy and Pathological Histology and in Chemistry and Clinical Microscopy. He was assisted by Prof. Ruggero Bertelli of the University of Siena. The analyses were conducted with absolute and unquestionable scientific precision and they were documented with a series of microscopic photographs. These analyses sustained the following conclusions: The Flesh is real Flesh. The Blood is real Blood. The Flesh and the Blood belong to the human species. The Flesh consists of the muscular tissue of the heart. In the Flesh we see present in section: the myocardium, the endocardium, the vagus nerve and also the left ventricle of the heart for the large thickness of the myocardium. The Flesh is a "HEART" complete in its essential structure. The Flesh and the Blood have the same blood-type: AB (Bloodtype identical to that which Prof. Baima Bollone uncovered in the Holy Shroud of Turin). In the Blood there were also found these minerals: chlorides, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, sodium and calcium. The preservation of the Flesh and of the Blood, which were left in their natural state for twelve centuries and exposed to the action of atmospheric and biological agents, remains an extraordinary phenomenon ( lanciano.html; Please pass this article on to someone you know who needs it! God Bless You, Fr. John Congratulations Father John on the 2nd Anniversary of your Priestly Ordination June 7! Thank you for all the special things you do for us at Divine Child and for your great devotion in serving out your vocation. May God bless you abundantly with his grace and may our Blessed Mother Mary keep you safe. What is this? The Vocations Chalice Kit is a way to involve parish households to pray for vocations. How does it work? The Vocations Chalice Kit is located in the Vestry of the Gathering Room in the Church, next to the Ushers Room. Any Divine Child family can sign it out at go/8050a45aba82ca20-church, take it home for a week and put it in a place of honor. Each day the household will pray for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life. There are suggested prayers within the kit. Families that are signed up can pick up the Kit after 9:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday. Please return the kit prior to 9:30 a.m. Mass the following week. It s that easy! Questions? Please call the Rectory Office for details at

The Divine Child Parish Book Group's next selection The Second Greatest Story Ever Told written by Fr. Michael Gaitley Building on the prophetic voices of Margaret Mary Alacoque, Thérèse of Lisieux, Maximilian Kolbe, and Faustina Kowalska, The Second Greatest Story Ever Told is more than a historical account of the Great Mercy Pope. This book expounds on the profound connection between Divine Mercy and Marian consecration. It serves as an inspiration for all those who desire to bear witness to the mercy of God, focused on Christ and formed by Mary. Now is the time to make John Paul s story your own. 6 Page 6 Music Matters by Matt Simpson Church of the Divine Child, Dearborn, Michigan Come to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament Brothers and sisters in Christ, heads up! Beginning in July, we will start praying the final piece of the Mass of St. Ralph Sherwin: the Gloria. This particular part of the Mass Ordinary has been waiting quietly under the front inside covers of our 2016 edition Breaking Bread missalettes for over half a year! Now that we have learned and memorized the other portions of this plainchant setting of the Mass Ordinary (Kyrie, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei), the time is ripe for completing the entire Mass setting by undertaking the Gloria! In order that everyone has access to thorough preparation, we are approaching this final mass part via two avenues. One of them is the online rehearsal video and score found on the parish website. Here is the direct address - churchofthedivinechild.org/ministries/music-ministry/ The video found on the music ministry page features the notes, text, and the voice of the composer, Jeff Ostrowski, guiding us through the Gloria. This will helpful on a practical level giving us an introduction to the combination of text and tune. As a side note, I had the privilege of meeting, praying and learning with Mr. Jeff Ostrowski over the Memorial Day weekend at a sacred music symposium his organization hosted in Los Angeles. Details to come: know that it was a musically stimulating and a spiritually fruitful experience! If you want to access a treasury on sacred music I highly recommend the website of Corpus Christi Watershed. Mr. Ostrowski and the people at CCW are doing great work in our time for the Catholic Church! Back to the Gloria: The second way through which we will become familiar with the Gloria is by rehearsing it live in church prior to the celebration of the Holy Masses throughout June. With the coming of July, we will implement the change officially! This new piece of sung prayer will require effort and sacrifice on our part. I ask that you be open to this great chant of praise. Let the joy and the brilliance of God found in the text permeate your own soul these next weeks as we pray through the jubilant words of the Gloria. We sing this weekend Psalm 30, praising the Lord for his saving aid, his abundant mercy, and his transforming grace - the Gloria perfectly distills all these acclamations to God! Matt How can I spend my time in Adoration? Consecrate yourself to the sacred hearts of Jesus and Mary. Thirty Three Days to Morning Glory by Michael Gaitley is a simple book to prepare for a consecration. Please visit our Lord in our chapel any day or time or come to Tuesday Exposition in the church from 9am to 7pm. For inquiries, please call PRAISE & WORSHIP AND INTERCESSORY PRAYER Tuesdays from 7:30pm - 8:30pm in the Church following Our Lady of Perpetual Help Novena You are invited to Praise and Worship and Intercessory Prayer with our Prayer Team. Experience the power of the Holy Spirit through this vital form of prayer. What is intercession? Most simply put, it is praying for others. Please pray about joining this wonderful ministry or just come try it out on a Tuesday evening. Most intercessors experience great joy, peace and intimacy with the Lord. Weekly Holy Hour of Reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Every Friday at 3pm in the Adoration Chapel Contact Tim at or tabailey@mac.com. Please join us! Please visit the Lighthouse Catholic Media Stand located in the Gathering Room. Religious CD s and books are available for a minimal fee. (Depositing this fee in the stand, helps keep this program going) Here is a sample of what you can expect to see: Pornography has become pervasive in our culture - a true plague, infecting nearly every corner of our society. Its disastrous effects are seen in sexual addiction, ruined marriages, and shattered lives. Jeff Cavins notes that many men struggle with pornography. With great insight, he shows how we can fight pornography's devastating influence and chart a course to true Christian purity.
