The first reading from Acts, written by Luke, describes in powerful terms a strong, driving wind coming and tongues of fire appearing. The Gospel from John is quite the opposite. We hear gentler terms used as Jesus appears to the apostles saying, "Peace be with you," breathing the Holy Spirit upon them. What we can take away from this contrast is that both qualities characterize the disciple who has received the gift of the Holy Spirit. On the one hand, the Holy Spirit empowers us, giving us the strength we need to live as children of God, especially as we help those in need. On the other hand, the Spirit provides the gentleness required to love one another with patience and compassion, as Jesus did. May the peace of Christ be with you. 3 PENTECOST SUNDAY MAY 15, 2016 Our Lady of Mercy Happenings Father Justin will be on vacation from Sunday, May 15th through Monday, May 30th. Father Eugene will be here filling in for Father Justin during that time. Coffee Hour follows the 10:30am Mass today! Stop by for coffee, refreshments and fellowship! The Mercedarian Third Order will have a monthly meeting on Monday, May 23 rd at 7:00pm in the Parish Library. If anyone is interested in joining the Mercedarian Third Order, please attend this meeting. Those with questions should contact Gary at All Babies Cherished Baby Bottle Drive has begun. Please fill up the baby bottles with loose change and return to the church or parish office. This collection will continue through Father s Day, June 19th. Get your tickets for the Third Annual Fruit of the Vine Wine Tasting Fun Raiser, which will be on Saturday, May 21st, 2016 from 6:00 9:00 pm in the Parish Center. The wine tasting features premium Finger Lakes wines hand-crafted by O-Neh-Da and Eagle Crest Vineyards from Hemlock Lake in New York. For tickets and more information please call the Parish Office at Every Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. the Mercedarian Third Order prays the Rosary for the end of abortion, world peace and the sick or distressed of our parish. Everyone is invited to participate. Eucharistic Adoration continues every Thursday at the Our Lady of Mercy and will open after the 8:00 am Mass and close at 6:30 pm with Evening Prayer and Benediction. Please take a moment to stop in the Church during adoration and spend some time in prayer. All men of the parish are invited. Please sign-up at the rear of the church. The Holy Name Society requests that those attending bring a dish or dessert to pass. The Holy Name Society will continue selling Chicken BBQ dinners for take out from Alex's Place in Batavia. Please purchase your tickets from any Holy Name Society member and enjoy a Chicken BBQ Take Out! Tickets are $10.00 each and consist of chicken, coleslaw, roll and potatoes. Call approximately twenty minutes before pick-up at Alex's side entrance for your take out dinners. Tickets are valid until April 11, For more information, contact Ted Darocha at or any member of the Holy Name Society. Holy Name Scholarship application forms are now available to applicants on the table at the rear of the church. These applications must be returned to Mr. Larry Senf no later than Monday, May 30th. The Ladies of Charity will hold their banquet at Stone s Restaurant at 6120 Buffalo Road in Churchville on Monday, June 13th at 6:00pm. Those interested in attending are asked to call Barb Stein at Coffee Hour is scheduled Saturday, May 14th following the 5:00pm Mass. Make plans to stop by for some coffee and fellowship! Recycled Teens will meet on May 19th at 9:00am Mass. Father Michael Donovan will be our guest speaker. Lunch will follow at the LeRoy Country Club. A sign-up sheet is in the back of the Church. Join us for an interesting discussion whether or not you get to read the book. Bring recommendations for titles of books you would like to have our group read in the coming months ahead.
