Please call the parish office. Sacrament of Marriage Common policy of the Archdiocese of Newark asks that arrangements be made one year in advance. Engaged couples must call to make an appointment to speak to a priest. Sacrament of Baptism Parents should register for the Baptism Preparation Program at the rectory...even before the baby is born! Catechumenate The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the process by which adults (and children who have reached the age of reason) are prepared to receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist. If you, or someone you know, would like to inquire about becoming a Catholic, please call the parish office. Ministry to the Sick and Homebound The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is available to be celebrated with anyone in need. Please do not wait until death is imminent to contact the parish regarding an ill family member. Eucharistic Ministers and others serve our community by visiting and bringing Communion to the sick and homebound. Please call the parish office if you wish such a visit. God s Plan for Giving - Tithing Tithing is God s plan to support His Church. Full tithing means 10% of gross income to God. We ask half of this, or 5%, for your parish Church. Reposition begins at 7:00pm. Please consider spending time with Jesus in Adoration. Parish Office Hours On Fridays Only For the months of July and August, the parish office will close at 3:00 PM. We ask parishioners to make a note of this change. If you normally would need to get keys, etc., at the parish office after 6:00 PM on a Friday, please know that you will have to come earlier during these couple of months.

3 SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JULY 24, 2016 Next month, the world will look to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil as the Summer Olympics begin. But before this great international competition begins, the US Junior Olympic Track and Field competition will be held in Sacramento, CA from July 25th to July 31st. Each year, nearly 70,000 young athletes compete to earn the privilege to be part of this great event knowing that many of them will go on to be future Olympians. This year, two young athletes from Dumont will be part of the Junior Olympic Track and Field competition. Dino Vasilakis, age 9, will compete in boys Shot Put and Christopher Graham, age 16 and a member of our parish; will compete in 2,000 meter Steeple Chase. I know you join me in congratulating these fine young athletes in all they have accomplished and that we wish them good luck as they head to Sacramento. It is only with the support of a strong family and a strong community that youngster can be the best they can be. As a community, we need to encourage and support all the young boys and girls who strive to excel whether it is in athletics, the art, or academia. The boys and girls on Dumont need to know how proud we are of them and all that they accomplish. Fr. Carey Prayer for Peace Spirit of Life, May we see the value of Life. Hackensack Walk-in Shelter Many thanks to all the parishioners who donated home cooked meals for the guests at the Hackensack Walk-in shelter on July 6th. Over 110 people were treated to a variety of delicious food. A special thank you to all those who coordinated and served the food at the shelter. Candlelight Vigil for Peace & Unity In light of the recent tragic events, Dumont is having a Candlelight Vigil for Peace and Unity on Monday, July 25, 9:00PM at Veterans Memorial Park, Dumont, NJ.

We hope that they will always know how important what they do for God and for us truly is. Even though they are still young, they can give us a wonderful example to follow. I made my bed. I helped someone. I cleaned. Daily, may we renew with You our small part of the world by allowing Your will to be accomplished in and through us. Help us to trust in Your love for us and to grow in our fidelity and relationship with You. We thank You for the trust You place in us as stewards of our personal gifts. May the Holy Spirit guide us in placing our time, talent and treasure at the service of each other so that together we may faithfully witness the Christian message and thus become your holy people. New Parent Orientation Meetings Are you new to St. Mary s or do you know of any new families for our Religious Education programs? Parents who are new to our programs should call or to set up an appointment at the PACT/Religious Education office. This coming Fall we will be in need of catechists and volunteers for our Tuesday after school, Monday evening, and Sunday morning programs. There will also be a Pro-Life speaker from Several Sources, coinciding with a "babyshower" collection drive hosted by the Columbiette Auxiliary to help Several Sources and other pregnancy centers. 6 ST. MARY S DUMONT Thank you to the 49 children who came to our Cave Quest Following Jesus the Light of the World Vacation Bible School. The children donated coins to help poverty stricken children in the DR Congo in Africa. The coins totaled $224.48!! Approximately 75 backpacks will be purchased by Eli International for these children to attend school. We are very proud of all our children for their generosity. A very special thank you to the over 40 teen and adult volunteers who helped make Cave Quest a success. We are very grateful to you all for you sharing your time and talent with our wonderful children. Thank you, Mary Auriti and Anne Marie Bishopp

7 SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JULY 24, 2016 Save the Date! Feast of St. Mary of the Assumption In honor of the feast our Patroness, St. Mary of the Assumption, we will have a 9-day novena beginning on Saturday August 6, following the 8:30 a.m. Mass. The Novena will go until August 14. On Sunday, August 7 and 14, the novena will be prayed following the 10:00 a.m. and after the 8:30 a.m. Mass on Saturday, August 13. We invite and encourage all of our parishioners to come to the 7:30PM Mass on Monday, August 15 and to ask the prayers of Mary, the mother of the Lord and our patroness, to bless St. Mary s and to keep all of our families in her loving care. We will have an ice cream social following the 7:30 p.m. Mass. Please call the parish office to let us know if you re planning to attend the ice cream social.
