3 TWENTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME AUGUST 14, 2016 Last week, our parish began a special Novena that will end tomorrow as we celebrate our patronal feast; the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This Novena demonstrates our devotion to Mary and our trust that she will always intercede on behalf of her children. Our parish is simply named St. Mary and Our Blessed Mother is known by so many names. If anyone has any question as to why Our Lady of the Assumption was chosen as a patronal feast, they would only have to look at the large statue behind the altar in the lower church; a statue that was in the original St. Mary s Church. This magnificent statue of Our Blessed Mother represents the heritage of our parish and also gives us our patronal feast. The feast of the Assumption is all about hope. Mary, the only human conceived without the stain of original sin, was assumed body and soul into the glory of heaven. In our profession of faith, we state that we believe that at the end of time, in the resurrection of the dead, all those souls that have been saved through the mercy of God will be reunited with the body they left in this world. Mary is the first to share in this promise. It is our hope that in God s love, we will share in this eternal glory. Where Mary has gone, we all hope to follow. She leads us by her example, she intercedes for our needs and she mediates the love of her son. We strive, as best we can, we pray as best we can, we hope as best we can and we trust. We trust in Our Father s Love and in a Mother s pray. Fr. Carey Join Us! Feast of St. Mary of the Assumption In honor of the feast of our Patroness, St. Mary of the Assumption, we invite and encourage all of our parishioners to come to the 7:30 p. m. Mass on Monday, August 15 and to ask the prayers of Mary, the mother of the Lord and our patroness, to bless St. Mary s and to keep all of our families in her loving care. We will have an ice cream social following the 7:30 p.m. Mass. Please call the parish office to let us know if you re planning to attend the ice cream social. Prayer for Peace Spirit of Life, May we see the value of Life. Spirit of Hope, May we renew our hope in you. Spirit of Peace, May we find peace in your love, and love each other enough to bring your peace to our world. Amen

We hope that they will always know how important what they do for God and for us truly is. Even though they are still young, they can give us a wonderful example to follow. I helped someone. I said my prayers. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Stewardship Prayer Dear Lord, O Divine Giver of all gifts, grant us the daily graces we need to follow closely in the footsteps of Jesus in the way we live out our lives and make use of our gifts. Daily, may we renew with You our small part of the world by allowing Your will to be accomplished in and through us. Help us to trust in Your love for us and to grow in our fidelity and relationship with You. We thank You for the trust You place in us as stewards of our personal gifts. May the Holy Spirit guide us in placing our time, talent and treasure at the service of each other so that together we may faithfully witness the Christian message and thus become your holy people. Amen.
