2 MESSAGE FROM THE PASTOR Dear Parishioners and Extended Family Members, Praised be Jesus Christ!! As I write you, I am preparing to go on vacation. One of the ways of preparing is making sure appropriate coverage is in place. Because of the weekly Mass schedule, Fr. Gregory will be chipping in on his days off to help cover it. At St. Jude s, our collaborative is fortunate that Father Robert Rivard makes himself so available to help cover Friday and weekend Masses and is willing to step up when Fr. Gregory or I are away. We are indeed blessed in this way. At St. Edward the Confessor, the La Salette Fathers have offered their assistance with the weekend Mass schedule. Fr. Thomas Huhn will be celebrating the Masses at St. Edward s for this weekend and next weekend. I am very grateful for his and the La Salette Fathers willingness to help with the weekend Mass schedule in my absence. I ask that you give Father Huhn a warm welcome and share your appreciation with him. On July 25, we celebrate the Apostle James. This one is referred to as James the Greater, not to be confused with the Apostle James the Lesser, son of Alphaeus of Cleophas. This James is the son of Zebedee. He is referred to as the Greater because he was called by Jesus before the James the Lesser. We know two facts about James from Sacred Scripture. The first is that, along with his brother John the Evangelist, James was known as a Son of Thunder. He wanted once to call down fire upon a town that would not accept Jesus as a guest during his travels. He (or his mom, depending which Gospel you read) also wanted to sit along with his brother at Jesus left and right in the Kingdom of Heaven. Pretty brash! The second fact we know is that James was the first of the 12 Apostles to be martyred. This occurred in the city of Jerusalem. It was because of James death that the Apostles decided to leave the city and be missionaries of the Good News to the ends of the world rather than spending their time in hiding. What is gratifying is that Jesus called James, demeanor and all, to preach and give witness. That brashness of his was used as a tool to profess his faith in Jesus Christ. He also gave his life so completely to Christ that his blood watered the seeds of faith of the newly baptized since his witness proclaimed, this belief is worth dying for. Saint James, pray for us! From This Week in Church Signs: I wish Noah swatted those two mosquitoes. Gratefully yours in Christ, Fr. Steve St. Jude Offertory July 15, 2018: $ 4,909 St. Edward Offertory July 15, 2018: $ 5,460 MASS INTENTIONS ST.JUDE PARISH Sun July 22: 7:30 Parishioners of St. Jude Sat July 28: 4:00 Jean and Raymond Zrike ST. Please enter the names in the binder in order that prayers may be offered for your loved ones. July 22 ~ Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time The disciples return to tell Jesus about the work he had sent them to do. Take a few moments today to look back over the past week to those times when you, like the disciples, did works of charity or mercy. Offer a prayer of gratitude to God for those times you spoke a healing word, or offered comfort to a person in their loss, or welcomed a newcomer to your parish. Ask for the grace to respond to the opportunities that will arise for you this week. LIVE THE LITURGY - INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK The many images we have of God help frame our relationship with Him. Have we ever imagined Jesus so deeply moved with emotion and engulfed with pity for us? We often are sheep without a shepherd who are lured by the emptiness of worldly attractions and superficial desires. We become lost. God, in the depth of His being, is deeply moved by our pain, loneliness, and heartache. God does not judge or condemn. He loves and is mercy itself. He knows firsthand the pain that comes with being lost and alone and desires to teach us about His merciful love. Do we want to be taught? Listen to God's word and be open to God's presence in the Eucharist. Fr. Steve has NEW addresses for both parishes (please do not use the gmail address for him as account has been closed) St. Edward: frsteve1992ed@icloud.com St. Jude: frsteve1992jude@icloud.com Its time for the 8 th Annual St Edward Golf Tournament The planning has already begun for the 2018 St Edward Golf Tournament and we welcome NEW people (men and women), NEW ideas and NEW items to the Raffles, the ONLINE Silent Auction and the LIVE Auction!!! 4 Parish News Page 4 CATHOLIC QUOTES - WORDS TO INSPIRE THE FAITHFUL With God, every moment is the moment of beginning again. -Catherine Doherty Weekly Opportunity for Special Occasions and Memorials at St. Jude Parish You can help beautify our Sanctuary at St. Jude Parish by donating flowers in memory of a loved one, in thanksgiving for a birthday, anniversary or special event. We would be happy to make arrangements for flowers on a particular weekend. The name of the person or family making such donations of flowers for a particular weekend would also be noted in our bulletin. Please contact: Deb Bergerson Please consider joining a team of parishioners providing meals to people at the Haley House shelter in Boston. Are you Called to Serve? St Jude and St Edward are blessed with all those who volunteer their time to enrich our communities. Our Church has been teaching that those who come together for liturgy cannot simply be spectators; we are asked to fully participate in the liturgy, consciously and actively. Active participation means listening carefully, responding meaningfully, singing and allowing ourselves to be nourished by the Eucharist. Active participation also means that we are Christ to one another in the mass. By welcoming as ushers, by proclaiming the word as Lector, and by sharing communion as Eucharistic ministers, liturgical ministers are Christ present sacramentally. Everyone who is baptized has Christ s imprint and so is worthy of being a liturgical minister. We invite folks to pray about serving as an usher, Eucharistic minister or a lector. We offer training and support. If this speaks to you, please contact Mary or cell We have 3 teams of volunteers that collaborate to supply a monthly meal of Chili, salad, fresh fruit and juice. Each team donates four times per year and we currently need a volunteer to provide fresh fruit for 15. It s a simple way to make a difference. Just deliver the specified donation to the home of a Medfield driver on the first Sunday morning of February, May, August and November. If you would like to help with this ministry (or be put on the waiting list for future needs) please call Martha Festa ( ). Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults RCIA Are you interested in becoming Catholic or just curious about the Catholic faith? MOVING? Please let the parish office know if you have moved or have a change of address. Thank you :) Would you like to explore questions about God and the Church? Or, are you a baptized adult seeking full initiation through Holy Communion and Confirmation? If so, RCIA is for you! RCIA is the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. It culminates in full membership in the Church through the Sacraments, but is also an open-ended process of inquiry, learning, and preparation. No commitment is necessary! Come, meet experienced Catholics and other inquirers in a friendly small-group setting, and see where this journey can take you. If you are interested or know someone who might be, please contact Mary Sheedy at msheedy.stedstjude@gmail.com or St. Jude at MEDFIELD FOOD CUPBOARD Food Cupboard currently has shortage of Juice they need both large bottles and juice box sizes. Other needs: Kid Friendly cereal (example: Cinnamon Toast Crunch), lunch size boxes of raisins, peanut butter, jam, canned pasta and sauce, bags of rice, tuna (in water preferred), cookies/crackers/salty snacks. (Please leave your donations in the boxes provided in the coat closet area). As always, any donations are greatly appreciated. Members of One Family Knitters group meet on Thursday mornings in the lower rectory of St. Edward at 9:30am. Knitting for charity takes place at the meetings and also at home. Materials are provided from donations (can be left in church library). Knitting is a great way to use extra time to create something for those less fortunate. We welcome visitors, no time commitment necessary.

NEW LIFE HOME REFURNISHING (NewLifeHR.org) depends on the generosity of others to supply families in need with gently used furniture, appliances and household goods. We have recently experienced a surge in the number of referred households, and, at the same time, a drop in donations over the winter due to inclement weather. Although we are in need of all household items, we are especially in need of couches and dressers or other storage pieces with drawers. Donations can be dropped off on Saturdays between 9 and 11:30 at the warehouse at 102 Elm Street in Walpole. New Life can also be scheduled to do a pickup for more than one large furniture item, but please note, we usually schedule out two weeks in advance. Visit newlifehr.org and click on Donate" to request a time for a furniture pickup. Please also see our website for the items we do and do not take.
