TIMOTHY, my son, you have observed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness, my persecutions, my sufferings, what befell me at Antioch, at lconion, and at Lystra, what persecutions I endured; yet from them all the Lord rescued me. Indeed all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil men and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceivers and deceived. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week, I give tithes of all that I get.' But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner!' I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted." Please information to office@saintsophiachurch.org. Thank you. Elaine Piligian To Parents of Young Children: In case you are not aware, our church has a Cry/Bride Room in the Narthex. For those parents whose young children might understandably get fussy during a service, please feel free to take your youngster into that room for a short while. (There is a closed circuit TV showing the service in the room as well as a bathroom/changing station). The intention is NOT to relegate you to another room; rather, this will enable you to attend to your child in a quiet environment before bringing him/her back into the church. IOCC Health Care Kits: Several weeks ago our St. Sophia GOYA members assembled personal Hygiene Kits for people in need. This is a special International Orthodox Christian Charity (IOCC) program to help people around the world who lack even the basics. These assistance packages can make a big difference for someone. The kits include basic materials such as soap, Band-Aids, wash cloths, toothbrushes, nail files, etc. Thank you to everyone who made donations to sponsor one or more of these kits. Even though the kits have already been assembled and shipped, it is not too late to make a donation. If you have any questions, please speak to George Prieston or Tom Cox. Matthew "Matt" Stolarczyk - (215) mattstolarczyk@cs.com -- Parenting Retreat: On Saturday, March 9 th, St. Nicholas Cathedral in Bethlehem, PA, is sponsoring an Orthodox Christian Parenting Retreat (see insert). Dr. Philip Mamalakis, with his wife Georgia and seven children, lives in Boston, Massachusetts, where he is the Assistant Professor of Pastoral Care at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology. Dr. Mamalakis directs the field education program and teaches classes on pastoral care, marriage and family, grief, death and dying, and topics related to pastoral counseling. He has a private practice in Newton, Massachusetts, where he works with individuals, couples, and families. Dr. Mamalakis has an M.Div. from Holy Cross and a Ph.D. from Purdue University in child development and family studies, specializing in marriage and family therapy. He has been offering parenting courses and writing on parenting for 21 years. He enjoys leading seminars and retreats on intimacy, relationships, marriage, parenting, and family life as well as on Orthodoxy and psychology. Publications include: Parenting Toward the Kingdom. Saturday of Souls: The first Saturday of Souls is Saturday, March 2 nd. Forms for the names of the departed are available at the Pangari (a form is also enclosed). Please submit your form to the Parish Office as soon as possible. Please remember that the names you submit are read on all three Saturdays. Please PRINT CLEARLY, AND ONLY BAPTISMAL FIRST NAMES ARE NECESSARY. Readers for Salutations to the Theotokos: The first Salutations to the Theotokos are on Friday evening, March 15 th. We need readers for the English and Greek for that Friday and the following four Fridays. If you are interested in reading, please call Elaine in the Parish office to put your name on the list. Also, if you are interested in bringing flowers and decorating the icon of the Panagia on one of the Fridays, please call Elaine as well to let us know which Friday you are choosing. Anyone wishing to sponsor a vigil candle should sign up at the Pangari. (Each vigil candle lasts one week). Each week a new vigil candle will be placed next to the icon of St. Nicholas until the construction of St. Nicholas Shrine has been completed. The asking donation is $10. Memorial Service: This morning s memorial is being chanted for the soul of His Grace Bishop Athanasios Akunda (40 days), beloved classmate and friend of Fr. Peter and Presvytera Katherine. May his memory be eternal. Welcome AHEPA Chapter 445 Thermopylae: Along with Lou and Donna Christou, AHEPA member Demitri Constantinidis will hold a brief Track & Fields awards ceremony today immediately following the Divine Liturgy. The youngsters who are receiving awards are: Zachary Christou, Aidan Good, Despina Kourtidis and Petrina Papadimitriou. Coffee Hour: Thank you to AHEPA Chapter 445 Thermopylae and Donna and Lou Christou for sponsoring this morning s coffee hour. Girl Scout Cookies: It s that wonderful time of year again for our local Girl Scout Troops to sell their delicious cookies! Please support our local Girl Scouts that belong to our parish. Don t delay the cookies will only be here until March 3 rd. Senior Citizen Ministry: St. Sophia s Senior Parea is open to all senior citizens of the community. The next meeting will take place in the Cultural Center on Thursday, February 21 st. PTO BINGO! The St. Sophia PTO Mardis Gras BINGO event will be this Saturday, February 23, 2019, at 12 noon. Come enjoy food, fun, and fellowship at the Cultural Center while we play for prizes and raffles! The snow date is 2/24/19 following the Divine Liturgy. See insert for details.

5 Kolyva Class Friday, March 1 st : The class on how to prepare Kolyva will be offered so that the tradition can live on through the generations. This class is open to all, and no experience is necessary. All materials will be provided except for a small bowl that holds about 2 cups of kolyva. Participants will learn how to prepare the dish for the 1 st Saturday of Souls on Saturday, March 2 nd. The class will be offered from 6-8 pm and will be led by Maria Tsipras. The cost to participate in the class is only $10. Please contact Maria with questions. RSVP by phone or tsipras@verizon.net. The deadline to sign up is February 23 rd. Personal Care Product Drive: During the month of February we will be collecting personal care products to be brought to the Daily Bread Community Food Pantry in Collegeville. In addition to providing emergency food for all those it serves, it aims to provide personal care products not covered by Food Stamps. Please see the enclosed flyer for a listing of products that we are collecting. Donations are to be placed in the bins in the lobby of the Cultural Center.
