3 Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord Domingo de Pascua de la Resurrección 1 Abril de 2018 April 1, 2018 Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord The first light of Easter dawn had begun to creep over the horizon. The steadfast women from Friday's gory events are returning again to the body of their Lord. "Who will roll back the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?" How quickly we return to mundane concerns and how thoroughly God wants to surprise us! Imagine the utter shock upon seeing the stone rolled away, the tomb empty, and a stranger clothed in light proclaiming the impossible. "You seek Jesus of Nazareth, the crucified. He has been raised; he is not here." He is risen indeed and the world will never be the same. We know from other Gospel passages that Mary Magdalene made haste to the disciples to proclaim the Good News. We know that Peter and John rushed to the tomb to see for themselves. We know that the wonder and awe of the Resurrection permeated the lives of the apostles until their own dying day. Can we comprehend the utterly world-changing nature of this surprise? The historical reanimation of a dead man is of no real value to us. But we know that Easter Sunday is so much more. By the Resurrection of Jesus, life has triumphed over death for us all. The gates of heaven are opened and the treasury of graces is poured out upon the here and now. This Resurrection Day, let us draw near, amazed yet unafraid, to the risen Christ. Let us recall the words of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, "Jesus is not a character from the past. He lives, and he walks before us as one who is alive, he calls us to follow him, the living one, and in this way to discover for ourselves the path of life" (Easter Vigil, April 15, 2006). Domingo de Pascua de la Resurrección Ha resucitado, no está aquí. Igual que las mujeres del Evangelio, vamos de la tumba vacía, de la muerte a la vida. Aun más allá, de encontrando vida, debemos ser esa vida. Se puede ser esa vida, porque Cristo Resucitado vive en nosotros, creciendo en nuestros valores y en nuestras acciones. Por eso, está es la nueva era de ser discípulos misioneros de Jesucristo. Aleluya! Qué nos falta para ser nueva vida? Ser como las mujeres a pesar de su miedo creyeron lo que escucharon. "No se asusten. Si ustedes buscan a Jesús Nazareno, el crucificad, no está aquí, ha resucitado". (Marcos 16:6). Ahí, precisamente esta el secreto de este Domingo de Pascua. Escuchar y creer, e ir a anunciar el acontecimiento a la familia y amigos. Estamos viviendo un tiempo de muchos miedos, las noticias que escuchamos y vemos por los medios de comunicación no son alentadoras, el desanimo social es contundente. Pero el que escoge creer en la presencia de Cristo Resucitado --- es guiado por él a continuar con sus buenos valores y acciones. El punto es no caer en desánimos. Las mujeres buscaban un cadáver, pero encontraron una misión muy distinta, unida a la vida no a la muerte. Ellas, de ser mujeres miedosas se han convertido a través de los tiempos en mujeres de la Pascua. Testigos vivos de Jesús! Quizá, se piense por fin se ha llegado al final. Pero en realidad estamos al principio. Recordemos, que, todo empezó en Galilea con Jesús de Nazaret. Este es el compromiso ser testigos y dar testimonio del Resucitado. The first $200 check is from Sacred Heart Catholic Church Knights of Columbus (KC) Council #1908. The second $200 check is from St. Thomas Catholic Church KC Council # Both councils are indebted for the positive work DREAM plays in our day to day lives. Both Councils assisted with DREAM's drug and alcohol prevention, after-school tutoring program, and curricula-based programs to teach young people about the negative effect of how harmful drugs are to their lives. DREAM has been an integral player in keeping drugs and alcohol out of the reach of children, their siblings, and their families in the Hattiesburg area.
