2 PAGE 2 PARISH BULLETIN JUNE 13, 2010 People sometimes allow their sins to prevent them from drawing close to the Lord. They think of themselves as sinners who are not w orthy to come to the Lord. In today s Gospel w e see a sinful w oman draw ing close to Jesus w ith love and trust. Jesus knew w ell that the woman w as a sinner, but he saw that she was seeking forgiveness and healing. He saw WEEKLY MEDITATION for the 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time that she w as thirsting to be seen as a person and not as an object. By graciously accepting her humble and loving service as she washed his feet, Jesus helped her to believe in her w orthiness to approach the Lord and receive forgiveness. We ourselves have to learn to see the goodness in one another and affirm that, as Jesus did w ith the w oman s humble service. If w e look for the darkness in someone, w e w ill surely find it. Jesus saw the goodness in the woman, and magnified it. We too can see some goodness in every person and w ith God s strength and w isdom magnify it. WISDOM S CORNER June is Sacred Heart Month And the Year for Priests is concluding St. John Vianney, the patron saint of priests, often said that the meaning of the priesthood is the love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Priests are called to sacrifice themselves completely, out of love for the people they serve. June is the month dedicated to the Sacred Heart. It is also marks the closing of the Year for Priests. Let us continue to pray for all our priests. Lord, fill their hearts with enlightened zeal That all strive to become perfect as our Heavenly Father is perfect, That Holy Mass be continually offered for the life and needs of the world, That our Eucharistic Lord be accessible and lovingly adored, That the Gospel be proclaimed tirelessly, free from error, That in the sacramental absolution they provide, we find our peace and joy, That all human life be protected and defended as sacred, That new vocations heed God s call to lead the Church of the future, That they minister worthily and faithfully. ****************** THOUGHT OF THE WEEK Life is the first gift. Love is the second. Forgiveness is the third. Dear friends, Oil is leaking every where. Nobody really knows how much, nor for how long. I m surprised, PASTOR S DESK because it s all about m oney. It is thought that the world and its events are under control. I don t think so. I watch TV, especially news programs. They look like Blackhawks and Flyers fan clubs. There re all routing for their own sides, yet they claim to be telling us about objective positions, objective journalism, objective politics. Hmmph, it makes me laugh out loud. Check the Internet. Idiots are given fantastic platforms, stages, microphones and an arena in which to exercise their own mental acrobatics without any responsibility, of course. And they expect to be trusted and believed. Who is crazy? Talk to parents who have kids under 16 years of age and then a sk y ourself who seems m ore confu sed the parents or the kids? I m afraid it s the parents, because the kids know what they want. After all the analyses by various factions of people, you can view our society however you please. You can regard the majority to be crazy, with a minority of smart and reasonable people, or you can regard the majority as made up of good people, with a minority of crazy ones. You can see whatever you want. Meanwhile, the question remains: With what kind of eyes do you look at society? If y our ey es do not have the spiritual dimension, then everything is pitch-black and crazy. Hope is far away and depression is so deep that all the professionals in the world cannot heal it. Our special guest this year is Drew Mariani, the awardwinning well-listened-to national talk show host on Relevant Radio. You are warmly invited to participate in this special celebration. More info to come. Special Prayer Time takes place each Monday at 7 p.m. in our church when a group gathers to say rosaries. All are welcome! Santa Lucia Family Fest will be held on Saturday, July 24, from noon to 10 p.m. on 30th & Wells. Invite & friends for fun & good times with food, music, games and more. St. Jerome s Pilgrimage to the Holy Land St. Jerome Parish is heading towards its 100th anniversary in As a spiritual preparation for this great celebration, our parish is going on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. This trip would take place during the first half of November 2011, which is 17 months from now. We will visit the most sacred places of our Catholic faith: Bethlehem, Nazareth, Capernaum, Jerusalem, Galilee, and others. The cost of the trip will be about $3,000.00, for approximately 10 days. The price and dates will be confirmed as soon as we know the details of the trip. Included in the cost are the airfare, hotel accommodations, buses, daily breakfast and dinner, and all the sights of the Holy Land. This is a once-in-alifetime pilgrimage! All who are interested in making this special journey should notify us as soon as possible. CONGRATULATIONS to the Blackhawks team, their families and their devoted supporters! HAPPY ST. ANTHONY S DAY! Today, Sunday, June 13, is the traditional feast day of St. Anthony. Come celebrate with an evening Mass at the Croatian Franciscan Monastery in Hyde Park, at 4848 S. Ellis Ave. The entrance to the Monastery grounds is on 49th Street, between Ellis and Drexel. The outdoor Mass (in the Croatian language) begins at 7 p.m., followed by the blessing of children with relics of St. Anthony. Refreshments served afterward.
