6 Sit READINGS FROM HOLY SRIPTURE FIRST READING Isaiah 25:1-9 1 O LORD, you are my God; I will exalt you, I will praise your name; for you have done wonderful things, plans formed of old, faithful and sure. 2 For you have made the city a heap, the fortified city a ruin; the palace of aliens is a city no more, it will never be rebuilt. 3 Therefore strong peoples will glorify you; cities of ruthless nations will fear you. 4 For you have been a refuge to the poor, a refuge to the needy in their distress, a shelter from the rainstorm and a shade from the heat. When the blast of the ruthless was like a winter rainstorm, 5 the noise of aliens like heat in a dry place, you subdued the heat with the shade of clouds; the song of the ruthless was stilled. 6 On this mountain the LORD of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wines, of rich food filled with marrow, of well-aged wines strained clear. 7 And he will destroy on this mountain the shroud that is cast over all peoples, the sheet that is spread over all nations; 8 he will swallow up death forever. 10 APOSTLES REED With the whole church, let us confess our faith. I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus hrist, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. PRAYERS OF INTERESSION A Open to the gifts of the Holy Spirit, we pray for the church, the world, and all of God s creation. A brief silence. A You rejoice in your church, gracious God. Welcome your children to the table you have prepared and send us forth to share the saving mercy we meet in Jesus hrist. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great. A You rejoice in your good creation. 22 THINGS HAPPENING AT HRIST THE KING 500 YEARS OF REFORMATION The celebration month has begun! Want to know more about our Lutheran/Protestant history? ome and see. Tuesday evenings at 7pm we are showing a series of videos on the history of the Reformation and the planting of the Lutheran church in the United States. Sunday, October 29 th we will show the newest Reformation movie Luther at 5pm. All are open to the public, bring your friends and neighbors. ome and See: who are these Lutherans? TK PRESHOOL IE REAM SOIAL & ART SHOW Today, after the church service, we will have our Annual Ice ream Social and Preschool Art Show. Please come and visit the preschool as well as look at the creativity of our students on display along with enjoying ice cream with lots of toppings served by our Preschool Board and Teachers. Donations made to TK Preschool will go to our SOS Fund (Support Our Students, which helps provide scholarship money to families in need) as well as Lutheran Preschools damaged by Hurricane Harvey in Texas through the ELEA (Evangelical Lutheran Education Association). GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP A community support group for those who are grieving, facilitated by Pastor Don Voeks, ELA, will meet today, October 15, 3pm, in the Youth Room. All are welcome. JAZZ VESPERS The second monthly Jazz Vespers Service will be next Sunday, Oct. 22 nd, at 5pm. This is a classic vespers service in a newly composed style. ome at 4:45 to enjoy the trio prelude music. NEW MEMBER LASS Lutheran Questions, Lutheran Answers: A 3-week introduction for seekers and members, Sundays, 9am, in the Library, beginning on Nov. 5 th. If you are interested in membership, please talk to Pastor Dorothy. OUTREAH FOOD BARREL Are you aware that there is a barrel in the narthex for non-perishable food items and toiletries? All donations go to the King s Kindness Food Pantry of the Vineyard hurch. They distribute food every Thursday to people in our community in need. Thank you for your support with this outreach. OOKIE VOLUNTEERS There is a sign-up sheet on the kiosk for volunteers to help provide cookies for coffee fellowship following worship each Sunday. This ministry involves bringing 5-6 dozen cookies (do not need to be homemade), putting the cookies on trays, (available in the kitchen), and taking the cookies on a rolling cart into the Rainbow Room. When you have a prayer request you may either place a written prayer request in the Prayer Request Box, talk to Pastor Dorothy or contact Jeanne Durbetaki and the prayer chain will be activated.
