7 PRAYER OF THE DAY Almighty God, gracious Lord, we thank you that your Holy Spirit renews the church in every age. Pour out your Holy Spirit on your faithful people. Keep them steadfast in your word, protect and comfort them in times of trial, defend them against all enemies of the gospel, and bestow on the church your saving peace, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. Sit READINGS FROM HOLY SCRIPTURE FIRST READING Jeremiah 31: The days are surely coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah. 32 It will not be like the covenant that I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt a covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, says the LORD. 33 But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 34 No longer shall they teach one another, or say to each other, Know the LORD, for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, says the LORD; for I will forgive their iniquity, and remember their sin no more. SECOND READING Romans 3: Now we know that whatever the law says, it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced, and the whole world may be held accountable to God. 20 For no human being will be justified in his sight by deeds prescribed by the law, for through the law comes the knowledge of sin. 21 But now, apart from law, the righteousness of God has been disclosed, and is attested by the law and the prophets, 22 the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction, 23 since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God; 24 they are now justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God put forward as a sacrifice of atonement by his blood, effective through faith. He did this to show his righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over the sins previously committed; 26 it was to prove at the present time that he himself is righteous and that he justifies the one who has faith in Jesus. 27 Then what becomes of boasting? It is excluded. By what law? By that of works? No, but by the law of faith. 28 For we hold that a person is justified by faith apart from works prescribed by the law. Word of God, Word of life. 11 APOSTLES CREED With the whole church, let us confess our faith. I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. Shape us to live in the freedom Christ gives us and to welcome others into this way of life. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great. For what else do the people of God pray God our stronghold, the saints from every age gather around your throne. Help us to wait with patience and joy until that day when we too see you face to face. 21 THINGS HAPPENING AT CHRIST THE KING ON OUR WAY TO REFORMATION 500! In the bulletin today you will find an insert written by our Bishop, Dave Brauer-Rieke. You are invited to follow the bishop's Reformation Blog on Facebook (Oregon Synod ELCA page) or at Be in the know about what is coming up for the 500th Anniversary celebration of the Lutheran Reformation! COMMUNITY SERVICE OF PRAYER FOR NATIONAL UNITY AND RECONCILIATION Tigard Community Pastors are hosting a prayer service on election evening, November 8 at Christ the King Lutheran Church. Service begins at 6:30pm. Readings from scripture, prayer, candlelighting and music will lead us to the peace of God which surpasses human understanding. All are welcome, invite your neighbors and friends. All who have felt the sting of this political season, come, rest in God s mercy. ALL SAINTS SUNDAY IS NOVEMBER 6 TH On that day we celebrate the saints of God who have entered the church triumphant. Christ the King church will remember the saints in glory by lighting a candle and ringing a tone as we name each of our recently deceased loved ones. If there is someone you want to commemorate in this way, please submit to the church office by October 30th their name(s), your name and the relationship you have/had with that person. We will also be honoring our senior saints (80+) at a reception following the service. THANKS AND GIVING Our CTK family is thankful for the many blessings we receive daily and at this time of year we would like to share those blessings by giving to others. We will be partnering with The Vineyard Church in providing Thanksgiving baskets to 60 local families. We are asking our congregation to help out by providing pies for the baskets. There will be a sign-up sheet on the kiosk in the narthex. Please sign up and give the six dollars to Lorna Kautzky or Cathy Renken. Monies will be received until Sunday November 13 th. We give our thanks for your giving. Outreach Committee OUTREACH FOOD BARREL Are you aware that there is a barrel in the narthex for non-perishable food items? All donations go to the King s Kindness Food Pantry of the Vineyard Church. They distribute food every Thursday to people in our community in need. Thank you for your support with this outreach. THANKSGIVING SERVICE O Sing to the Lord a new song! A slightly new, or renewed worship experience for Christ the King. We will honor the National Day of Thanksgiving in worship on Wednesday, November 23 at 7pm. A simple service of praise and thanksgiving to start the holy season of Advent.

22 OUR SYMPATHY Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Gloria Holman who passed away Oct. 24, A memorial service was held in her honor at CTK last Thursday. COOKIE VOLUNTEERS There is a sign-up sheet on the kiosk for volunteers to help provide cookies for coffee fellowship following worship each Sunday. This ministry involves bringing 5-6 dozen cookies (do not need to be homemade), putting the cookies on trays, (available in the kitchen), and taking the cookies on a rolling cart into the Rainbow Room.
