3 Dear Parishioners and Friends, As we progress to the next phase in preparation for our Centennial celebration I would like to make you aware of several plans currently in progress. The first submission of centennial pavers has been made. One hundred sixty three pavers have been submitted by parishioners, former parishioners, and alumni. Eighty eight are 4 x 8 pavers and seventy five are 8 x 8 pavers. This will make for a very nice display in the grassy area between the church and the school. Pavers can still be ordered but we must ask for an increase in price. The company engraving the pavers gave us free shipping if we gave an order of 100 or more at one time. After this we will have to pay shipping charges which makes the pavers ordered from this point on, a little more expensive. Also, there is no guarantee that we would receive late orders from the company in time to be placed in the ground with our original order. The paver program was not used as a fund-raiser. The amount paid for each paver was enough to cover the cost. It was not our intention to make a profit on the pavers. Rather, we are doing all we can to keep costs low so that more people can participate in all of the events of the Centennial. The parish quilters have been working feverishly on a Centennial Quilt which will be formally presented to the parish and displayed in the church. The exact time for the presentation of the quilt is still uncertain, but we presume that it will be in the not too distant future. When the time arrives, we will announce the date and we will have a formal reception at a Sunday Mass. We owe a great deal of gratitude to the Quilters who have spent many, many hours designing and creating this quilt for our special occasion. Thank you, thank you, thank you. We look forward to their gift to the parish. A keepsake is being designed at this time. It will be a gift to all who attend the dinner on September 7 th at the Cedars. Be sure to mark your calendars for that date and also for the Mass with Archbishop Carlson the following Saturday, September 14 th. It s only 6 months away. Coming up the week after Easter will be the SMM Trivia Extravaganza. If you have not yet secured a table, please do so soon. The cost is certainly affordable gifts of canned goods for the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry. You may be surprised at how much or how little you know about our parish and its history, but you can be sure that you will go home with a wealth of knowledge beyond belief! It should be a night of great fun for all and a superb opportunity to visit with parishioners, former parishioners and alumni in attendance. GET YOUR TABLE NOW! God bless, Msgr. 4 Lenten Challenge Feed the Hungry! This week of Lent our greatest need is for peanut butter and jelly. We will still accept meals in a can, pasta and pasta sauce, at any other times as well. In preparation for the fourth week we will be looking to collect all varieties of soup. Please help us reach our goal of 600 items (or more) by the end of Lent. We are already very, very close. The second week we received 274 items The total for the two weeks is 404 Watch the progress of our parishioners 'generosity on the chart placed near the sanctuary. Each food basket that is colored in green represents 25 items donated. You will see a weekly total, a running total, and, at the end of Holy Week, a grand total. Thank you for your generosity! Donations may be brought to the weekend Masses, daily Masses, or to the rectory office. 6 Celebrating 100 years St. Mary Magdalen Centennial September 7, Memory submitted by parishioner Carmelina Mattera We will never forget our first St. Mary Magdalen Parish Parade. We had moved into our home in August of 1987 and Tony was only 9 months old the following May when we found out, quite unexpectantly that our home was on the parade route. Over the course of the years that Tony and Anna were in school, it was a high light of our year to gather the extended family on our front porch to watch Tony, Anna and all their friends and teachers walk past our home. Do you cling to what you have or do you generously share with others? How will you respond when God asks you what you have done with all the gifts He has given you?
