Thursdays: Divine Mercy, 7:00 p.m. Convent Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary (626) The following is from Nuestra Parroquia The Readings and their Message Acts 10:34A, The Acts of the Apostles is the second volume written by Luke the evangelist. It is not believed that the book is a history, but rather a narration of the growth of the church through the power of the Holy Spirit. Luke reflects the growth of the church throughout the Gentile world and considers it complete when the mission extends to Rome. It is believed that Luke wrote his book from oral tradition, rather than from the written one. Luke provides the church with arguments to deal with the Jews. The apostles were the representatives of the patriarchs who led the 12 tribes of Israel. The apostles continue the same tradition for the restoration of Israel; they gained converts to Jesus Christ. It is a book of consolation for a persecuted church. Colossians 3:1-4 The letter of Paul to the Colossians is written in the midst of the turmoil of Gnosticism, which threatened the church; according to this doctrine, the spirit is good and matter is evil; so the only way to reach God would be through a special knowledge and those who do not possess such knowledge would be trapped in their human and evil bodies. John 20:1-9 Two men are needed at the tomb because two witnesses were necessary to authenticate an event; and women were not acceptable witnesses, in those times. The cloths are considered to be proof of the resurrection, left on the floor suggesting a new reality. The body that was inside the cloths has simply dematerialized, leaving behind the cloths as if the body had evaporated. 3 Page 3 EASTER SUNDAY APRIL 16, 2017 My Dear Brothers and Sisters, On behalf of Father Chris, Father Jim, Father Thaddeus, Deacon Manuel, Seminarian Eman, our entire Parish and School Staff, the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, and myself, I wish you and your families a joyous and faith filled Easter Season. May the glory of the Risen Christ lift up our hearts. We congratulate and welcome all the adults, youth and children who are receiving the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist in this holy season. We are deeply grateful for those parish staff members and volunteers who work so hard in sacramental preparation. We thank Father Chris and the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) team, Deacon Manuel, Maria Montoya and Edgar from the Spanish RICA, Stephanie Ramos and the Religious Education team, Sister Miriam Mark and the school First Communion Team, Pearl Romero and the Children s Initiation team, Leticia Saucedo and the youth Confirmation team, and Carolyn Guzman, Deacon Manuel and Mrs. Luz Chavez, who prepare and celebrate our infant baptisms all year round. We are very grateful to all those who work so hard to make our parish liturgies beautiful. We thank our Altar Servers, Sacristans, Lectors, Ushers, Eucharistic Ministers, Cantors, Musicians and Choirs, as well as our Liturgy Committee chaired by John Hammerbacher and our Liturgical Environment Committee led by Karen Keller assisted by Maria Luisa Medina. Finally, we thank all those who contribute toward the beautiful flowers in our church this season, and we remember their deceased loved ones in a special way. As those early disciples rushed to the empty tomb, may we hurry to be witness to the Good News that Jesus lives among us and within us. The following prayer is from the USCCB. Holy Spirit, comforter of hearts, heal your people s wounds and transform brokenness into wholeness. Grant us courage and wisdom, humility and grace, to act with justice. Breathe wisdom into our prayers and labors. Grant that all harmed by abuse may find justice. We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen. 7 Page 7 DOMINGO DE PASCUA DE RESURRECCIÓN 16 DE ABRIL, 2017 Lo siguiente es de Nuestra Parroquia Las lecturas y su mensaje Hechos 10:34A, Los Hechos de los Apóstoles fue el segundo volumen escrito por el evangelista Lucas. No se supone que el libro constituya una historia, sino más bien la narración del crecimiento de la iglesia por el poder del Espíritu Santo. Lucas refleja el crecimiento de la iglesia por el mundo gentil y lo considera completo cuando la misión se extiende a Roma. Se cree que Lucas escribió su libro desde la tradición oral, más que la escrita. Lucas proporciona a la iglesia argumentos para tratar con los judíos. Los apóstoles eran representantes de los patriarcas que lideraban a las 12 tribus de Israel. Los apóstoles continúan la misma tradición para la restauración de Israel; ganan conversos a Jesucristo. Es un libro de consolación para una iglesia perseguida. Juan 20:1-9 Se necesitan dos hombres en la tumba, porque eran necesarios dos testigos para autentificar un acontecimiento; y las mujeres no eran testigos aceptables entonces. Se perciben los paños como prueba de la resurrección, dejados en el suelo sugiriendo una nueva realidad. El cuerpo que estaba en el sudario simplemente se ha desmaterializado, dejando los paños ahí como si el cuerpo se hubiera evaporado.
