2 UNITED WAY STUFF THE BUS Grace Church will again collect school supplies for children in need. United Way needs our help to provide a backpack full of the necessary supplies for students in grades kindergarten through high school. The United Way hopes to fill 3,000 backpacks this summer. Needed items includes: backpacks, glue sticks, colored pencils, handheld pencil sharpeners, Crayons, marble composition books, highlighters, threering binders (1-inch), loose-leaf paper (wide & college ruled), spiral notebooks (wide & college ruled), pocket folders, and gift cards to Walmart, K Mart or Target (for agencies to purchase other supplies). Our final collection date will be Sunday, August 12. Please drop your donations in the big box in the church hallway. Anyone interested in filling backpacks Tuesday, August 13 and Wednesday, August 14, please contact Danielle Bush at ext It will be done at the Fairless Hills Fire Company next to the United Way office. MARY S CUPBOARD FOOD PANTRY Schools finished up in June. This means that many children will be home for the summer. Some will be old enough an able to make their own breakfast and lunch. This will put a huge strain on family food budgets. When shopping for food items to donate to the pantry, please consider items that will be kid friendly such as mac & cheese, spaghetti O s, canned ravioli, peanut butter& jelly and any other items you think might work. After reading the names, the reader may ask if anyone would like to give an update on someone on the Prayer List. PRAYER LIST Just a reminder that the Prayer List in the Sunday bulletin is for those who have an immediate, short term need. These names will be listed in the bulletin for four weeks. The Prayer List in the newsletter and Noon Prayer bulletin will contain the names of those who have a long term illness. The names on these two lists will be removed after two months if no new information is provided (in writing). All prayer requests must be in writing and must be submitted by Wednesday morning to be included in the Sunday bulletin. Sheron Drennen 10 The Property Team Ministry has been busy! Just so you know, Al Van Dine agreed to be the new Building Fund Treasurer. Many thanks to Bill Norton for his years of excellent, faithful service at this post! Among recent accomplishments: the Memorial Garden was cleaned and new plants added in memory of Fay and Fred Ball; top soil and grass seed was added to ash tree area; a vegetable garden is growing, with produce going to Mary s Cupboard; the gutters were cleaned; fallen apple tree branches were removed; the water meter cover frame was repaired; the AC units were serviced; the hedges were trimmed; the paper bin was closed and hauled away; and we signed up with Titan Power and Gas for generation services for the next 3 years. VACATION Sheron Drennen, parish administrator, will be on vacation the week of July 16. The church office will be closed Monday, 7/16 and Thrusday, 7/19. Rev. Marlee Norton will be in the office on Tuesday & Wednesday. 3

4 GENERAL CONVENTION The 79 th General Convention of the Episcopal Church is meeting in Austin, TX, July General Convention is held every three years, and is the bicameral (two house) governing body of the Church, made up of the House of Bishops, with upwards of 200 active and retired bishops, and the House of Deputies, with more than 800 members elected from the 109 dioceses and three regional areas of the Church. The agenda facing Convention is so packed that legislative committee meetings began two days before the official start of the meeting (July 5). Among the hundreds of issues facing Convention, the biggest are these. Revising the BCP - The Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music is offering bishops and deputies a comprehensive plan for revision, as requested by the 2015 meeting of General Convention, as well as a way for the church to spend time discerning the future shape of its common prayer. The first option would move the church immediately into a full-blown prayer book revision process that would be completed in nine years. The second would call on the church to plumb the depths of the current Book of Common Prayer s theology, as well as its usefulness as a tool for unity in a diverse church. If convention agrees to the second approach, this would include new BCP translations. New Marriage Rites - The Task Force on the Study of Marriage has monitored the use of two new marriage rites General Convention approved in 2015 for trial use by both same-sex and opposite-sex couples and is aware of concern about unequal access to the trial use liturgies. The Task Force has found widespread acceptance of the rites across the church except for the bishops of eight dioceses, in which same-sex couples cannot marry. It cost the church about $65 per month to have a fax machine that the church office is not using. The line has been disconnected and the machine has been removed from the office. Staff from the Bishop s office have planned a training day for Eucharistic Ministers (chalicists) and Eucharistic Visitors from all Bucks County churches on Saturday, September 29.
