2 Page 2 Fired up by the Holy Spirit On the day of Pentecost, when the seven weeks of Easter had come to an end, Christ's Passover is fulfilled in the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. The Acts of the Apostles testifies, When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together. And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim. The Holy Spirit, whom Christ the head pours out on his members, builds, animates, and sanctifies the Church. The coming of the Holy Spirit indeed marks the birth day of the Church, as it signifies a fresh movement in the Church. Today, we need to recapture the freshness of the Holy Spirit within our hearts like that of the disciples who were huddled together in the upper room. Although the disciples were of different cultures and temperament, they manifested a great sense of unity and solidarity through the out pouring of the gifts and fruits of the Spirit in the community. Like the disciples, if we wait upon the Holy Spirit and invite it into our hearts and our community as one Body of Christ, we will experience a new Pentecost of love and joyful collaboration beyond our divisions and differences. The first communion of our 36 children last week was indeed a wonderful manifestation of this joy and harmony in our church community. Let these children be supported and encouraged to practice communion regularly with parents, family and the entire church community. Then, they will learn to live by the Spirit. And within a few weeks, we will have the confirmation celebration of 70 young adults who will be anointed with the gift of the Holy Spirit to become mature Christian adults. With a strong bond of unity and mark of love, let us walk by the Spirit for we are the temple of the Holy Spirit. Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth. Save the date: On May 29th, a Eucharistic Procession will take place to commemorate the Feast of the Body & Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi), a feast honoring the true presence of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament. The procession will begin after the 11am Mass at Queen of the Apostles and proceed to Holy Family. Along the way, the faithful will stop to pray at a series of homes decorated for the occasion. The procession s final prayers will be at Holy Family where a lunch will be provided for all attending. THE ORDINATION BUS IS LEAVING! The Serra Club has chartered a bus for the Ordination to the Priesthood of one of our seminarians, Deacon Dan Gehler, on Friday, June 3rd at St. Ambrose in Des Moines. The bus will leave The Mall of the Bluffs parking lot at 2:30pm. Cost is $25 dollars per person with dinner on your own at the Machine Shed. For reservations, call Lois at before May 20th. 3 Seasons of Hope: Bereavement Support: If you are in need of support & consolation working through the loss of a loved one, please join us on Friday, May 20th at this Christ-centered faith sharing group. We meet at the Holy Family Rectory, 6:30 p.m. More info: Donna Group Ballroom Dance Lessons are Back! The group ballroom dance lessons will resume each Sunday, beginning Sunday, May 15, from 7 8 p.m. in the Great Hall at Queen of Apostles. Join others for a fun opportunity to socialize with your fellow parishioners and learn a variety of basic and intermediate dances taught by an instructor from an Omaha studio. Each lesson starts off with a review, followed by new steps/techniques and plenty of time for practice. Everyone is welcome and a dance partner or previous dance experience is never necessary! Cost for each lesson is just $3 for individuals or $5 for couples. Bishop Pates will preside at the Mass, which is offered for all families and individuals who have suffered from the loss of a child. A reception will follow the Mass, where resources offering healing and education will be provided. (sponsored by Holy Family Rosary Society) Festival Country Store Booth It s that time of year again to start thinking about donations to the Country Store Booth at the festival. The festival is Saturday, August 27th at Our Lady of Carter Lake Church site. We can use handmade craft items that you sew, embroider, knot or crochet; woodcraft items, wreaths, homemade candles, soaps, etc. Also fresh produce from your garden or home canned produce, jams, jellies (but no bake sale items). Donations can be brought to the Parish Office during business hours or drop them off at Our Lady of Carter Lake on Sundays.
