They did not listen to the prophets among them, who spoke for God in warning them. Prophets are sent from God to remind us why we are here, but they are often, even in our own time, mocked, disregarded, and mistreated rather than thanked and listened to. The book of Chronicles tells the results of these sins: the destruction of the temple and all of Jerusalem, murder, mayhem, and finally exile to a foreign land. Why are these stories in the Bible? Just to inform us of what happened to our ancient forebears? What good would that be unless there were a message and a warning for us as well? Are we people who follow the teachings of God, who obey the words of Christ in the second covenant in his blood? Or do we continue to wreak works of darkness and violence? 3 PARISH NURSE Nursing, Healing, and Health March is National Nutrition Month. We continue on our Lenten Journey that draws us closer to God through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, always striving to keep a balance between mind, body, and spirit. Fasting does not always mean to fast from food. Of course, we need to always stay mindful to observe the Laws of the Church concerning fasting from food and abstinence from meat during all Fridays during Lent, and on Ash Wednesday, and Good Friday. Why do we have these laws? Could it be that in order to draw closer to God, we may need to focus intently on Him, and less than ourselves and distractions? It is said in Sacred Scripture that God desires our love, more than sacrifice. The Church offers the beautiful Sacrament of Reconciliation to help us draw closer to God. Through this Sacrament, discouragement, bitterness, self-loathing, hatred, and discontent can be transformed into Hope, Trust, Forgiveness, Love, and Gratitude. Knowledge of the four food groups used properly helps keep our body healthy. Knowledge of the graces received in the Sacrament of Reconciliation renews our soul. How are we drawing closer to God this Lent? You shall return by the help of your God, if you remain loyal and do right and always hope in your God. (Hosea 12:7) The YOUR HEALTH COUNT volunteers will be sending out get well cards for those sick friends and/or relatives in our parish. We are grateful to our pastor, Father Quesnel for his support. If you place the name of the person on the Sick List in the parish bulletin, please ask them first if they would like correspondence, and then, after that, kindly supply us with that information if appropriate. We will pray for healing for that person on the sick list whether or not they receive a get well card. Thank you in advance for your thoughtfulness and kind consideration in this matter, and thank you for putting your Faith in Catholic action into practice by praying along with us in Christian unity. Faith in action is love, and love in action is service. By transforming that faith into living acts of love, we put ourselves in contact with God Himself, with Jesus our Lord. The Bereavement Support Group Invites you to come and join us for coffee and conversation. Many of our Sacred Heart families have lost loved ones, some in the past and others more recently. SACRED HEART PARISH NEW EASTER SHOES DRIVE This Lent our parish will be collecting new dress shoes for children/teens in need. Please find it in your heart to donate a pair of new dress shoes. What are the benefits of using my numbered weekly offertory envelopes? The envelope number automatically identifies your presence and contributions for tax receipt purposes. Offertory envelopes make it possible for the parish staff to record your giving in the database. Use of your envelopes is the only identifiable way of confirming your attendance for purposes of being considered a sponsor for Baptism, Confirmation or Marriage and for in Parish rates for Catholic Schools in the Diocese. The other reason may be a need for proof of residency in which it is imperative that you notify the Parish Office immediately if you move. If you received envelopes at one time and no longer do you may have possibly been deleted from the system due to undelivered mail or inactivity for more than one year. Please call the office to reregister. If you no longer want to receive envelopes, are going on vacation, are snowbirds or you are moving, please notify the office as it is an expense to the Church to send envelopes that are not being used. It is important for the office to have the correct sacramental information for each family member updated for sponsorship purposes. It is recommended that adults 18 and older be registered on their own registration card if you are planning on getting married and having children baptized in the future. Prayer Chapel The chapel is closed until further notice. The church is open daily for prayer from 7:00 am - 7:00 pm. Wednesdays Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament in the Church beginning after the 9:00 am Mass and ending with Benediction at 7:00 p.m. The Divine Mercy Chaplet Wednesdays at 11:00 am in the Church. The North side door will be open. Every First Friday Every first Friday of the month there is a noon Mass to commemorate our patron, the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Eucharistic adoration will follow with Benediction at 6:00 p.m. Woman of Sacred Heart Church prayer group Meets every Wednesday at 6-7 pm in the School Library. Catholic Men of Faith Group Meets every Saturday from 6:30 7:30 am in the Knights of Columbus House (across from Sacred Heart Church).
