1 St. Paul s Episcopal Church All are welcome, no exceptions! St. Paul s Mission Statement: We are called to gather around the sacred story and table of Christ where all are invited to be fed and everyone s story matters. St. Paul s Vision Statement: We pray that our hearts may be opened to seek the inspiration of the Holy Spirit to be the church and the Christians that God is calling us to be. The Day of Pentecost Whitsunday June 8, 2014, 8:00 A.M. The shield of St. Paul, an open Bible and the sword with the words Spiritus Gladius (the Sword of the Spirit) refer to St. Paul s admonition, Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. (Ephesians 6:17)

4 Prayers of the for the Day of Pentecost Let us unite our hearts and minds in prayer for our world, saying, Almighty God, hear our prayer. For the church throughout the world, Almighty God, (brief pause) Inspire the sons and daughters of your church for prophetic witness to your truth, and upon old and young, give clarity of vision to acknowledge your saving power in the world. For the nations of the world and its leaders, especially Barack our President and Patrick our Governor. Almighty God,. (brief pause) Overcome the babble of misunderstanding among the nations, and let all people hear in their own language and recognize in their own culture your unifying message of love. For planet Earth, our home, Almighty God,. (brief pause) By your Spirit, renew the earth, make us good stewards of its resources, and teach us to enjoy its abundance rightly. For those in need of healing, Almighty God, 4

5 (brief pause) Among those known to us, God we pray for Michelle Toles, Steve Hallam and family, Aneda, Elizabeth, Sean, Virginia, June, Gail, Al, Jim, Alberta, Lance, Stacie, Grace and Jacob, Leslie, Jack, Reid and Marie, Tim, Melissa, Karen and family, Janet, Zachery, Bob and Marguerite, Sue, Jan Kuntz, Mary, Doug George, Ginger Colbert, Betsey and her family, Laura, Paula Hofer, Margaret Johnson, Norma, Bertha, Gretta May, Kirt, Dorothy, Brian, Alcyone, Steve, Liz, Amy and family, Kurt, Kara & Jim. Send your healing Spirit upon those who are sick in body or mind, restore them to health, and restore to them the joy of salvation. For our neighbors and members of our civic community, Almighty God, For priests, teachers, and ministers, especially Katherine, our Presiding Bishop, Jeff our Diocesan Bishop, Chris and John our Assisting Bishops, and our priest, Stacy, that, by the power of the Holy Spirit, they may seek to build the church upon Christ, the cornerstone, and humbly lead in faithful service; Almighty God, We pray for all who are oppressed by governments or institutions: for those whose voices are not heard or believed, those with no one on their side. For Syria, South Sudan, and Ukraine. For the kidnapped girls in Nigeria. Bless us with a joy for justice and the strength to persevere as we work toward your coming realm, Almighty God, (brief pause) Teach us to be good neighbors, to live in peace with one another, and in friendship share the joys and burdens of daily life. 5

6 For our enemies, Almighty God, We pray for all who suffer the violence and scars of war, for all soldiers and their families, and all who live and serve in war-torn places. For those serving in the armed forces, especially those serving on the U.S.S. Ohio, Greg, and Dana in Okinawa. Give them courage in the face of fear; in times of trouble, do not let their feet slip. Bless us with your vision of peace, for you have made us one family by giving life and breath to all. Almighty God, (brief pause) Bless our enemies and show us how we may do good to them for the sake of Jesus Christ. For our children, Almighty God, We give thanks for all those celebrating birthdays, especially Dorathea Beard, Oscar Frontjes, Rowan Frontjes, Matthew Ouellette, and Eva Leonard and for all those celebrating anniversaries this week. Almighty God,. (brief pause) Bless our children, protect them from danger, and help parents and caregivers nurture them so that they may mature in wisdom and grow in grace. In your mercy, Almighty God, receive our prayers and, according to your wisdom, provide all that we need; through Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit, Amen 6
