5 Please Stand An Affirmation of Faith for Epiphany Reader 1 Reader 2 Reader 1 Reader 2 We believe in God who said, Let there be light, and there was! With that light, God mad the world and all people in whom, and through whom, the Light burns on, strong and true. We believe! We believe in Jesus, the true Light, who went down to darkness to overcome death, and rose again, to unveil our own brightness, in the victory or whose love a path shines home to God s heart where all will live forever. We believe! We believe in the Spirit, blazing with hope, speaking the truth into every darkness, warming our lives with God s gifts and call. We believe! We believe in the church, where God s Light is praised, and from where we are sent to love and erve the world. We believe! We ask today that a gentle breath blow from above on the light that is in us, the light that is among us, and enflame us anew with the courage of love. Enflame us, O God! Amen. 5

Please kneel or stand A Confession for Epiphany Christ, morning star, you ask us to shine into darkness with your very own light, but we cloud your brightness with hatred and greed: We are sorry, Lord Jesus. Forgive us. Christ, light of the world, you call us to enlighten shadows with lives brave and true, but we hide our light under falsehood and fear: We are sorry, Lord Jesus. Forgive us. Christ, flame of God s love, you send us with your fiery Spirit, to gather and warm your people, but we quench your fire in cold, stony hearts. We are sorry, Lord Jesus. Forgive us. For the sake of the world, and our joy in you, and all those you ve given into our care, Enflame our hearts and help us to shine. Amen. 7

9 The Great Thanksgiving Enriching Our Worship: Eucharistic Prayer 2 The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. We praise you and we bless you, holy and gracious God, source of life abundant. From before time you made ready the creation. Your Spirit moved over the deep and brought all things into being: sun, moon, and stars; earth, winds, and waters; and every living thing. You made us in your image, and taught us to walk in your ways. But we rebelled against you, and wandered far way; and yet, as a mother cares for her children, you would not forget us. Time and again you called us to live in the fullness of your love. And so this day we join with Saints and Angels in the chorus of praise that rings through eternity, lifting our voices to magnify you as we sing: 9

10 Holy, holy, holy Lord: Sanctus Remain Standing or Kneel Glory and honor and praise to you, holy and living God. To deliver us from the power of sin and death and to reveal the riches of your grace, you looked with favor upon Mary, your willing servant, that she might conceive and bear a son, Jesus the holy child of God. Living among us, Jesus loved us. He broke bread with outcasts and sinners, healed the sick, and proclaimed good news to the poor. He yearned to draw all the world to himself yet we were heedless of his call to walk in love. Then, the time came for him to complete upon the cross the sacrifice of his life, and to be glorified by you. 10

11 On the night before he died for us, Jesus was at a table with his friends. He took bread, gave thanks to you, broke it, and gave it to them, and said: Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. As supper was ending, Jesus took the cup of wing. Again, he gave thanks to you, gave it to them, and said: Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is poured out for you and for all for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me. Now, gathered at your table, O God of all creation, and remembering Christ, crucified and risen, who was and is to come, we offer to your our gifts of bread and wine, and ourselves, a living sacrifice. Pour out your Spirit upon these gifts that they may be the Body and Blood of Christ. Breathe your Spirit over the whole earth and make us your new creation, the Body of Christ given for the world you have made. In the fullness of time bring us, with Saint Paul and all your saints, from every tribe and language and people and nation, to feast at the banquet prepared from the foundation of the world. Through Christ and with Christ and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, to you be honor, glory, and praise, for ever and ever. AMEN. And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say, In Unison Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. 11

12 The Breaking of the Bread Silence is observed after the bread is broken We break this bread to share in the Body of Christ. We who are many are one body, for we all share in the one bread. The Gifts of God for the of God. Take them in remembrance that Christ died for you, and feed on him in your hearts by faith, with thanksgiving. Fraction Anthem: Lamb of God: Agnus Dei The Episcopal Church invites all Christians to receive communion. The host is placed in your open hands; please assist in guiding the chalice to your lips, or dip the host in the wine. We have gluten free hosts available, ask the priest at the rail. It is acceptable to receive only the bread or the wine. If you would rather not receive communion, you are invited to come to the rail for a blessing. Simply cross your arms over your chest and the priest will say a prayer for you. 12

13 Communion Reflective Instrumental Music When all have received Communion, the leads the following prayer: Let us pray. In Unison God of abundance, you have fed us with the bread of life and cup of salvation; you have united us with Christ and one another; and you have made us one with all your people in heaven and on earth. Now send us forth in the power of your Spirit, that we may proclaim your redeeming love to the world in the risen life of Christ our Savior. Amen. The Epiphany Blessing May Christ, the Son of God, be manifest in you, that your lives may be a light to the world; and the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be among you, and remain with you always. 14 Announcements Reminders for Today and This week! Epiphany Celebration & St. Nick Mighty Box Ingathering TODAY! Epiphany at St. Paul's means fellowship, food, finding treasures in cakes, and full piñatas. Fun for kids of all ages! We will be feasting on delicious food following the service. Also, we will be collecting your full St. Nicholas Mighty Boxes for children s ministries in the holy land. If you want to write a check, please make the check out AFEDJ (American Friends of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem). There are envelopes provided. For more information, check out Wednesday Healing Services All are welcome to join us Wednesdays starting again in January for a quiet service of Holy Communion with healing prayers. The service never lasts longer than 30 minutes. We meet in the chapel in the Parish Hall for the morning service. Enter through the North doors or the Kitchen door. 15 2015 Budget Q&A and Annual Meeting, Sunday January 24 th and Sunday January 31st We will conduct the business of our Annual Meeting in two parts again this year in between the 8 and 10:30AM services. The first congregational meeting will be on January 24th, 2016 at 9AM and will be a question and answer session regarding the 2016 budget. Look for copies of the proposed 2016 budget to be available in early January. On January 31st, 2016 at 9AM will be the second half of our Annual Meeting. The budget will be voted on at this meeting. Also on the agenda for the annual meeting will be election of vestry members, endowment fund committee members, and delegates to diocesan convention. Please plan to attend both meetings. Continental breakfast will be served and childcare will be provided. (There will be no Sunday School on January 24 th or January 31 st.) Food Pantry Collection is Next Week, January 10th Parishioners are reminded that next Sunday, January 10th, will be Food Pantry Sunday. Please place your donations in the baskets provided. No glass jars, please. Although any contribution is most welcome, we are choosing one particular item as a priority each month. For the month of January, the priority is Cleaning and Laundry Supplies. Contributions may be made at any time during the month, not just on the 10th. We hope that everyone will participate, even in a small way. Lecture and Discussion Religious Terrorism, Part 2, January10 th, 9:15 A.M.
