3 The Collect of the Day Christ the King, Proper 29 The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray. Almighty and everlasting God, whose will it is to restore all things in your well-beloved Son, the King of kings and Lord of lords: Mercifully grant that the peoples of the earth, divided and enslaved by sin, may be freed and brought together under his most gracious rule; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. 3

4 We sit to hear the lessons. The First Lesson Daniel 7:9-10, Lector A reading from the Book of Daniel. As I watched, thrones were set in place, and an Ancient One took his throne, his clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames, and its wheels were burning fire. A stream of fire issued and flowed out from his presence. A thousand thousands served him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood attending him. The court sat in judgment, and the books were opened. As I watched in the night visions, I saw one like a human being coming with the clouds of heaven. And he came to the Ancient One and was presented before him. To him was given dominion and glory and kingship, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not pass away, and his kingship is one that shall never be destroyed. Lector The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God Psalm 93 Lector Let us read Psalm 93 together. 1 The LORD is King; he has put on splendid apparel; * the LORD has put on his apparel and girded himself with strength. 2 He has made the whole world so sure * that it cannot be moved; 4

5 3 Ever since the world began, your throne has been established; * you are from everlasting. 4 The waters have lifted up, O LORD, the waters have lifted up their voice; * the waters have lifted up their pounding waves. 5 Mightier than the sound of many waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea, * mightier is the LORD who dwells on high. 6 Your testimonies are very sure, * and holiness adorns your house, O LORD, for ever and for evermore. The Second Lesson Revelation 1:4b-8 Lector A reading from the Book of Revelation. Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and freed us from our sins by his blood, and made us to be a kingdom, priests serving his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. Look! He is coming with the clouds; every eye will see him, even those who pierced him; and on his account all the tribes of the earth will wail. So it is to be. Amen. I am the Alpha and the Omega, says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty. Lector The Word of the Lord. 5

Pilate entered the headquarters again, summoned Jesus, and asked him, Are you the King of the Jews? Jesus answered, Do you ask this on your own, or did others tell you about me? Pilate replied, I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests have handed you over to me. What have you done? Jesus answered, My kingdom is not from this world. If my kingdom were from this world, my followers would be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not from here. Pilate asked him, So you are a king? Jesus answered, You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice. 7 The Nicene Creed Silence for meditation We stand to affirm our faith by reciting the Nicene Creed. We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. Grant that every member of the Church may truly and humbly serve you; 7

We remember before you those in need of your care, especially for Joyce Kotvan, Chris Rogers, Jackie, Gail, Zachary and the Jacobs family, Marilyn, Dorothy, Margaret, Patty, Kathy, David, Michele and family, Rene, Myrna, Terry Costello, the Langer family, Roy Nilsen, and Rosemarie. That they may be delivered from their distress. Give to the departed eternal rest; Let light perpetual shine upon them. We praise you for your saints who have entered into joy; May we also come to share in your heavenly kingdom. Let us pray for our own needs and those of others. 8

Silence Intercessor We give thanks for all those celebrating birthdays this week; especially for Brittany Altepeter; and for all those celebrating anniversaries this week. O Lord our God, accept the fervent prayers of your people; in the multitude of your mercies, look with compassion upon us and all who turn to you for help; for you are gracious, O lover of souls, and to you we give glory, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen. The Confession of Sin Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor. Silence may be kept. We kneel or stand. All Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen. 9

11 The Great Thanksgiving Eucharistic Prayer B The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. Because in 11

12 Jesus Christ our Lord you have received us as your sons and daughters, made us citizens of your kingdom, and given us the Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name: Sanctus: Holy, holy, holy Lord 12

13 We remain standing or kneel We give thanks to you, O God, for the goodness and love which you have made known to us in creation; in the calling of Israel to be your people; in your Word spoken through the prophets; and above all in the Word made flesh, Jesus, your Son. For in these last days you sent him to be incarnate from the Virgin Mary, to be the Savior and Redeemer of the world. In him, you have delivered us from evil, and made us worthy to stand before you. In him, you have brought us out of error into truth, out of sin into righteousness, out of death into life. 13

14 On the night before he died for us, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, "Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me." After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, "Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me." Therefore, according to his command, O Father, Memorial Acclamation And we offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to you, O Lord of all; presenting to you, from your creation, this bread and this wine. We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts that they may be the Sacrament of the Body of Christ and his Blood of the new Covenant. Unite us to your Son in his sacrifice, that we may be acceptable through him, being sanctified by the Holy Spirit. In the fullness of time, put all things in subjection under your Christ, and bring us to that heavenly country where, with all your saints, we may enter the everlasting heritage of your sons and daughters; through Jesus Christ our Lord, the firstborn of all creation, the head of the Church, and the author of our salvation. 14

And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say, All Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. 16 The Episcopal Church invites all Christians to receive communion. The host is placed in your open hands; please assist in guiding the chalice to your lips, or dip the host in the wine. We have gluten free hosts available, ask the priest at the rail. It is acceptable to receive only the bread or the wine. If you would rather not receive communion, you are invited to come to the rail for a blessing. Simply cross your arms over your chest and the priest will say a prayer for you. Communion Hymn # 328 Draw nigh and take the Body of the Lord (Vs. 1-5) Prayer after Communion When all have received Communion, the leads the following prayer: Let us pray. Please stand. All Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image and nourishing us with spiritual food in the Sacrament of Christ s Body and Blood. Now send us forth a people, forgiven, healed, renewed; that we may proclaim your love to the world and continue in the risen life of Christ our Savior. Amen. 16

Greening of the Sanctuary The hopeful anticipation of Advent that leads us to the birth of Jesus begins with joyfully preparing our worship space. 21 The Book Club will meet on Thursday, November 29 th at 5:30 PM. Bring your own snack/food as you may need. We plan to continue the discussion of Mudhouse Sabbath by Lauren F. Winner with the focus for the discussion on 'mezuzot - doorposts' (chapter 11). Adult Christian Formation Movie Night Continuing today, November 25 th at 9 AM, we will discuss TED Talks as part of our adult formation program. The program will be repeated on this Wednesday night, November 28 th at 6:30 PM. We will watch a video of approximately 15 minutes or less, then have a discussion of the topic. Bring a notebook to jot down anything that speaks to you and that you would like to raise during our discussion time. There will be a break in Adult Formation during Advent. Watch for more programming to come. Family Movie night for November will be on Friday, Nov. 30 th, with the showing of the Disney movie Lilo and Stitch at 5:00 PM and Ferris Buehler s Day Off at 7:00 PM. Travel, Craft and Hobby Show on December 2nd The annual Craft and Hobby Show will be held on December 2 nd in the Parish Hall. This is a showcase for craft/hobbyist folks to share their interests with fellow parishioners. In the past we have seen the following exhibits at this show: sewing, yarn and needlepoint projects, stoneware ceramics, jams and jellies, railroad exhibits, clocks, a post card collection. Home-made cookies, candy and snacks offered for sale to fund pet projects. Share the picture you took on a recent vacation. Returning exhibitors, let us know how much you will need for your display. You may offer items for sale 21

22 or only for display. There is interest in both kinds of exhibitions. New exhibitors, give Betsy Pool a call to reserve your display place at or brpoolsr@gmail.com. Show us what you are doing with your creative time! All are welcome to provide exhibits. This is part of a getting to know you parish event. Blue Christmas Service, Wednesday December 5 th at 7pm The Blue Christmas Service will be on Wednesday, December 5th at 7 pm. Mother Heidi and the Reverend Adam Frieberg will preside over the service, which includes prayers, scripture, and music that focus on the hope and healing that God offers each one of us. Everyone is welcome to stay afterwards for light refreshments and conversation. All parishioners and friends are invited to attend! St. Nicholas Party The annual St. Nicholas Party will be Saturday, December 8, 2018 from 6:00-10:00 P.M. at the Somerset Farm clubhouse. Somerset Farm is located on the south side of Bethany Road between Peace Road and Somonauk Road. Please bring a nibble to share and your beverage of choice. The Nenonens will provide coffee, water and wassail. For more Information or directions call the Nenonens at after December 1 st. Communication!!!!! There are a lot of things happening at St. Paul s! A new form has been developed so that the office can keep up with events and programs and be sure information is communicated to all who should know. In addition, the new Audio Video System in the Parish Hall has many capabilities for streaming, playing DVD s, slide shows, music, etc. To both ends, we are asking that you fill 22

23 out a Communication and Tech Request Form for your events and or turn it in to the office. Copies of the form will be available in the Parish Office and on the table in the Parish Hall.
