Built on these roots, and in order to see the world as God sees it, we commit ourselves to: being a welcoming sanctuary and a place of prayer and worship, nurturing, assisting, encouraging and serving all those in need, offering all generations opportunities for personal and communal growth, and, by these commitments, to honor our call to evangelization. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION On the First Friday of each month we gather in prayer and praise before the Blessed Sacrament. Following the 8 a.m. Mass and concluding at 10 p.m. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Parents of infants requesting information about Baptism may contact the parish office. Infant baptisms are celebrated on the second Saturday of the month. CELEBRATION OF CHRISTIAN FUNERALS At the time of death, a family member should contact the parish office, as soon as possible, to arrange the date and time for the Funeral Liturgy. SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY Couples must begin preparation for their Sacrament at least six months prior to their proposed wedding date. Please call the parish office for more information. SACRAMENT OF THE SICK The third Saturday of each month after the 8:00 a.m. Mass. In the event of serious illness or medical emergency, Anointing of the Sick and Eucharist may be arranged by contacting the parish office CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS Adults requesting information about full initiation and communion with the Roman Catholic Church (the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation) may contact the office for more info. Baby bottles will be available to take home and fill up with your coins and dollars to support local Respect Life shelters, clinics and centers that give immediate and long-term care to Orange County women, men and families in crisis. Charlie and Sally Woods were the faces of our parish Pennies from Heaven drive for many years this year all contributions will given to Respect Life shelters and clinics in their names. Cosmas and Damian Saturday: St. Vincent de Paul SEEK THE LORD In today s opening reading, Isaiah urges us to seek the LORD who is near and can be found (Isaiah 55:6). Then Isaiah says God s ways are as high above our ways as the heavens are above the earth (Isaiah 55:9). So we search, not because God is hiding, but because our tendencies are so different from God s ways that we get lost. How are God s ways so high above our ways? The example Isaiah gives is that God s way is to be generous in forgiving (Isaiah 55:7). And our way? We try to be fair. You hurt me, so then I hurt you back, just as hard. Then, of course, you.... And on it goes. In today s Gospel Jesus teaches that God is not fair like that. Instead, God is so generous we can hardly understand it. The same wage for one hour as for a whole day of work? Not fair! Seek the Lord, and we might find a God who calls us to be, not fair, but generous beyond expectations. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. Yet penitents were highly visible. They wore distinctive garments or chains, and they were relegated to special zones in the church. They might be dismissed from the Sunday assembly after the Word, forbidden to join in the Prayer of the Faithful or the Eucharist. This dismissal was done with great affection and tenderness as the bishop laid his hands on the heads of the sinners. During Lent almost everyone would identify with penitents by clothing, insignia, or by following the penitents regular diet. Rather than sit in judgment over them, the church desired to intercede for them before the Lord. Let Mother Church weep for you and wash away your sins with her tears, said St. Ambrose to his penitents in Milan. Ambrose liked to think of them as Jonah in the whale, meditating on his errors. In a letter to his sister he said that Jonah is also a sign of Christ in the tomb, and so he had great faith in the penitents future proclamation of the Resurrection with their reclaimed status in the assembly.. 9 Vigésimo Quinto Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario 21 de Septiembre de 2014 Page 9 Lecturas BUSCAR AL SEÑOR En la primera lectura de hoy, Isaías nos insta a buscar al Señor que está cerca y puede encontrarse (Isaías 55:6). Entonces Isaías dice que los caminos de Dios se elevan por encima de nuestros caminos, así como el cielo está muy alto por encima de la tierra (Isaías 55:9). Buscamos, no porque Dios está escondido, sino porque nuestras tendencias son tan diferentes a los caminos de Dios que nos perdemos. Cómo es que los caminos de Dios están por encima de nuestros caminos? El ejemplo que Isaías nos da es que el camino de Dios es ser generoso en perdonar (Isaías 55:7). Y cómo es nuestro camino? Nosotros tratamos de ser justos. Tú me ofendes, entonces yo te ofendo también. Entonces, por supuesto, tú... Y así sucesivamente. En el Evangelio de hoy, Jesús nos dice que Dios no es justo de esa manera. Al contrario, Dios es tan generoso que no podemos ni siquiera entenderlo. Pagar el mismo salario por una hora que por todo un día? No es justo! Busca al Señor y encontrarás a un Dios que me llama a ser, no justo, sino más generoso de lo que nos podemos imaginar. PROGRAMA DE EDUCACIÓN RELIGIOSA REGISTRACIONES DEL AÑO ESCOLAR Me gustaría darles la oportunidad de registrar a sus niños/as temprano para el año escolar Inscripciónes para los niños en el Programa de Educación Religiosa serán aceptadas el 1 de julio 31 de agosto. Los padres de los niños que vinieron el año pasado van a recibir un paquete de registracion por correo. Familias nuevas necesitan venir a la oficina de Educación Religiosa ( ext. 119) para registrarse. Horario de clases para el año escolar es domingos a las 12:15 1:30 en la iglesia de Santa Catalina. TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE En 1535 los frailes mercedarios construyeron la primera iglesia en Lima Perú dedicada a su patrona, Nuestra Señora de la Merced. Esta orden religiosa se remonta al siglo XIII, mientras algunos musulmanes tomaban prisioneros cristianos en España. Era su misión rescatar a los cautivos, incluso, hasta tomar su lugar si fuera necesario. Con el paso de los siglos, los mercedarios se han dedicado a rescatar todo tipo de cautivos del abuso social. Por tal razón, muchas imágenes de la Virgen de Nuestra Señora de la Merced la pintan con dos bolsitas de monedas usadas para comprar la libertad de los encarcelados o esclavizados. En otras imágenes carga cadenas abiertas como símbolo de libertad. Esta patrona de Perú recuerda el deseo latinoamericano de la liberación. Este deseo de liberación se ha convertido en un compromiso urgente para la Iglesia latinoamericana en protesta por los muchos abusos por parte de militares, guerrilleros y carteles de la droga que amenazan la libertad. Jesús vino a liberarnos del pecado y sus consecuencias y su madre (la Merced) ayuda fielmente en esa obra. Su Iglesia no puede hacer otra cosa sino lo mismo. La aplicación Bautismal debe ser completada antes de la clase. Quién debe atender la clase? Los padres y padrinos deben atender una clase de bautismo. Donde debería realizarse el Bautismo: El lugar más apropiado para bautizar a un niño es en la Iglesia de la parroquia donde los padres atienden Misa y son registrados. Bautismos: Nuestros bautismos de infantes son programados mensualmente el tercer sábado de cada mes a las 10:00 en la iglesia de St. Catalina de Siena. Los padres deben ser miembros de la parroquia de Santa Catalina y los padres necesitan venir a la oficina de la parroquia para la aplicación Bautismal.
