2 Page 2 November 15, 2009 Dear Parishioners, Last Saturday, a large number of parishioner volunteers gathered for dinner and camaraderie and gratitude. It was the annual Volunteers Dinner. The parish is grateful to all those who help to bring our parish alive by contributing their time and talent to our many ministries, social activities, formation programs and outreach. Volunteers - thank you for all you do for the parish. I told them that the word volunteer has a Latin root voluntas, which means will. They are willing, they give of their own free will, and in doing so they build up the Body of Christ, they enable Christ to work here in our parish. They align their will to the will of God. And so we are grateful to all who respond so generously when the need arises. A special thanks is to be given to the Hospitality Committee members (Shari Baffoe, Theresa O'Reilly, Colleen Cinatl, Joanne Domenico, Tammy Hayes and Penny Boyle). They provided a beautiful Thanksgiving-themed party for us. For all they do throughout the year (and then they even give more when we are thanking all the givers!) thank you, ladies! You have the spirit of St. Patrick. * * * As many of you know my term as pastor will end next June. It is hard to imagine, but in October of 2003 I received a letter appointing me to be pastor of St. Patrick Parish, and a few months later I was installed by Bishop Gustavo. How time flies! These days the term of office for a pastor is six years. Many people remember times long ago when a priest was made pastor for life. It has been many years since those days. When a pastor s first term is up, there is an option for the priest to ask for another term or to move on to another assignment. I have decided when my term is finished next June not to seek another term at St. Patrick, but will instead make myself available to the archdiocese for another assignment, wherever that may be. Some will be surprised by this, I suppose, but I believe it will give the Holy Spirit an opportunity to work for even more good among us. St. Patrick has a long history as a parish.- of faithful people, staff and pastors. I am glad to have a place in that long history. I am conscious of being the 29th pastor not the first, not the center, not the last, but a part of the history. I am happy to be part of the story here at St. Patrick s with its wonderful, faithful people. The Priests Placement Board will soon begin the process of recommending pastors to the Cardinal for the parishes in need of one. In the next few weeks we will receive information from them concerning the timetable for them to come and consult with the employees and staff, the parish council and finance committee and the parishioners in general. As soon as we know more specifics about that process of consultation we will communicate them to you. In the meantime, I have asked several people to act as a steering committee for the transition over the next eight months to a new pastor. This will include Cindi LaPorte, chair of the Parish Council, Larry Dyjak, chair of the Finance Committee, and Larry Oskielunas, chair of the Facilities Planning Committee. They will help facilitate different transition events during the coming year. We are fortunate to have these faithful parishioners generously offer to help guide the transition during this time. In the meanwhile, let us pray for each other, that everything we do will build up the Church and strengthen our faith. Let us be more holy every day. * * * Our Century Club donations continue to come in. We are grateful to all who are participating. Our total so far is $10,769.00, with 85 families donating. Thanks for the support. Ornaments are here and will be ready for pick-up soon. If you lost your Century Club envelope or didn t get one in the mail, there are some on the tables at the doors of church. Please take one and join in supporting St. Patrick through this our annual fall appeal. God bless you all, Father Mike

However, true stewards give until it feels right.
