3 June 19, 2016 Page 3 Pastor s Column Farewell Fr. Rafael Thanks for the memories, and thank you for your service! St. Catherine was privileged to have with us, the young, handsome, dynamic, energetic, multi-talented, joyful priest Fr. Rafael Lavilla as our parochial vicar for the last three years, he has touched many lives here with his wit and wisdom, fun and frolics, his readiness to help people at any time, and his inspirational life-touching homilies which always connect the gospel message with real life. We will miss him. But our loss is St. Paul s parishioners gain. Our wish and prayer is that he blooms where he is planted; that he grows in grace and wisdom and becomes an even greater asset to the Diocese of St. Augustine. Good luck and Godspeed Fr. Rafael! Fr. This is how I used my time and talent for others during the past week: I vacuumed the rooms; I cleaned the bathroom; I helped with the baby; I helped carry in the groceries. Grades 5th 12th This week my prayers of special intention were for: Mom, Pop, and Dad; My recital and mommy s surgery; Smokey; All students on summer break! This is how I used my time and talent for others during the past week: I helped Nan and Pop take care of Sarah and Patrick; I pray for mommy; I helped around the house; I helped my family organize and donate toys and books. St. Paul Parish Neighborhood Community Fr. Ignatius celebrated Mass at the home of James and Mary Rodgers on June 9th, to mark the occasion of St. Paul's Feast Day. In additions to celebrating Mass, the community also shared dinner and dessert. Many thanks to Fr. Ignatius for taking the time to celebrate with us, and to all our Small Parish Community members for your generous support. Religious Education Parish Neighborhood Communities St. John Neighborhood Community The next gathering of the St. John neighborhood (Orange Park town limits) is on June 27 at 7pm at the home of Dan and Mardelle Wehby. Our neighborhood is hosting the Traveling Chalice from now until July 3 when we transfer it to the next group. It is with the utmost excitement that we are beginning our continuation of religious education for 10 th, 11 th and 12 th graders in called, Wednesday Night Live. We want to encourage our youth to continue learning about their faith in a way that is engaging and fun. Our plan is to begin with live music then engage the high schoolers with interactive discussions and real life activities. T-Shirts can be picked up for both Jr. High Bible Camp, Elementary VBS and all Volunteers after all the masses this weekend in the church conference room.

5 June 19, 2016, 2016 Page 5 Celebration of Life Let s Give Envelopes a Permanent Vacation Did you know that June 20 the first day of summer in 2016 is National egiving Day? St. Catherine s can take particular joy in this celebration, as the response to egiving in our church has been wonderful. To build on this success, I am setting a National egiving Day Challenge. My goal is for St. Catherine s families to put envelopes on a permanent summer vacation and make the switch to egiving. By embracing this practice, you will simplify your giving and help provide our parish with consistent support. This is especially important in the summer months, when many families may be out of town some weekends and St. Catherine does not receive their envelopes. It s easy for people to forget to catch up once they re back, and our weekly offertory can fluctuate as a result making it harder to predict how much we will have to sustain our year-round ministries. Being part of this challenge is simple: you can do so by visiting Use code FL652 to enroll. The more families who welcome the beginning of summer by taking this National egiving Day Challenge, the more consistency and predictable our offertory will be month after month and this will help us do even more to spread Christ s love throughout the community. After Mass those being honored were treated to lunch, music and fellowship in Haut Hall. Thank you Lyn! Lyn Hall, who has been Stewardship Coordinator for the past 17 years, has announced her retirement effective July 1st. Each stocking is filled with toiletries, a card, and a handmade hat. For 2016 instead of stockings we will be making sturdy tote bags that can be used all year. We need your help with supplies! BAPTISM PREPARATION: All parents wishing to baptize a child must attend a three week baptism preparation program held quarterly in English or Spanish. Donations for the 5 day candles are $5 per candle and for the 8 hour candles $2 per candle.. CHAPEL: Our chapel is located behind the main altar or you may enter directly at the doorway near Kingsley Avenue from the driveway between Rooney Hall and the church. You may make a visit there during the day Monday thru Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.. All other times require a security code. FLOWERS: Families wishing to give a donation toward the weekly floral arrangement on the altar or a flower arrangement placed in the Adoration Chapel in front of the Blessed Sacrament may do so in memory of or in celebration of a birthday or anniversary.
