TODAY S READINGS First Reading All who believed were devoted to the teachings of the apostles, the communal life, the breaking of the bread, and prayer (Acts 2:42-47). Psalm Give thanks to the Lord for he is good, his love is everlasting (Psalm 118). Second Reading God has given us an undiminished inheritance, safeguarded for us in heaven (1 Peter 1:3-9). This first line of today s first reading sets the tone as this fifty-day celebration of Easter opens before us. Today we listen to the teachings of three apostles Luke, Peter, and John who remind us that even though we have not seen Christ, we nonetheless are filled with joy as we place our belief in his saving death and resurrection. Each week during the Easter season we will gather as a community of faith to find strength and support from our God and from one another. Each week we will gather to break bread and offer the great prayer of thanksgiving, actions that will manifest the very presence of the risen Christ in our midst. 3 NEWS AND EVENTS 100 years ago in Fatima... The Angel of Peace appeared a third time to the three children, Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco at Fatima in October He gave them Communion using a Chalice and Host and also taught them the Angel s Prayer: O Most Holy Trinity - Father, Son and Holy Ghost. I adore Thee profoundly, and I offer the Precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all of the tabernacles on earth. In reparation for the outrages, sacrileges, and indifference by which He Himself is offended. And by the infinite merits of His most Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. I beg the forgiveness of all poor sinners. (Repeat 3 times.) Eucharistic Adoration Every Thursday from 8:30 am to Catholic Home Missions This weekend, is the collection for Catholic Home Missions. Here in the United States, many of our home mission dioceses are unable to fund essential pastoral work, so they struggle to serve the needs of their communities. 40% of US dioceses are considered Home Missions. Through your support, the struggle in these dioceses can form vibrant faith communities through religious education, seminarian formation, and lay ministry training. Thank you for your generosity. St. John 5k Sunset Run/Walk The 34th Annual St. John School Sunset Run is Saturday, May 13th at 5:30 pm. The Sunset Run originated as the first evening race at dusk in the Pensacola area and is now ranked in the top ten Best Gulf Coast Races! The 5k course is located in the Navy Point community along the shoreline of Bayou Grande, with the Start and Finish lines at St. John School (325 S. Navy Blvd.) Registrants will receive a commemorative race shirt while supplies last. Post race festivities of music, refreshments, awards, and authentic Hispanic food, prepared by the St. John Hispanic Ministry.
