The man believed the word which Jesus said to him, and went his way. And as he was going down, his servants met him, and they brought word, saying that his son lived. And with thy spirit. V. Lift up your hearts. R. We have lifted them up to the Lord. V. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. R. It is fitting and proper to do so. It is truly fitting and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to Thee, holy Lord, Father almighty, eternal God: Who, together with Thine only begotten Son and the Holy Spirit are one God, one Lord, not in the oneness of a single person but in the Trinity of one substance. For what by Thy revelation we believe of Thy glory, the same do we believe of Thy Son, the same of the Holy Spirit, without difference or distinction: so that on confessing the true and eternal Divinity, in It we should adore distinction in Persons, unity in Essence, and equality in Majesty: in praise of Which Angels and Archangels, Cherubim also and Seraphim, day by day exclaim, without end and with one voice, saying: THE SANCTUS Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus Dóminus Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of hosts. 13 Te ígitur, clementíssime Pater, per Iesum Christum Fílium tuum Dóminum nostrum, súpplíces rogámus, ac pétimus uti accépta hábeas et benedícas, hæc dona, hæc múnera, hæc sancta sacrifícia illibáta. To Thee, therefore, we humbly pray and beseech Thee, most merciful Father, through Jesus Christ, Thy Son, our Lord, that Thou would to accept and bless these gifts, these presents, these holy spotless sacrifices. Which in the first place, we offer up to Thee for Thy holy Catholic Church, that it may please Thee to grant her peace, to protect, unite, and govern her throughout the world, together with Thy servant Francis our Pope, and Salvatore our Archbishop, and all true believers and professors of the Catholic and Apostolic Faith. Be mindful, O Lord, of Thy servants and handmaids, N. and N., and of all here present, whose faith and devotion are known unto Thee, for whom we offer or who offer up to Thee this sacrifice of praise for themselves, their families and friends, for the redemption of their souls, for the health and salvation they hope for, and for which they now pay their vows to Thee, the eternal, living and true God. Upon seeing the Sacred Host we may contemplate the profound mystical Sacrifice that has just taken place. He genuflects again, uncovers the Chalice and continues: Símili In modo postquam cœnátum est, accípiens et hunc præclárum Cálicem in sanctas, ac venerábiles manus suas: item tibi grátias agens, bene díxit, dedítque discípulis suis, dicens: Accípite, et bíbite ex eo omnes. Hæc quotiescúmque fecéritis, in mei memóriam faciétis. As often as you do these things, do them in remembrance of Me. The Celebrant genuflects and adores the Precious Blood, then elevates It. The bell rings thrice. He genuflects again in adoration. We most humbly beseech Thee, almighty God, to command these things to be carried by the hands of Thy holy Angel to Thine Altar on high, in the sight of Thy divine Majesty, that as many as shall partake of the Most Sacred Body and Blood of Thy Son at this Altar, may be filled with every heavenly grace and blessing. Praising, I will call upon the Lord and I shall be saved from my enemies. He receives the Precious Blood. May the Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ preserve my soul unto life everlasting. Amen. COMMUNION OF THE FAITHFUL The reception of Holy Communion is a sign that the communicant accepts and believes all that the Roman Catholic Church holds and teaches. General norms for receiving Holy Communion in the Catholic Church Those who receive should: 1) be baptized Catholics in full communion and in good standing with the Church 2) be in a state of Sanctifying Grace (i.e., not conscious of a mortal sin) 3) have fasted at least one hour before receiving the Sacrament. In the ancient Latin rite celebrated according to the liturgical books of 1962, the Communicant receives the Sacred Host on the tongue while, if you are able, kneeling. The Amen is said by the priest. The form used by the Priest distributing Holy Communion is: Cor pus Dómini nostri Iesu Christi custódiat ánimam tuam in vitam ætérnam. Amen. May the Body of our Lord Jesus Christ preserve thy soul unto life everlasting. Amen. After Communion the Priest returns to the altar and reposes any remaining Hosts in the Tabernacle. He then continues with the Ablutions, during which he purifies the Paten, Ciborium, and Chalice. This action is a reminder of the Catholic Church s Jewish origins, specifically the ritual cleansing in and of the Temple. THE ABLUTIONS A server pours wine into the Chalice while the Celebrant recites the following prayer: Quod ore súmpsimus, Dómine, pura mente capiámus: et de múnere temporáli fiat nobis remédium sempitérnum. Grant, O Lord, that what we have taken with our mouth we may receive with a pure mind; and that from a temporal gift it may become for us an eternal remedy. Having purified the Chalice, the Celebrant now moves to the Epistle side where the Server pours water and wine over his fingers into the Chalice to purify them. 064Mass Page 20 of 24

Fuit homo missus a Deo, cui nomen erat Ioánnes. Glory be to Thee, O Lord. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him, and without Him was made nothing that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men; and the light shone forth in darkness, but the darkness did not comprehend it. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. This man came for a witness to give testimony of the light, that all men might believe through him. He was not the light, but was to give testimony of the light. That was the true light that enlightened every man that comes into this world. He was in the world, and the world was made by Him, and the world knew Him not. He came unto His own, and His own received Him not. But as many as received Him, He gave them power to become the sons of God: to them that believe in His Name, who are born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but 064Mass Page 22 of 24
