We re the ones who denied Jesus somewhere between three times and 77 times, just since Lent began. We sold Him for a wad of cash, or a comfortable lifestyle, or a moment s peace. We took a snooze when Jesus asked us to pray. We kissed Him in public, but looked the other way when He was abused. We twisted His words to suit our purposes, mocked Him with thin praise, ran when He needed a friend, hid to save our skins. Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. They began to be distressed and to say to (Jesus), one by one, Surely, it is not I. Holy Week is most definitely a very sacred time of the year, for it is now that we will commemorate and remember the last week of Jesus life on this earth. These are the days leading up to the great Easter Feast. The Lenten season of sacrifice and self-denial is about to come to an end, but this coming week is extremely important for all Christians. The greatest focus of the week is the Passion (suffering) and Resurrection of Jesus Christ and the events that led up to it. For the past 12 years, the event has featured a variety of the best restaurants on Oahu. Attendees, presently numbering about two thousand, also enjoy great entertainment, a fabulous Silent Auction and our Keiki Corner including rides, games and other activities. In addition to our General Admission attendance, VIP table sponsors continue to increase each year as the Festival is recognized as one of the most enjoyable, family friendly events on Oahu. Over the past 60 years, Mary, Star of the Sea Church and Schools have made a difference in the lives of others through service, spiritual development and academic excellence. Through the dedication and commitment of parishioners, parents, teachers, students, and volunteers, Mary, Star of the Sea has positively impacted our Church, school and neighboring communities. 8 SCHOOL NEWS MARY, STAR OF THE SEA SCHOOL 3 rd Quarter ended Spring Break has begun The final Stations of the Cross service for Mary, Star of the Sea students was hosted by the middle schoolers. They created a special service where students were able to experience each station with a small activity from carrying a heavy backpack for Jesus carries the Cross station to kneeling for each station Jesus fell. The 3 rd quarter came to a close on March 16th with a day full of fun healthy activities Jump Rope 4 Heart where students raised over $5000 for the American Heart Association, CPR lessons, kickball, basketball, and a tug-o-war. What a great way to end 3 rd quarter! Our 4 th quarter begins after Easter. HAPPY EASTER! MARY, STAR OF THE SEA EARLY LEARNING CENTER Building Bridges of Cultural and Educational Understanding in Early Childhood Education Mary, Star of the Sea Early Learning Center has experienced wonderful opportunities to host visiting groups of college students, teachers, professors, dieticians and health care workers, primarily from Japan and Korea over the past 20 years. The experience benefits our community of young learners and educators by allowing us to share common experiences in the teaching and care of young children. Our young students also have the opportunity to interact with our visitors through conversations, songs, origami and other cultural activities. Our lifestyle in Hawaii is often described as a rainbow of colors. Although speaking English is our primary language of communication in our school, we have teachers and staff who are also able to speak in Hawaiian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Visayan, Spanish, French and Hindi- Punjabi (India)!
