Praise God that all of the prayers have been answered and she is doing much better. Her operation, treatment and tests have come back with very promising results and we want to share this message of faith and hope with anyone who might be going through a difficult trial in his/her life. There were some very difficult days that would challenge even the strongest faith, but we never lost sight of the absolute fact that God can and does accomplish miracles, if we just have faith and believe by praying without ceasing. There is a reason our Lord has spared Renata, and we truly believe it is to give faith and hope to others that are suffering by sharing this miracle. We have learned through this experience that faith is believing even when you do not see immediate answers to your prayers. We found when you pray, thank God for hearing and answering your prayers (even before they are answered), read Scripture (1 Peter 1:6-7), and talk to others (e.g., parish family, relatives, friends, etc.) for spiritual and emotional support, and most importantly, trust God it works. We learned our Lord Jesus will always be with you and with His help you will get through any challenge. We also want to thank our heavenly Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary, for her intercession on behalf of Renata. We can never thank you enough for all of your prayers and support. Thanksgiving will truly be special for us this year and we wish you and your families a very Happy Thanksgiving and a Very Merry Christmas. God bless. 3 St. Francis Xavier Page Three Pope Angelus: We need bridges not walls (Vatican Radio) Where there is a wall, there is closure of the heart. We need bridges, not walls! Those were the Pope s words on Sunday from the window of the Papal studio above St Peter s Square where he recalled the Fall of the Berlin Wall on November 9 th Following the recitation of the Angelus prayer and on the 25 th anniversary of this momentous event in history, Pope Francis described the wall as a symbol of the ideological division of Europe and the world which for so long had cut the city of Berlin in two. The Holy Father went on to say that the fall happened suddenly, but it was made possible by the long and arduous efforts of many people who had fought for this, prayed and suffered, some even sacrificing their lives. These include, he added, a leading role played by Saint Pope John Paul II. Pope Francis then prayed that, with God's help, all men and women of good will would continue to spread a culture of encounter, with the aim of bringing down all the walls that still divide the world. He also prayed that there would be no more killing and persecution of the innocent and of those killed because of religious beliefs. Before the Angelus the Pope remembered the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica, saying, it is the cathedral of Rome, the one that tradition calls "the mother of all the churches of the city and the world." Every time we celebrate the dedication of a church, the Pope stressed, we recall the essential truth that this material temple made of bricks is a sign of a Church that is alive and active, that of a "spiritual temple," He added, "this spiritual edifice, the church community of men sanctified by the blood of Christ and by the Spirit of the Risen Lord asks each of us to be consistent with the gift of faith and take a journey of Christian witness." This, the Pope said is not easy. Pope Francis concluded that this feast invites us to meditate on the communion of all the Churches, and that this Christian community, by its similarity encourages us to strive so that mankind can overcome barriers of hostility and indifference to build bridges of understanding and dialogue, to make the world a whole family of peoples reconciled with each other, and fraternal solidarity. 4 Page Four Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Times Next Sunday & Thanksgiving November & 27 Please bring items such as soups, oatmeal, cream of wheat, etc. for this winter season Veteran s Home Visit The Year II Confirmation group visited the disabled veterans home in North Hills last weekend bringing the Vets donated new packaged socks and T- shirt plus hand-made cards from our parish school students. The cards were a tear-bring hit to the Vets we visited and the T-shirt and socks were welcomed as much needed items. The second year of our Confirmation formation process is all about loving service emulating the works of Jesus in the Gospels. Next month we will be visting some forgotten elderly for the holidays. Thank you to all those who donated the T-shirts, socks and to our students for the beautiful cards. It was greatly appreciated. Attention all Lectors Please pick up your 2015 lector workbooks from the sacristy after Mass this weekend. Have your Food Blessed for Thanksgiving Dinner Bring your wine, bread to Thanksgiving Day Mass. Place your items around the baptismal font and your food will be blessed during the Thanksgiving Day Mass. Help Us Decorate for Thanksgiving Last year s Thanksgiving arrangement in front of the altar and ambo were gorgeous thanks to all of your donations. We would like to do something similar again this year. We will be accepting donations of whole pumpkins, squash, gourds to arrange in front of the altar and ambo for Thanksgiving Mass. Please bring your donations to Sunday Masses in November. We will be placing a basket in the entry of the church beside the holy water for any donations. Thank you for your participation.
