1 Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time September 30, 2018 Monday, October 1, St. Therese of the Child Jesus 8:15 a.m. Steve Halaiko (Mr. & Mrs. Richard Cunningham) 6:30 p.m. Terez Lenart (Family) Month s Mind Darlene Owen Tuesday, October 2, The Holy Guardian Angels 8:15 a.m. Donna Ott (Betty Geig) 6:30 p.m. Pearl Mitchin (Family) Wednesday, October 3 8:15 a.m. Dana Lonteen (Family) Thursday, October 4, St. Francis of Assisi 8:15 a.m. Barbara Yurick (Bernard Buckhorst) 9:00 a.m. Carol Trifonoff (Pinkston Family) 6:30 p.m. Mary Despot (Donald & Zeny Hornacek) Let The Changing Season Turn You To New Prayer: Maybe it s the Friday Night Football or the wearing of jackets again or just the scent that comes when autumn is officially upon us, but I always feel a bit reflective and happier during these fall days...plus I get to celebrate both my Baptism and the actual death of St. Thérèse of Lisieux (9/30). So look to return to the Little Way of The Little Flower s joy in keeping things simple and humble. Use these days to go deeper into the devout life with our parish-wide book study (Lift Up Your Hearts) or go for a walk in the woods with our Blessed Mother and pray a Rosary for the respect of all human life. I apologize for forgetting to mention the start date of 40 Days for Life (9/26 to 11/4), the internationally-coordinated 40-day peaceful pro-life campaign to end abortion. Because of all we have been through this year and with the threats against innocence, I ask you to add another intention during these 40 Days by including the lives of all children who have been abused. Pray for both abortion and abuses to finally come to an end! Pray, as well, for all those who have had an abortion (or who work in facilities that offer abortions) and for those who abuse others that their hearts might turn to Jesus for truth, reparation and healing. The following is something I found from a prolife group (Vigil for Life) that seems to offer us all an idea of how we can pray and fast for life during these 40 days...theirs and yours: Friday, October 5, Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos 8:15 a.m. Laurence & Agatha Kemper (Arbogast Family) 6:30 p.m. Assunta Berardi (Daughters) Saturday, October 6, St. Bruno and Blessed Marie Rose Durocher 8:15 a.m. Andy Kuthan (Regina Kuthan) 5:00 p.m. Madelin Stricker McCall (Carino Family) October 7, 2018 Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time Anniversary Lois Kapper 7:30 am, 9:00 am - Pro Populo, 11:00 am Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Scripture Readings for the Week: Please take note in the bulletin about some wonderful news regarding a new listening system, Get Looped, that was installed in our sound system-something that can be dramatically helpful for the majority of all people with hearing devices. (In other words, you ll probably even be able to hear me!) The family of a beloved parishioner who recently died, Trudy Howell, knew how much she wished she could hear the Mass and thought this would be a beautiful gift in her memory that will benefit so many. Verso l alto, Fr. Bline (N.B. Remember our parish is praying a Rosary for Life on Manchester Road on October and we are helping with the annual Rosary Procession on October 14 at 2:00 p.m. at the Loyola Retreat House)

WEDDING BANNS Michael Aleman & Samantha Spradling Vincent McNeill & Courtney Shacklett The Priests and Liturgical Ministers strive to enhance the Liturgies in order to bring all parishioners to full, conscious, and active participation. We strive to be sure that the Liturgies are driven by the Holy Spirit bringing the Word of God to you with the True Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. However, deeper worship may be impeded for those that require hearing aids/technology to assist with the loss of specific sound frequencies. Parishioner Trudy Howell had a lifetime dream that those needing assistive technology could more clearly hear the Word of God. It is with great joy and gratitude that we announce that a Hearing Loop has been installed in the main Sanctuary this week. Trudy s family has donated the installation of the Hearing Loop in her loving memory. The Hearing Loop provides the technology to create a direct feed from our sound system to your personal hearing device that has an activated Tele-coil. Individuals wearing hearing aids should follow up with their audiologist to be sure that their hearing technology has a Tele-coil and that it is activated. There are portable options for individuals that do not have a Tele-coil in their technology, as well. Please be patient with us as we all learn how to better serve you with this technology. Brochures are available and informational meeting dates will be provided soon. Please do not hesitate to contact Colleen McVicker if you have questions or need additional information. her at mrsmcvicker@stfparishschool.org with the subject HEARING LOOP or leave a message at

5 LIFT UP YOUR HEART Fourth Meditation - Sin So, we now look at our failure to grasp the magnitude of His creation, and the true purpose of our existence. At times our gratitude becomes lost in the real world, resulting in our sin. This is the subject of our next meditation. Here, St. Francis, emphasizes the awesome gift of His forgiveness. Some of Fr. Burn s thoughts on this meditation follow: We hide our limitations in order to appear strong, attempting to meet secular expectations. When this is our priority we naturally allow pride to mask our view of God. Over time, our conscience becomes numb, sin grows, and remorse for it fades. Through humility, we can honestly return to our original purpose - centering our lives on God. The Eucharist and Reconciliation are primary sources of grace in this effort. Repent, be remorseful, and commit to reform through these sacraments. Do not dismiss your sin, but begin the habit of frequent examination of conscience and confession. In prayer, place yourself at the foot of the cross and see the reality of the Lord s love for you. Possible Fourth Meditation discussion questions: Have you found a quiet place to meditate? When and where? Name a few secular views, which distract us from our purpose. How can I fight this distraction? Can you design or suggest a better purpose in life than to know, love, and serve God? Is there a natural reluctance to talk about the reality of sin? Why is that the case? How do you feel about discussing the last hours of your life, your death? Does our reluctance to discuss these matters suggest anything about our understanding of our true purpose, or even a rejection of it? Did you miss Fr. Bline s introductory presentation of Lift Up Your Heart on Tuesday the 18th? Or would you like a review? You are in luck! Father Bline s introductory talk is now on the parish website: Click on the picture of the book at the bottom of the home page. This is a one-hour, inspiring and thought-provoking presentation from our beloved pastor. Halloween Party!!! The Suburban South Social Program for Adults with Special Needs invites you to a Halloween Party in the gym next Sunday, October 7 th from 3:00-5:00 in the afternoon. The Main Street Singers will be performing. Please dress in costume; prizes will be awarded. Bring along a covered dish to share; chicken, jo-jo s, donuts and soft drinks will be provided. Pumpkins for everyone! A caregiver must accompany all participants. Questions? Give Terri a call at

6 Several ladies from our parish have been involved with the Cluster Prayer Shawl Ministry, which has been active since January They meet on the second Tuesday of each month from 10:00 until noon at Nativity of the Lord Jesus parish. They knit, crochet, or loom shawls and begin and end each meeting with a prayer. Deacon Dennis Smith reads a prayer, blesses and sprinkles holy water over each shawl, then the shawls are ready for distribution. Contrary to what many people think, prayer shawls are not given only to those who are seriously ill or near death. They are given for various occasions: births, baptisms, confirmations, weddings, anniversaries, graduations, recovery from surgery, etc. Those who visit nursing homes are encouraged to take a shawl with them to give to a new resident. A supply of shawls is kept at the parish office. If you know someone who would like to have a shawl, please call the Parish Office at Be sure to give the name of the recipient, so it can be passed on to the Ministry. The Ministry keeps a monthly log of all shawl recipients, so that duplications are not given. October is Respect Life Month. Our parish will once again participate In Life Chain next Sunday, October 7 th, following the 11:00 Mass, for one hour along the parish property on Manchester Road to give prayerful witness for the respect for all life. Please join us as we pray the Rosary for Life together. We also encourage you to join in 40 Days for Life. This is a time from September 26- November 4 to pray and fast for the respect for all human life see Father Bline s column for suggestions.
