Today, the Feast of the Holy Family, situated within the liturgical season of Christmas, is a day on which to remember the importance of family in our life. Fathers and mothers fulfill the vocation given to you by God to give new life and to educate your children in the Catholic Faith. Children have the opportunity to learn from previous generations of parents, grandparents, and godparents. We know the debate that ensues in society where some want to re-define the family and its nature. We find that God s plan for family life is the means for that stability which is important to the family and its members. The family is the basic unit of society, the domestic Church, which is also the building block of the Church. To those who struggle with the demands of family life, thank you for your example. Family dinner is often difficult to schedule these days. The family dinner time becomes an opportunity to share with each other the day s events. More importantly, it teaches that sharing food is more than just eating to satisfy hunger. It is sharing our life with each other. Our praying before and after meals, acknowledges our food and meal time as a gift from God. On behalf of the priests, thank you for the cards, notes, and gifts and goodies given during the Christmas season. Each new year is a time to give thanks for the past and look forward to the new, in hope. May the Lord bless you in this new year with peace and good health. A blessed and happy New Year! 7 6 Manassas, Virginia ALL SAINTS CATHOLIC CHURCH December 30, 2018 The Tree is Trimmed The Knights of Columbus have coordinated the Un-Trima-Tree program made possible by the generosity of the All Saints Parish community. The program requires many hours from over 50 volunteers that make it a success. It is truly an example of a generous parish coming together to help those less fortunate. Several different groups work together to make this a true community project. The parish and school staff, Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent DePaul, scouts, social services and local community groups. Thanks to the generosity of the parish community, this year we collected over 1800 gifts for 873 children. The Knights of Columbus Hall was used to sort and distribute gifts. Volunteers carried bags of gifts from the basement Thursday night and prepared the hall for sorting. On Friday, over 50 volunteers, including many families, sorted the gifts into bags for each family. On Saturday, volunteers were at the Hall from 9:00 am until 8:00 pm, running a distribution center for almost 400 families from Manassas and Manassas Park. Saint Vincent de Paul Society also collects and distributes to additional families. Jeff Vallimont, along with the core team, would like to thank the many volunteers and donors for their generosity. We also want to recognize Fr. Lee and Grand Knight Tom Mehr for their support that makes this charitable activity possible. During the large group events,z our spirits are always lifted when a priest stops by in the middle of their very busy schedule. Fr. Noah was able to make it by a few times and has always left us energized and focused on the true meaning of Christmas. Kathy Miller, President of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, All Saints Conference, informed us that they helped about 75 families with a total of 245 children. Nearly 500 gifts were distributed, providing joy to so many children this Christmas. The St. Vincent de Paul Society, All Saints Conference partners with other churches and community resources in Manassas piecing together very complicated situations for people. We have a dedicated group of Vincentians who work hard to meet emergency needs of our community. Fr. Lee is grateful to all those who spent countless hours to make this happen: the George Brent Council, Knights of Columbus, and the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and certainly our generous parishioners who reached out to those in need. After three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions, and all who heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.
