1 FOURTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST Fruit of the Spirit-Peace July 5 & 6, :00 & 8:15 AS WE GATHER Many things in our lives accentuate the importance of being able to do something by ourselves. We may feel that if we just put in enough of our own effort, we can accomplish anything, including bringing about our own salvation. We may want to pretend that we are self-sufficient; but we are not. Nor do we have to be. Because Jesus has already done the heavy lifting to take the burden of sin from us, we can readily and joyfully carry the light burden with the easy yoke that is living in and for Him. We justly deserve Your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen. Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. 6 PRAYER OF THE CHURCH Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs. We pray for the Church, the community of God s forgiven people, asking that we may be engaged fully in service to God and in ministry to each other. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer and answer it according to Your great goodness. We make our petitions for the sick and all who this day are in need of our prayers, [especially...] that their prayers may be soon answered and that they may be supported by God s people as they further await His direction for their lives. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer and grant our requests according to Your will. With thankfulness for the gift of civic liberty, we ask God s blessing on our nation, its leaders, and all who work for security and a sense of community in our world and in our lives. May we cherish the freedoms we enjoy and do all in our power to maintain the public good, mindful of generations yet to come. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer and guide us into ways of peace.
