All the money received will remain right here in the parish, and will help us to meet our ever increasing bills and financial obligations. We appreciate your generosity to these monthly maintenance collections. WEDDING BANNS III. James McCann & Kate Morgan Once again Shaw s is having a promotional giveaway. If you shop at Shaw s and are not going to use the stamps to acquire Luminarc containers for yourself, please bring them to church so that we can use them to help others. This time we will be supporting three local charities: Friends of the Unborn, which assists young women deal with crisis pregnancies; Pilgrims Hope, a shelter that helps families dealing with abusive situations transition back into society; And, our own Fresh Start Ministry, which helps families transition from a shelter to new living arrangements. As before, there will be a box in each church to collect the stamps. Thank you again for your generosity! ANNOUNCING THE ORDINATION OF CHRISTOPHER BOYLE TO THE TRANSITIONAL DIACONATE ANNOUNCING THE ORDINATION OF JIM THOMPSON TO THE PERMANENT DIACONATE We are pleased to announce that our seminarian, Christopher Boyle, was ordained to the Transitional Diaconate on Thursday, September 27 at the Papal Basilica of Saint Peter in Vatican City. Deacon Chris was ordained along with 39 of his fellow classmates from the Pontifical North American College in Rome. Deacon Chris was vested by Father Chris, who attended the ordination along with several other Holy Mothers Collaborative staff members. Please keep Deacon Chris in your prayers as he continues his journey toward ordination to the priesthood this coming May. We are pleased to announce that HMC parishioner Jim Thompson was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate on Saturday, September 29 at Holy Name Parish in West Roxbury. Deacon Jim has been assigned to serve here at the Holy Mothers Collaborative. We are so blessed that he has answered the call to serve God s Church. ALTAR SERVER TRAINING Deacon John Murray will provide Altar Server training for students in Grades 4 to 12 on three consecutive Tuesday afternoons from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 2 (St. Mary s) Tuesday, October 9 (St. Helen s) Tuesday, October 16 (St. Mary s) Participation in all three training sessions is necessary in order to be fully prepared. We ask the parents help in reinforcing that serving at the altar is both a privilege and a responsibility. Those interested must have a strong commitment to learning the ministry and to carrying out the ministry. Servers who were recently trained are welcome and encouraged to come for a refresher. SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY Throughout the year, the Saint Vincent de Paul Society assists families in our collaborative who are going through a difficult time. Saint Vincent de Paul is currently running very low on grocery gift cards for those in need. We gratefully accept donations of grocery gift cards (such as Stop & Shop or Shaw s) or money. These donations should be marked Saint Vincent de Paul and can be brought to the collaborative offices or put in the offertory basket. Donations of grocery gift cards (Shaw s, Stop & Shop, etc.) to help our neighbors in need this upcoming holiday season would be greatly appreciated! FATIMA CANDLELIGHT VIGIL Saturday, October 13 from 7 to 8 p.m. Portiuncula Chapel at Cardinal Cushing Centers Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and a brief talk by Deacon Bob on the monthly Apparition of Fatima. Fatima devotions are held on the 13th of every month from May through October at the Portiuncula Chapel at the Cardinal Cushing Center, Route 53, Hanover. The service is hosted by the Saint Mary of the Portiuncula Order of Franciscan Seculars. All are most welcome to come and share in the blessings of this special devotion. FRESH START MINISTRY FALL UPDATE The Fresh Start Ministry has helped TEN families transition from shelter living so far this year! Updated wish lists can be found in/near the donation bins at both churches. Donations of any wish list items are welcomed, though the current high demand items are listed below. High Need Items: -Mattress Protectors (crib, twin, full, & queen size) -Shower curtains, curtain rings, bath mats -Mixing bowl sets, bakeware (cookie sheets, cake tins, etc.) -Bedside lamps, bedside alarm clocks (electric) -Kitchen utensils, measuring cups, spatulas, whisks, etc. -Tupperware (food storage containers) -Children s unbreakable plates, bowls, cups Remember, all donated items must be new and should be items from the wish list. This Week in the Gospel We are reminded of how important children are to Jesus. While the disciples try to keep the children away and not bother Jesus, He said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth; anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them. Mark 10:13-16 The Kingdom of God is offered to each of us. The question is whether we will accept it or not. If we are to receive it, Jesus tells us that we must do so like a little child. Little children receive things humbly and in faith from the people who love them. They do not try to earn or deserve the thing offered. They simply receive it. Jesus holds up these little children as an example to us.
