The items covered were: Altar, Nave, Sanctuary, Sacristy, Tabernacle, Relics, Stations of the Cross, Ambo, Ambre, the Priests' Dress, Sedilia, top of altar(mensa), bottom of altar (boot). Please see inserted document for explanations of each. He also covered some etiquette points: Parking Lot - Speed limit thru parking lot is 8 mph. Please slow down when driving thru parking lot and be aware of children and adults. Communion - proper way to receive Communion - when receiving in the hand, hold hands up and out at chest level, fingers extended. If receiving on the tongue - hold head back, tongue out. Do not lick or bite the person giving you Communion. The reason for the Tabernacle - it holds the consecrated hosts for the Sick, Adoration and Communion Services. - When the Tabernacle is open, DO NOT SIT kneeling is preferred. Be quiet Before and After Mass in the Nave. If conversation needs to be held, please use the Gathering Area. Children - if a child is crying or having a crying fit, please take them out into the Gathering Area until they calm down and you are able to return to the Nave. If your child needs food, please provide snacks that do not leave crumbs. Please clean your area after Mass. The Angels Haven and Nursery are also available for your use. Some older altars have Relics inside the Altar on a stone containing bone fragments of a past Saint. The Altar at Good Shepherd has a Relic from the Church of the Holy Sepulchre - an Altar cloth that was used on the Altar. "TIMELY TOPICS Marriage Annulments: What Are They & How To Begin the Process - The Church offers tender care for those who have divorced through the Marriage Tribunal, a diocesan office that trains advocates located in local parishes to assist those who wish to obtain a declaration of nullity for previous marriages. Often there has been misinformation or misunderstanding concerning the purpose of this ministry that has been designed to assist in the healing process after divorce and permit remarriage in the Church. The E-Team is sponsoring a "Timely Topic" session on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 7-8pm in the Gathering Area, which will provide an opportunity to ask questions of local advocates. If you know a Catholic who has divorced and remarried outside the Church, please invite that person and her/his spouse to this gathering where they will be warmly welcomed and their questions/concerns answered. Information on starting the process will also be given. Light refreshments will be served and child care if needed. Please be mindful of work equipment and trenches on the Church grounds. This is due to Public Works Commission laying a new sewer line. Etiquette Corner Thank you for your presence here at Good Shepherd. In order to make our weekly celebrations more conducive to prayer, to preserve the sacredness of our liturgies and to ensure the comfort of all those who are gathered, the following are some gentle reminders of simple church etiquette. Arriving on Time: We ask that you make every attempt to be on time (even early) to Mass. Remember to allow yourself enough time for parking and extra time if you need to drop off your children in the nursery. Due to circumstances out of our control, we understand that there are times tardiness cannot be avoided. If Mass has begun, please enter through the side doors. Please wait for an usher to assist you since we do not seat people during particular moments of the liturgy, such as during the readings or the prayers. Remember that it is better to be present, even if late, than it is to be absent from the assembly. An alternative would be to wait until the next Mass. Leaving Before the Final Blessing: Leaving church before the dismissal ignores another important part of the Liturgy. At the dismissal, we celebrate our commission as sent forth by Jesus Christ himself. In that, Jesus last words to his disciples were Therefore, go out and make disciples of all nations. And behold, I am with you until the end of the age. Matt 28: Our liturgy has a beginning ( In the name of the Father ) and an end ("Let us go in peace to love and serve the Lord "). To leave immediately after Communion is to treat church like a fast food restaurant where we come and go as we please. We live in a fast-paced world where we seem to be hurrying from place to place. But in God's presence, we need to make every attempt to fight this pressure to move on to the next thing on the day's agenda. Eat and run at McDonald's - but stay in church and thank God for his precious gifts. Proper Attire: Remember the time when people put on their "Sunday best" to go to church? In fact, dress clothes were often referred to as Sunday clothes in some parts of the country. Too often, dress in church has become very casual. In all areas of our lives, we should offer Christ our best, and the same is true of our dress. We should offer Christ our Sunday best". We should dress modestly, not in a flashy way that would bring attention to ourselves. Our dress should always be becoming of a Christian - especially at church. Gum Chewing and Food Consumption: Please keep in mind that there should not be any gum chewing or the eating of food during Mass. We are to fast one hour before Communion to include chewing gum. For little ones, if food is necessary please be sure your area is cleaned up after Mass to help us keep our Church clean and free of insects. Angels Haven: We are blessed to have an Angels Haven where parents and children can experience our Mass in a relaxed manner. This special area provides parents with an opportunity to explain the Mass to their children and not worry about disrupting others during their prayers. Safety: Also for the safety of our children, parishioners, and guests the speed limit for our parking lot is 10mph.

We hope they will continue to support the Parish Family, deepen our Catholic Faith and continue the mission of Evangelization in our Community. Please feel free to use the resources for yourselves, families and friends. News from the Diocese..
