2 GO, GO JONAH! Wanted: Kids ages 5 to 13 years old to perform in the summer musical: Go, Go Jonah! We need kids to: act, sing, make props, and work as tech. and stage crew. Rehearsals will focus on learning the musical, but will also include; games, snacks, and Bible studies focusing on the Book of Jonah. Rehearsals will be at St. Paul the Apostle Church. This is a three week program. Monday Friday 9 am noon July 30 th August 3 rd August 8 th August 10 th August 13 th August 17 th Performances will be: Saturday, August 18 th 6 pm at St. Paul the Apostle Sunday, August 19 th 2 pm at St. Joseph Church The cost is $15 per child. Registration forms and additional information can be found at the back of the church or at the parish office. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: We need additional people to help with snacks, prop making, Tech crew, publicity, and crowd control. We would especially need help on July 30 th, the first day of the program. Older youth are encouraged to volunteer. If you have any last minute raffle baskets to donate or prizes for the kids games, please get them to the office by August 10 th. If you are not receiving our monthly newsletter, you are probably not officially registered. It's easy to join, just call the parish office, Religious Education Announcements Religious Education orientation and FIRST CLASS is Sunday August 27 th. A parent or guardian must be present to pick up Religious Education material and receive more information about program requirements for the year. Final payments for retreat, activity fee, and registration can be made at orientation. Again, it is mandatory that a parent or guardian for all registered Religious Education students attend orientation. Students will have class on August 27 th. Thank you for your cooperation in making sure all things run smoothly. Mandatory Confirmation Parent meeting: Sunday October 1 st, 9:15 am in the Gathering Area. Parents only please! Hunger Task Force Food Sort Twenty-five volunteers (minimum) are needed on Saturday, August 18 th from 9 am to noon at Hunger Task Force s south warehouse located at 300 E. College Ave. (old 440 th Air Force Base), Milwaukee. A stock box is a box of healthy foods that Hunger Task Force delivers to low-income seniors free of charge. Families are encouraged to participate together. Volunteers will be on their feet for the entire 3 hour shift. Please wear closed toed shoes and clothes that can get dirty. Bring a water bottle and snack bar for energy. Volunteers must be 12 years or older. An adult chaperone must accompany anyone between years old. 4 Why Do We Do That? What is the difference between mortal and venial sin? Sin is a deliberate thought, word, action, or omission contrary to God's law. Since the beginnings of the Church, sin has been distinguished by its gravity. "Grave matter" is traditionally defined by the Ten Commandments. If a person commits a grave sin with full knowledge of the action's evil and with the complete consent of their will, this is a mortal sin. The effects of mortal sin are grave -- the loss of sanctifying grace, which can be restored by a fresh outpouring of God's mercy in the sacrament of Reconciliation. Venial sin is a sin which does not fit one or more of the mortal sin conditions (for example, a less serious matter still freely chosen or grave matter committed while under force or ignorance of God's law). The effects of venial sin -- while still damaging to the human heart and human society -- are less severe. Even so, smaller sins build habits, which can obstruct our growth in virtue. When we are serious about following Jesus, we should do our best to avoid all sin, whether large or small! 4a St. Louis Catholic Church
