It was a great success with a steady stream of interested visitors, and the three gardens showing different types of challenges and achievements, in different stages of development. Some of the funds raised will go towards excursions to other gardens. Thanks again for your efforts, which were much appreciated. Adrian

2 They say that wisteria makes an excellent bonsai plant and these photos make one want to try it. Watercolour painting with Barbara Press is a popular class which has a waiting list. Meantime, the first and third Wednesdays, 9.30 to 12.00, at the Neighbourhood House in Darley, are the times to see it in action for information. There will be an exhibition of student work at the Library Until 28 th November Painting for fun is an exploratory class run by Laurel Jansen which will take off in It will happen at the Neighbourhood House in Darley on the second and fourth Wednesdays from pm. 3 Mahjong We have been playing Mahjong on Wednesday afternoons at the Library, from 1.00 to 3.00, on the first and third Wednesdays of the month. As an interesting change we have been thinking of joining with the Melton U3A Mahjong Group on Tuesdays and making use of a larger group to extend our range and understanding. This is undecided as yet, and we would welcome input from anyone interested. For more information ring Adrian, The First Thursday Book Club is reading Enigma, the story of breaking the enemy code during the second World War. 1 st Thursday of the month at Lerderderg Library for book discussion, and other Thursdays at Baby Black Café for books and chat. Leader Shirley Neylon Monday Book Club nd Monday of the month at Lerderderg Library. Ring for information. Leaders Davina and Joy This month s book for discussion was the The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion.The author wrote it as a screenplay, but later adapted it to novel form. Written from the perspective of a university professor, Don, who clearly exhibits traits of Asperger s Syndrome, the novel traces in minute detail Don s life routine and his carefully-laid plans to finally identify his life partner. The narrative is full of warmth and good humour as the reader experiences with Don the unsettling, yet surprisingly happy realisation that his plans are going the way of many a well-laid plan. There were some mixed reactions to the book amongst the book group members, some not particularly enjoying the topic, with others finding many laugh out loud moments. However, as always, the topic stimulated some very interesting discussion on Autism Spectrum Disorder and the difficult issues surrounding it.

4 Genealogy This class does its own thing in its own way. Help is available from Fran on Think of life as an ocean whether calm, or rough, or endless, or playful, or fearsome, in the end it is beautiful and totally unforgettable. On how many other planets could we have gazed in awe at such a phenomenon. On Saturday 14 th November President Adrian opened an exhibition by the U3A Watercolour Class, lead by Barbara Press. Many thanks to the Library for making space, and many thanks also to Mazi for producing a feast of refreshments. 5 U3A Quilting Group This wonderful group have cracked the magic quilts altogether delivered to children in need, in Well done, Quilters!! Gadgets & gizmos This is a very flexible class and the leader, Ross, is very patient and understanding. Exhibition opening Currently the class is mostly about smart phones, and is usually never larger than five o or six people, so you can get individual attention to any problems. Ring Ross on

6 A Christmas cake for vegans, vegetarians and diabetics, with thanks to Helen Brown MOIST FRUIT CAKE 1 kilo dried fruit (any mix) 2 cups of pureed fruit 2 cups of SR flour (gluten free or otherwise). Wholemeal SR flour is fine. Half teaspoon ground cinnamon Half teaspoon ground allspice Mix all ingredients together and bake in a greased and lined 23 cm round tin for 2 hrs in a slow oven. Fan forced 110c. Allow to cool in tin. From Helen Brown who kindly brought a sample. The Watercolour painting group s EXHIBITION in the Lerderderg Library runs until 29th November, and can be seen during regular library hours. CHRISTMAS IS COMING We have made a booking for a Christmas get together. This will be at pm on Friday 27th November at Back to Bacchus restaurant, Main street Bacchus Marsh. We haven't organised a set menu and will be ordering from their normal menu. Their prices are very reasonable and a good feed can be had for less than $20. If you would like to join us, and I hope you will, could you please let Helen Brown know on by Monday 23rd of November. Tai Chi is a gentle exercise that uses every muscle in the body, or so they say. Next year we hope to have a class running, so if you are interested ring Adrian and find out all about it. The group has been working hard towards this exhibition and would appreciate your having a look while it s up. At a certain age you can understand why Peter Pan didn t want to grow up.

7 SpeakEasy Players Apple FM tell us that the three recorded works Speakeasy have submitted to them are of broadcast standard. Wow! This is our own group of players. A recent afternoon of verse reading was a change of pace for our performers, and will give added depth and flexibility to their skills. If we have any playwrights, poets, or monologue writers working locally, perhaps we can hope for tryouts of their work. Obviously SpeakEasy are a very interesting group, with occasional nice surprises for us. SpeakEasy Players normally meet Friday , 2 nd and 4 th Fridays of the month at Holy Trinity Church Hall. Due to Christmas functions in the hall, the next meetings will be on on 4 th and 11 th of December Leader David Leach Gardening Group has always been held on Mondays, but it has been decided now to change it to Wednesdays to enable more people to participate. It is a pleasant and practical study group of like minded people and includes excursions, shared experience, and plants to swap and sample. Members range from those with a passion for growing gardens to those with only a curiosity as to how it is done. This year saw three Open Gardens on show to the public, and next year it is hoped to enlarge this activity for the good of Bacchus Marsh and environs. Ring Mazi on for more information.

9 The Gardening Club is planning has some special excursions next year. One will be a look at the Native Gardens in Melton, which are gaining a lot of attention from gardeners. You should indicate your interest early. This trip will be open to interested people as well as the Garden Group. Ring Mazi Another excursion next year will hopefully be to Allowyn Gardens, where you can see retired racehorses taking it easy. We are told that if we go in early October we will see the wisteria tunnel, which is a sight to behold. There is much else to see of course, at all times of the year. Ring Mazi if interested. Don t forget that a small group of members will be going to see Fiddler on the Roof at the Princess Theatre in early January. It runs from 29 th December for six weeks only, and Anthony Warlow plays Tevye the Milkman. Matinee tickets are Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon at 1.00 pm Seniors $71 travel is by train. Ring Jackie to book, If you haven t seen the show this is your chance. The Garden Group will probably meet on Wednesdays in 2016, which will make it easier for a lot of people to participate.
